All tattoos must be by a professional unless you're asking how to cover up a past mistake, scratching/unprofessional tattoos aren't welcome here.

Post requirements

All posts must include commentary/discussion, this is not only a place to share pictures. If you just want to share your ink, check out r/tattoo and r/tattoos.

Required:

  • The artist and their shop name (if you found the image online, please do an image search to find the artist.)
  • Explain the idea behind the design
  • Whether or not you're happy with it (not required if you're asking advice for a future tattoo)

More suggestions for info you can add:

  • Any technical difficulties that came into play when getting / giving it
  • The tattoo styles / artistic currents / cultural elements / personal experiences that influenced it
  • Concept sketches, etc.

If your post doesn't contain the above information, it'll be removed and you'll be asked to revise your post.

Rules

1. Stay civil and keep comments about the tattoo(s).

  • Unnecessarily rude comments will be removed and possibly earn you a ban. This includes unhelpful comments when someone asks what a tattoo style is called.
  • ANY comments made on personal appearance or user's body will lead to a permanent ban.

2. Don't only add pictures, add some commentary.

  • Please see the posting requirements listed above.

3. No price discussions.

  • All artists charge differently, and trying to shop for cheap tattoos is how you'll end up with bad ones. Find a local artist and ask for a consultation.

4. Don't encourage scratching or unprofessional work.

  • This sub is for professional work only. The only loophole to this is if you're asking for coverup ideas.

5. Credit the artist.

  • You must add your artist's info into your post or it'll be removed, and you'll be asked to repost with the proper information. Please see the posting requirements listed above.

6. Don't claim other people's photos/work as your own.

  • If you steal a post for free karma or try claiming someone else's art is yours, you'll be permanently banned.

7. Your account needs to be 20 days old with at least 20 combined karma.

  • To prevent bots and spam, we have age requirements. Messages asking to bypass this rule will be ignored.

8. Don't spam. No promotions/advertising other than artist's info.

  • Don't spam posts or comments.
  • Artist social media can be shared but no advertising or promotion. No memes, contests, surveys, giveaways, sales, money-raising events, or any kind of porn ads.

9. NSFW must be tagged, including scars. No fresh blood. No medical questions.

  • Tag appropriate NSFW and content warning- Nudity, scars, and tattoos containing gore.
  • No fresh blood, this includes blood caught under bandages like SecondSkin.
  • Medical questions need to be asked in r/tattooadvice.

10. No asking for art or clients, or offering to draw tattoos.

  • This isn't a sub to hire artists or try to get free art. Research local artists and hire them, it's part of their job to help you with the design.
  • This also isn't a sub to find clients.
  • Posts asking for art or offering to draw for people will be removed. If you really must get a sketch of your idea, check out r/DrawMyTattoo.

What’s your first reaction to fixing this?

I got this about 12 years ago as my first tattoo. It’s fairly sentimental (three little birds song by Bob Marley) but man these lines don’t look good lol. I don’t want to cover but I’m willing to enhance. What’s your first idea?

Looking to add to my Nike statue

I’m looking to wrap around my forearm. Interested in some ideas you might have. I got this piece after besting a 12 year eating disorder. (BED and Bulimia). The additions don’t need to have the meaning of this one. I like darker, melancholy, maybe even morbid ideas. Curious on your thoughts!

Thank you in advance!

Dad commissioned a tattoo for his wife

He said "anatomically correct geometric emerald heart" and left me to it. I think it might be too geometric so im prepared to make it simpler.

This is a long shot

So I got this many many years ago from someone that just had a tattoo gun, it’s my worst tattoo by far, and it’s big, you might not be able to tell from the photo but I’m a big bloke with big arms.

Is there anything that can be done to salvage this? The rest of me is covered with either Viking work or a skull gothic vibe. Ideally I don’t want to actually get rid of it, just rework it into a statement piece so I can include my newborn son’s details.

I want to stick to the forearm only for now, I don’t want to extend around just yet.

Any ideas?

Sleeve themes, starting in 18 days…

I’m about to start my sleeve, I have 36 hours booked from November-March and I’m trying to figure out if I’m incorporating too much. The artist doesn’t do consultation appointments, just loosely puts together the general idea on his iPad and then builds off the idea. I’m confident in their ability, I really like the sleeves I’ve seen, but I’m wondering if I need to simplify the idea.

The themes are: food, art, and nature. I have a list of elements (leaves, flowers, vegetables, birds, herbs, and a few objects lifted from paintings). I wanted everything intermingled like little Easter eggs with some more traditional style and some detailed realism. I’m wondering if I need to simplify the idea and just plan to incorporate the rest somewhere else (imagining maybe another half sleeve or half leg down the road). I’m supposed to reach back out a week before the appointment to sort of go over it once more to remind him what we’re doing. Ultimately he’ll be deciding what/where/how, but just looking for opinions from anybody with more experience. Thanks!

New half sleeve (Cover up) should I continue?

Hey, I just got a half sleeve done, and I’m already wondering if I should do my whole arm. From the beginning I told myself I’d never touch the rest of my arm. What are your thoughts?

Suggestions

A few years back, I got an amazing cow tattoo on the back of my calf with some st Joseph Lillie's, and I've been wanting to build on it to eventually turn my whole leg into a full sleeve. However, I’m finding it challenging to come up with ideas for what to add to complement this piece. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Got this simple tattoo after a traumatic experience. Wanted to keep building on. Any thoughts or recomendations to enhance it? It’s on the inside of my left forearm so is always in view. Thanks in advance!!
