So I got a super nice tattoo about 40 days ago and it got infected. It’s still healing and I took oral and topical antibiotics for it. It’s still healing and it still has some red and red scabbing on it. I have an appointment booked for December 10th to get tattooed on the arm. Is it okay to get tattooed in a different area while the other is still “healing”? I feel fine I don’t have any physical symptoms now. Let me know what yall think!
No itching just redness around it looks like the pattern I shaved but just checking
Prior to my last tattoo (big calf piece) I was dry shaved and my skin got really irritated, so bad it hurt to the touch. I decided to power through, but it was one of the most excruciating sessions I’ve ever had. I’ve got a full sleeve and knee to upper thigh covered in bold American traditional art. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this or is the calf that bad!?
I live in ohio if that helps
Before this post is flagged, I want to emphasize I do NOT condone or encourage getting any sort of body modifications while ACTIVELY TAKING accutane or within one month post-treatment.
With that being said, I did get a tat one month after finishing my treatment with approval from both my dermatologist and tat artist. I was a bit skeptical about only waiting a month given that when I completed by first round of accutane a few years back, my derm then told me that 6 months was the minimum requirement.
However, my new derm told me that one month was the minimum requirement and that the 6 month waiting period was based on outdated research. One month was the minimum and 3 months is to be as safe as possible. To ease my anxieties, he even told me that if it were him, he would get a tat himself one month post-accutane.
With that being said, my tat healed beautifully and here is what it looks like one month later. The only difference I noticed is that it did take longer to heal and you most definitely do have to take a higher level of care and caution when it comes to after care. Obviously because accutane is a drying medication, the tat required a thin layer of lotion application I would say at least every two hours during its peeling phase (with other tats I got, I only had to apply lotion two or there times throughout the day). It was constantly dry without the reapplications.
I would say if you're not capable or willing to care for it the way it needs to be cared for, then stay on the safe side and wait at least 3 months post treatment before considering any body mods. If you're willing to put in a little extra work and time to make sure it's adequately cared for and healing correctly, I think you'll be fine.
Note that everyone's body is different. My recommendation just to play it as safe as possible would be to wait a minimum of 3 months to avoid the prolonged healing period and additional aftercare requirements. I don't think 6 months is necessary however (and neither does my derm). If you notice that cuts and other small injuries are taking much longer to heal even months after being off of the medication, then wait as long as needed before getting any body modifications.
I will be getting a few minor touch-ups in the upcoming weeks, but I get all of my tats touched up bc I’m anal and OCD + my skin has more melanin obviously and I like for the shading to be as dark as possible.
It’s only my second tattoo and it’s on day 4 of healing. I just wanted honest opinions on the design and art work. I love it but the pink is not as prominent as I was hoping/expecting, but I’m not sure if that is just because of healing?
Thanks in advance!
Looking for an artist located in the us that does a similar style to this.
Any advice on what I need to do
So I got a tattoo this past black Friday and have a trip at the end of December. I was wondering what the consensus was on being able to use a hot tub after having a tattoo for about a month. The tatt is about 7"
here’s a practice tattoo I did. It’s far from perfect so if anyone is willing to share any advice on technique I would greatly appreciate it. 👹
hi all, i just got a tattoo a few hours ago and i didn’t get any second skin with mine. obviously it’s not a need, but i was wondering if anyone had good ideas on how to heal it without suffocating it or getting it infected? its only like work so i assume it’ll be easier to heal. thanks!
hi ! i just got my first tattoo like 4 days ago. i’m noticing this black stuff in the microscopic tiny wrinkles on my arm. i really feel like it’s just stained ink? but i’m a worrier and i’m terrified it’s blown out. i’m super happy with the tattoo i just need someone to tell me not to worry haha
I have a handful of tattoos including one on my knee, all my other tats older and newer never had any issues or reacted weird. I've had the one on my knee for 4/5 ish years now, it started fading after a year or so of getting it so for the past few years it's been kinda faded/greenish which I was fine with. I haven't done anything different than what I usually do skin care, hygiene, sunlight, clothing whatever in the past months but suddenly it's a deep deep black even more so than before it faded. It's not raised or itchy or anything like that. I don't mind I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this and what might've caused it.
I got a tattoo three weeks ago and it’s been a nightmare from start to finish. It’s been my worst to heal, it gave me bad tattoo flu, it’s not finished yet so I have to go back, there’s a mistake in the tattoo (not my fault, the stencil was perfect, there was a mistake in the transferring and have double checked the stencil videos so confident in this), I’m experiencing a fair bit of ink fallout despite healing it like my others and they all look perfect, and it’s still giving me a lot of pain. It’s constantly dry, I’m going through cream like it’s going out of style but it’s like so dry it’s painful and dusty. It also feels like I’ve got constant carpet burn. Still can’t lie on it even for a minute. It’s so painful. It’s on the side of my thigh. It’s the biggest piece I’ve had but not by much. I’m also experiencing massive tattoo regret. I just want it gone, I hate it and it’s making me not feel beautiful anymore, despite being fairly covered. I don’t want a cover up, it’s not even that bad of a tattoo but I just want it gone. I’m not sure laser is an option as it’s massive (entire thigh) and full colour (red, pink, yellow, beige, white, blue, green, purple). I just wish I’d never got it and I wondered if anyone had any advice on how to get it to stop hurting because it doesn’t seem infected and what to do to remove it or just accept its existence? I’ve experienced initial tattoo regret before and it’s not at all like that.
This is my 2nd tattoo. Just linework and light shading so far but this part always scares me. Is tingling and burning normal? It's not painful.. But definitely different than the other tatt on my upper arm..It's usually after cleaning and moisturizing which I imagine would happen on a healing wound lol. The peeling and cracking seems normal so far. I love it so far though. Just hope it's healing OK! 🦇🖤
So for multiple health reasons, I’ve had a few surgeries the past two years and one more this coming January. The first surgery scar is about two years old and the second about a year. Since I’ll have newer scars now, what’s the general timeline/consensus on how long to wait to tattoo. I’ve wanted a stomach piece forever but I fear that might not be possible. Any advice welcome!

Got this tat done a few days ago. There’s two flowers, this is the smaller one. It seems to be peeling/scabbing. Not sure if it looks okay or not. The large flower looks totally fine compared to this one…
Hello. I just got this piece done last Friday (11/29). This photo was taken today (12/3). This is the first one I've had in a while that I didn't tegaderm, just dial soap and aquaphor. I've noticed that my skin is very red and rashy, with little bumps, all around the PERIMETER of the tattoo, but not actually ON it (kind of hard to see in the photo but trust me, very bumpy) The tattoo itself seems to be healing normally ie. No weeping/oozing, not excessively painful. I'm wondering if it's just some localized irritation from when they shaved my arm. Also, based on what I've read, I think I may have been going too heavy on the Aquaphor. It's kind of hard to see in the photo, but the rash seems to follow the shaving line, and doesn't cross over in to the hairy parts of my arm. Also wondering if this might be an allergic reaction to something. I've have these blues and yellows elsewhere in my body, though not necessarily from the same manufacturer. I've been trying to self-diagnose on Google (ALWAYS a bad idea), but I was hoping to get some more eyes on it before resigning myself to having staph crawl up into my brain. Thanks!
Hey guys so I just got a piece done on my upper arm. This is my fourth Tattoo, and for the previous three I waited a week to go back to the gym and all three healed wonderfully. This one also seems to be healing well however this is a colored tat, so would the same apply for colored tats? How long do y’all generally wait to go back to the gym?
So I got this tattoo almost 2 months ago. Some of the thicker lines are still raised. This is my 5th tattoo and this is the first time it happened. Any idea what caused this and if I can do something about it?
