Been a fan for a while, but I don't immediately listen to their stuff (unlike bands I'm obsessed with like between the buried and me, iron maiden etc.)
But holy hell, I am currently listenung to their newest album and... Wow.... Legion is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. When I first heard it, I got goosebumps. The melody in dans vocals are unlike Anything I've ever heard . Concealing fate was amazing, so was luminary(I believe that was the album name)
But Ive never heard anything more raw than in legion. Near the end when he goes from growling, to dry, to falsetto. It genuinely inflicts this feeling of frustration and desperation to me.
Similar to April of echoes, but on a whole different level.
I wish him and ashe would work together. They are both amazing, altered stated is one of my favorites.
But it's like comparing Paul dianno to Bruce Dickinson (iron maiden) Both did their jobs perfectly, but Bruce fit maiden more than Paul.
I feel the same way with Dan.
It's been a long time that I've had goosebumps all over my body and on the verge of tears hearing Dan scream out in frustration... Idk guys, there is something so special about his voice and diversity that really tugs my heart strings.... Not only is the music amazing itself, but the way they mix their songs is super unique. The drums are usually in your face, but a moment later, my whole attention is on the vocals.
God damn, what an amazing band.
What do you think the meaning of the lines “To dream of flowing locks untwisted and stormy, and auburn eyes glistening as you weep”
I know that line is actually from a game, but what is the deeper meaning of that section?
I don't know if this is just me but I love every TesseracT's album from start to finish (Polaris being my favorite) but every time I try to listen to "One", the mix & Dan's vocal performance are so jarringly different (not at all saying his performance is bad btw) than the rest of their work for me to really get into it. I really like a lot of the song writing in that album and the portal version of "Concealing Fate" is so good. I really do hope they remaster "One" one day. *Edit: "Remaster" is probably not best word to use but maybe remixed*
Bit of short back story, i’m not an emotional person and I’ve never been the type to get emotional or even cry because of music. I’ve got nothing bad going on in my life at the moment or anything but when I was driving the other day the song War of Being was playing and on the final part of the song I have no idea what it was but the music and vocals just overwhelmed me and actually left me in tears, listened to this song a million times before so was very out of nowhere, anyone else had this same experience?
curious sorry if this has been posted already or not published yet
Themes, styles, instruments, lyrics, etc. Whatever comes to mind.
I personally am quite happy with the direction of War of Being, so I'm hoping for more of that (especially the proggier long songs) + more jazzy passages. I can totally imagine a song that has chuggy riffs, juicy bass, screams and thrn smoothly shifts into a jazzy part with piano and maybe even saxophone before returning to guitars and clean singing.
I love Tesseract. I have listened to every album cover-to-cover.
I love War of Being. It's my 2023 AOTY.
I've had it on repeat all year.
But, I don't like the first 3 songs.
Legion -> Sacrifice is perfection. But Natural Disaster, Echoes and The Grey don't seem to fit.
What am I missing here ?
Heheh finally edited the other cover I recorded in the studios of my high school. Hope you guys enjoy it 😌
Recently discovered the song but it's not on Spotify. Is it something temporary or is the song something exclusive?
This was a headline show at the Luton SU (now demolished) in November 2009. The first time I'd seen them after listening to the demo. The next show was with Monuments and Chimp Spanner in 2010 for Basick Records' 5th Birthday Party. An amazing first two shows.
I was thinking how fucking cool it would be to have Courtney Leplante (Spiritbox) or even Ashe O'Hara(Altered State) come in and sing with Dan for a song or two. Listening to The Mara Effect by Spiritbox convinced be she'd be amazing in a Tesseract song.
Came across this review on Amazon for a WoB vinyl, I think he’s passionate about not liking the “growling”…
Then proceeds to list multiple other prog bands that scream/growl and says Tesseract should be more like them
Ok buddy
War of Being is hands down the best album i’ve ever listened to by any band i’ve ever heard, don’t care what anyone says. Every song is an absolute masterpiece, I was in awe when I saw them live in london this year. Nobody can change my mind
Found this at great escape; another lady grabbed one for her hubby and said one was left!
A while ago I shared my vocal cover of Seven Names, what I thought at the time that it was one of tesseract's most difficult songs to sing... Oh, how did Dan fool me, he upped his game and so I had to. It's far from perfect, but I had a limited time to use the recording studio for recording this song and soon I will post my cover of War Of Being.
This album is close to altered state to being my favourite and I'm so exited to try and cover all the songs of this record. The next cover may be either Natural Disaster or Burden.
I saw another discussion on here closer to when the album came out. Daniel Tompkins has publicly stated at Meet and Greets that he's a massive Witcher fan, and he references the lyrics to "The Wolven Storm" by Priscilla, from Witcher 3.
Wolven Storm-
To dream of raven locks, entwisted, stormy
Violet eyes Glistening as you weep
War of Being-
To dream of flowing locks untwisted and stormy
And auburn eyes glistening as you weep
It's only 2 lines, so I personally feel it's just a nod to something Dan enjoys, but other people seemed to feel very differently about it, with most stating they considered it plagiarism. I think the fact that he was candid about the reference and openly a Witcher 3 fan makes it more or less fine.
Here's a link to a video of it! Now all they need to do is play Exile in full :')
Just curious if the songs are connected in some way, telling a story, the way the War of Being and Concealing Fate do.
New listener here. I always thought the lead singer was female, but looking at the band members, I don't find any female member.
I did feel like at times it's probably a male singer but then I felt they were two different singers. Am I just tripping? This is on the albums One and Perspective.
Just announced!
Thought I’d try my hand at this. What do you guys think?
Today, I received the 4LP x 2CD box set of Altered State after a long overdue purchase.
First off, the packaging is absolute beautiful and serves this masterpiece of an album the luxury that it well deserves.
When I was viewing the artwork and gushing over the beauty of the packaging, I noticed in the credits that the artwork derived from Ion Lucin’s “Spherikal”. Immediately, I looked this up and found the video. It’s a super creative short film surrounding the artistic properties of a sphere, and as a huge fan of this album and the artwork I thought this was the coolest thing ever so I wanted to share! After all these years I had no clue of this!
An additional fun fact I learned within the comments of that video: The song that Ion Lucin uses in “Spherikal” comes off of an album on bandcamp titled “Altered States” which appears to be an ongoing set of volumes. I thought this was super cool!
Anyways, hope some people find this as neat as I did! Enjoy :)
Just got my new Ibanez BTB806MS in the mail today! This thing is quite literally a Dingwall killer, and it sounds amazing through Neural DSP Parallax on this preset I made!
