I wanna talk to strangers

I’m (30, m), and I feel like I’m past going out al the time (becoming an extreme introvert) and I just want to talk about anything (texting or voice channel) to people who don’t know me. We can talk about unpopular opinions, intrusive thoughts, challenges we face here, idc. I would like it to be a place to vent to someone I don’t know who doesn’t have a preexisting perception of me and would listen or give their raw, blunt opinions. I also love listening to people talk and express themselves in a spontaneous way.

Who’s your favourite Syrian historical figure??? Bat-Zabbi is my all-time favourite, and here is why.

Since leaving Syria, I have developed a habit of reading, listening to, or watching historical accounts of Syrian history. Since our future is uncertain and the country's current state is devastating, I find hope in learning about our past. It’s my only safe space. This is going to sound so freaking Syrian. Still, I find Zenobia, aka Bat-Zabbai (written "Btzby" in the Palmyrene alphabet), the most exciting and inspiring figure in our history. How she managed to bridge and unite the Hellenic and Semitic segments of Syrian society back then. The opportunist and somewhat crafty military and political strategies. Everything about our queen screams competence and pride, and I can only imagine how devastated she would be if she found out about the current state of Syrian women and the brutality and injustices they have incurred.

However, she is not unique to our society, where Syrian women are burdened by lifting society and cleaning up the mess we men cause. Also, according to the limited accounts I read, she was beautiful, intelligent, highly educated, spoke many languages fluently, and, according to unreliable sources, was a fierce wrestler as well.

Who's your favourite Syrian (non-arab) historical figure? Also, do you think we will ever have a leader who unites our people against foreign invaders rather than submitting to foreign powers such as Iran or Turkey? Puppets:)

WHAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH JABAL SHEIKH???(mount hermon)

For hours I tried to decipher this damn beautiful mountains problem but I don’t just can’t so I thought I’d ask you guys.

Alright so it used to be mostly inside of Syria and a little bit in Lebanon but then a portion of it got annexed by Israel. my problem is whenever I see anything relating to the mountain online it’s always the fuckin Israeli ski resort, I don’t get it, does Syria not own the top of the mountain still??? And what about Lebanon?? Why can’t I find any content online of a Lebanese or Syrian taking a picture on the mountain or hiking it? A map clearly shows most of the mount being under Syrian control but I’m starting to feel like it’s under full Israel control

Passport renewal

So i wanna renew my passport here in dubai, but when i went there they only accept 800 usd for the fast process, but if i want the normal process its 300 usd, not the issue.

The problem is for the normal process its only through an online application, and in order to do that i need to hold the national number ( which i dont have), so how can i renew my passport online without having a national number?

I never went to syria , i was born abroad and lives abroad my whole life if that information is important.

Sponsor/host for eVisa application

Hello and marhaba all,

I'm a Taiwanese passport holder, and trying to apply for a tourist visa to visit Syria in November. I plan to enter Syria through the Jordanian border, departing from Amman and arriving in Damascus by bus (as getting a Lebanese visa is extremely troublesome and difficult for Taiwanese citizens).

I have already submitted the application on the online portal and paid for it - but when the system asked for a host (or sponsor as some tour operators word it), I thought it meant my accommodation information, so I filled in the contact information of a hotel. After a short conversation with a local who currently lives in Syria, he mentioned that he encountered quite some tourists who did the same, but all of them failed to get the visa application approved.

I've been searching online, only to find out that Syrian embassies and consulates stopped issuing visa (for those who are applicable for eVisas) after the country introducing the eVisa system, so I can't apply for a visa through any physical offices. Also, the tour operators I checked only assist guests who are attending their group tours, both for eVisa applications and the security clearance paper for visas on arrival.

As a result, I am wondering if anyone got this sorted. Has anyone applied for (or heard about applying for) the eVisa with hotel information and succeded? Or, does someone know any trustable individuals or tour operators could be used as a host in the eVisa application? Of course, I am willing to pay a fee for such service.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Middle aged man with literally one class left for graduation

Joined Damascus Uni in 2002 and studied business. Got caught up with work abroad and never got the chance or motivation to complete it. But it came down to literally one final class (maddeh) and for me going down to Syria now is off the table.
Is there a way I can apply to that exam remotely? If not, what are my options to obtain this degree? Tried transferring my credits to an online US Uni, but it only knocked off a handful of credits.

Couple Question for alawites

What are your thoughts on the Syrian revolution?

Why do you guys like bashar al Assad so much despite him having contributed nothing to Syria?

For those of you living abroad, how has your interaction been with anti assad Syrians?

Do you think there is a sectarian hatred towards alawites in Syria?

Even in the darkest of times, the Syrian people's integrity always shines...

Despite everything going on now and for the past several years, the kindness and honesty of Syrians and Syrian society never failed to amaze me. I was just thinking, today, about how when I was in Liwa Iskandaroun and Lebanon last year, about the Syrians I met in these places, who were some of the kindest people I met, honest, despite having almost nothing to their name. Like the Syrian van driver who, despite there being no one else in the van, took me all the way from Baalbek to Chtoura and wouldn't take more than 200,000 LBP, the standard fare, and a Syrian lady in Iskenderun (sadly, damaged by the earthquake) who insisted for paying for my falafel (had just arrived there on a trip from Lebanon, and didn't change money yet) despite me trying to refuse/insist I had money but just needed to change it. She refused to hear my protests and wanted to pay anyway. For me, the money is irrelevant, it's about the principle, and these 2 lovely people, who I have no idea where they are now or what has come of them in light of recent circumstances, are just a few examples of the very many principled and deeply honest Syrians I met. If the war can't break this spirit, nothing will!

Love and best wishes to you all, may you see the better future that you undoubtedly deserve!

Why are music services banned/not available in Syria?

Why isn't Youtube music, Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Bandcamp, Amazon Music, Soundcloud, Vimeo, or anything like that allowed in Syria? What IS allowed in Syria? What's even allowed on Youtube in Syria?

Nightmares about the war

It's just a discussion for the people who can releate, no specefic question here.

I'm from Aleppo and moved abroad less than two years ago. I was there during the war but living in regime-controlled neighborhood. Hence, my experience is definitely not as harsh as fellows living in eastern Aleppo or where ever Russia was bombing. I did experience "less sever" war events. The harshest was a mortar falling inside my apartment. Fortunately, we all survived with some kind of miracle. Other memories are things like mortars falling around. That used to happen quite often. I was once one block away from a car bomb (سيارة مفخخة). And one long night of heavy missiles on the neighborhood (I think that was in 2018).

I didn't experience a PTSD or anything of that sort. I, unlike my sister for example, never think about any of these events during daytime. Even if I do, it's not traumatic or anything, they're just some faint memories. But recently, I'm revisiting all of this in my sleep. I don't recall experiencing such kind of nightmares before. I'm shocked that it's happening now, after moving abroad, with no clear trigger.

The nightmares aren't very frequent, but they are bad, like a for real. The feelings and the sounds are so impactful. I can even smell the gun powder. I wake up sweaty and almost panicking. After waking up, a glass of water and a cigarette, I can revive any of these scenes in my head, but they aren't scary. they're only scary when haunting me in my sleep. Next day life goes on normally.

Anyone experienced such a thing?

Do you consider Lebanon to be a part of Syria ?

I always thought of it to be a part of Syria. They speak and eat like us, they even joke like us. They're basically Homsis. I think they resemble us alot, and if Lebanon was not created a 100 years ago, it wouldn't even matter for them. For the record AUB used to be called the Syrian protestant college up until 1920 (for around 60 years). Lebanon is an integral part of Syria, like Dar'aa or Al-Sweida, and Hatay and Gaziantep.
