Can I access LMS overseas with/without VPN?

I am going on holiday during the first few weeks of summer school and am planning to do FNSC2200 if it’s fully online since there are no units that begin from December 27. I heard the workload for this unit is pretty light minus the lectures I have to watch. I need the 6 points because I only did 3 units this semester. Can I access LMS in Japan with or without a VPN? Surely I don’t need VPN to access it, as long as I’m connected to a stable Wifi connection, but I’m asking to make sure.

Can i enrol in a second major at any point?

I'm currently undertaking a bachelor of Psychology, with a major in psychology. To date, i've completed the core units for both Psychology [MJD-PSYDM] and Criminology [MJD-CRIMN], but i'm not enrolled in the crim major.

I'm undecided if i want to pursue the major in criminology, so i just took one core unit and the other core was already part of the psych major. If next year i decide to continue taking required crim units, and take all the core units for it, can i enrol in the crim major at any time before i graduate and still get the qualification?

Career Changers - Juris Doctor

Any career changers here who graduated with a different undergraduate degree, worked for a number of years then gone back to UWA for JD?

What did you choose to do after graduating with JD? Is it possible to open your own practice right after JD or would you need to be employed as a lawyer for a number of years first?

Considering all my options right now coming out of a career break. Background is Commerce > Accounting.

Considering JD again, because it’s been on my mind for a long time but always got distracted away from from it. Also, having done Commerce and then worked in accounting, the aspects of the degree itself and working life that I found most interesting were all the legal aspects. So I think I will enjoy it!!

If youve done JD at UWA at any point at all, I’d love to hear of your experience and post-JD work life! :)

Any tips would be great too ;)

Anyone been a mentor in the UniMentor program? Would you recommend the experience? And how much time did you have to commit to it? Thanks!

Academic progress Probation- Good standing

So I was procrastinating and got curious about something.

I was on probation for this semester, just checked student connect unit results out of boredom and it shows my academic progress is now on Good standing.

I know I'll get my actual progression results once exam marks are released but I was just curious about how reliable this is. I'm assuming it's based off unit results without exam marks, is that accurate?

Seeking Advice on Accommodation Options for UWA Exchange Program

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to study as an exchange student at UWA starting in the spring of 2025, and I recently found out that my application for a dormitory has been placed on the waitlist. I’m trying to decide whether I should go ahead and book student accommodation in the city or consider a homestay option.

I would prefer to stay in the dormitory due to the meal provisions and the potential for making friends easily. Additionally, I have already paid the application fee, which makes me want to hold out for the dormitory. However, I’m also worried that the other housing options might fill up quickly.

Does anyone have advice on whether I should secure alternative accommodations now, or is it better to wait for a possible opening in the dormitory? Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Philosophy politics and economics, can I get in with a 87-88 atar and what is the course like?

Apparantly it’s 90 atar and the double degree with commerce or arts is 92. Do you think the university will be lenient this year considering international students have been cut down?

BIOC1001 exam

Hi! Did anyone take the biochemistry exam yesterday (02.11.24)? What do you think about it? Was it hard? Personally, I think it was much more difficult than the trial exam that was assigned to us for preparation. Is it just me or did a couple of questions from MCQ contain information that was not in the lecture presentations? Just would like to hear some opinions.

Internal transfer to juris doctor

Hey guys,

I don't know if my ATAR will be high enough to get into the juris doctor program
I've heard that you can transfer from another undergraduate course into the bachelor of law and then juris doctor
Has anyone done a transfer like this before? and if so can you please let me know whether this is possible and what are the prerequisite required to complete the internal transfer.

Thank you

How to study for ABHB1102

There’s just so much information and it’s just so difficult to memorise. How do I even memorise things? I can remember stuff but after a while I just forget everything 😭

Snoring in the Library??

I have no problem with people sleeping in the library but if you know you have a penchant for snoring, please please, for the love of humanity (and specifically students who are fighting inner demons to get some last-minute study done), find a place where there is no one or just go home???

Yes I did wear earmuffs AND those free orange ear plugs AND I could still hear you!!!

UWA SOCIAL LIFE IS DEAD?

I’ve been on multiple campuses such as Curtin and is it just me or does UWA have no proper social opportunities. Curtin library especially level 5 seems to be a mix of all different groups of people all interacting but at UWA I don’t really see that sort of stuff, everyone’s just doing their own thing.

Can someone give me tips on the best places to socialise and insight on why UWA is like this.

ANHB1102 students from recent years (like, 2020 onwards), am I doing alright?

I'm currently sitting at a weighted 93.75% (ADHD did its thang and I lost 1.5% from the online quizzes). From this, I need a 71% or above on my final to get a HD.

I got 80% on the 2016 MCQs and 82.5% on the 2017 MCQs. I did them closed book, but I didn't do them timed (I took a few breaks which I probably shouldn't be doing since I don't have special conditions for my ADHD yet and won't have an opportunity to stop and refocus during the actual exam), and I'm concerned that the multi choice in recent years has been markedly harder than back then.

People who've done the unit in more recent years, y'all think imma get that HD, or is further cramming warranted? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I have a lot of academic anxiety and I'm sort of just looking for reassurance (or advice, if I do actually need to be worried).

Thank yas, preemptively 😂

What the fuck was that mech and machines exam

I really liked the part where they used a question they refused to give us the answer to in the course.

can one do math specialist without math methods?

Can Math Specialist be done without Math Methods? I've completed A Level Math, which fulfills the Math Methods prerequisite for my major, but some units require Math Specialist. I'm considering taking it at university, but I'm unclear about the differences, especially since I didn't do well in A Level. I only passed to meet the Math Methods requirement.

Future student, might fail a prerequisite, can I still get in?

Hello, so I’m in year 12 and methods is a prerequisite for the major I’d like to do. I might fail the wace - which could leave me on a failing grade for methods. Would I still be able to do the major I want? Would I just have to take a make up course or something? Thanks

Pass/Fail Exams

Hypothetically what happens if a huge number of students fail a fail component exam? Do they become lenient?

Computer science labs

I really struggle with face-to-face components of study due to anxiety so I was wondering whether the labs for computer science are quite chill/quiet? If not is there any other science units that don’t require much face-to-face? I’m majoring in biochem but that’s got a lot of lab time and I need other subjects that I don’t need to come in for much. I don’t mind if the subject’s difficult it’s just the face-to-face component that I struggle with the most. Thanks

EDIT: Thanks for your replies! I’ve been getting a lot of treatment for the past 4 years and am gradually building up to things but I can’t handle too many face-to-face intense subjects at once. I’ve got an UAAP and my major coordinator is trying to help but I’m still struggling.

About to Transfer (BCom to BArts), having a hard time picking a major

Hey y'all,

On probation rn, and I am hoping to transfer from BCom (I can't STAT1520 worth a damn) to BArts.
Right now I am choosing to keep the Business Law major from BCom (I love it), but I am at a fork. What major do I pick for BArts?

Currently, I have these options on the table,
Mj. in Law and Society: Law-Law makes the most sense, but that seems like hell, and I doubt I'll ever reach JD after graduation. Plus, I don't think I'm capable of being a lawyer.
Mj. in History: History and law seem like strange combinations, but they grew out of my passion for History since high school, and I regret not picking them up when I started university.
Mj in German Studies: German-Law is a wild combo for me. I love learning languages, to a weird degree. But I do not see anything coming out of this. My broke ass cannot fathom to be living in Germany any time this lifetime.
(I'd also like to put in Political Science and Int'l Relations here just in case, I don't know the vibe of this one)

Does anyone have any suggestions? I would love to hear from students from these specific majors and their takes on it too. Just leave your opinion on this honestly. Cheers!

Spotify student plan expiry

Should be studying for exams but I am more worried that I will no longer be able to use my Spotify Student plan. The plan ends on the 18th of November and my student verification expires on the 13th of November.

I was wondering if I would be able to cancel my plan on say, the 11th, then buying the Student plan again right after, so that I would basically get an extra month of Premium at the student price. Is this possible?

Going on Exchange UWA

Thinking of going exchange was wondering if any students could share their experience and the schools they went to and if willing to share the cost of the overall experience.

Right now all I know is that I want to go somewhere in Europe or United States.

Ps, please include WAMs

Will I lose my early offer if I don't pass my pre reqs?

I'm currently in year 12 and I got an early offer saying I need to achieve a final atar and fulfilling the course requirement. My atar has taken a lot of hits recently and idk if I'm gonna pass my pre reqs. I just wanted to know if this will get my offer taken away. Thank you :)
