If you are run/walking in an attempt to get your heart rate down (i.e., it's difficult for you to run in Zone 2 even at a perceived easy effort pace, how long should your run/walk workouts be? Should they be on the rather short side, especially because running at Zone 2 when you are starting off will take a lot longer to complete a workout (e.g. 4-6 miles), or could you do longer run/walk segments (e.g. 8 miles+) in order to improve Zone 2 fitness and pace? Does doing longer Zone 2 run/walk workouts defeat the purpose or even hurt your efforts of bringing your heart rate down? For my Zone 2 workouts, I slow down to a walk whenever I exceed Zone 2 (for me it's past 153 beats per minute, and I exceed Zone 2 rather quickly). I return to a run when I'm at least 10 beats per minute lower than the maximum for Zone 2 (e.g. I don't start running again till I'm back down to 140 beats per minute or less).
Another question is if run/walking can also hurt your training by hurting your cadence (e.g. if run/walking too often could break your cadence habits and lower it inadvertently).
Any input regarding this would be much appreciated! Thanks so much!
Happy Sunday!

I always make pasta the night before. Going grocery shopping and wondering what the safest protein and veggie combo is to add to my sauce? Sometimes I do Tofurkey chicken and peppers or mushrooms or beyond meatballs or sausage. Wondering what people think is the best protein and best veggie to add that’s least likely to cause problems for race day. Thanks !

I've had a break of around 4 months not running. I was ru ning around 12-15k before that and was doing up to half marathon distances last summer.
I live in the UK, in a city for context and managed to run more last winter. I'm a nurse and do on average 15-20000 steps a day in a busy mental health ward.
I stopped around my birthday in December. I went on holiday for a few days, got back and immediately got covid. I was pretty wiped out and exhausted for about a month after. I was then on night shifts, so fitted in a couple of runs and then was going to put a plan in place to run regular. Then I got diarrhoea and vomiting. I've also had life things going on personally.
Running is good for my mental health and I have only done a few short runs (around 4k) the past few months. I was wondering if anyone had any advice to give myself a kick back into it?
I just got a car and I'm bored of my local area (lots of stop-starting due to traffic lights and cars), so going to try some trails I think.
Thank you.
