Chess clubs

Does anyone know of any good chess clubs that are open to lower rated players?

I have thousands of hours playing but I have reached a complete wall playing online chess and cannot improve.

I am a very low rated player around 1300-1400 on chess.com and never had the privilege of playing OTB chess.

Are there any chess clubs that would welcome such a person in the area? I want to improve and learn.

Is it normal for bats to hang around like this?

Stepping out of my student accom this evening and I noticed this bat on the wall that’s been here for a few hours now. Is it usual for them to do this? First close encounter with a bat to fair. Didn’t know they really existed much within the city. How dangerous are they?

Swansea’s resemblance to 1990s London

Saw an article in Wales online about a drama that has recently been filmed in Swansea. The producers filmed in Swansea due to its ‘resemblance to 1990s London’. Interested if anyone has any idea what bits of Swansea look like 1990s London?!?

Anyone know anywhere that still has decent pumpkins?

All the supermarkets either just don't have them (the week of Halloween?) or they're all smushed and unusable!

What is the Swansea and its Marine Life like?

Hello! I am looking to see if I should study at Swansea University in the field of Marine Biology. How is their Marine Biology department? What is the local marine life like in Swansea? Do puffins come to Swansea or do they stay further west on Skomer Island? Is Swansea an interesting place to live for a foreigner? Is it primarily a Welsh or English speaking city? I look forward to learning more about Swansea, thank you very much!

Bus from Port Eynon to Swansea

Hi, we are looking at catching the bus from Port Eynon to Swansea using the 118 Adventure Travel bus. I've been looking at their app to buy a ticket and can't figure if I need a inner or outer Swansea ticket. Just wondering if anyone knows if the bus accepts card to save getting it wrong on the app? Thanks in advance

Welsh and German Language courses in Swansea?

I’ve taken an interest in learning both languages for different reasons (not surprising when it comes to Welsh).

I’m pretty bad at researching places and having confidence in them. Do people know any good in-person classes or the like in Swansea to learn either Welsh or German?

Any Dolls house miniature stores around?

Does anyone know of places that sell dolls house miniature items, I’m more looking for garden items like plant vines and flowers to complete a project I’ve been working on.

Thanks.

Is the Tap on Tap off available on the buses?

How does it work?

The website says you don't have to ask just tap on and then tap off at a different terminal? But that seems rather rude to me to just not ask for what you need and some of the buses I've been on recently don't have the extra terminal.

Would anyone mind explaining the process of how it works to me please?

I'm autistic and have major social anxiety so I feel like I'm making it a bigger deal than it is but once I know what to do I'll be fine. I just don't want to fumble not knowing what to do on the occasion

Hi everyone! I am a student at Swansea University and I am looking to get a studio apartment for 2025-26 (I know it's early but I would like to get a headstart on things). Could someone suggest me where I should be looking? I checked Rightmove as my first instinct but I don't know if it has the best options for me, so I would like to get some suggestions that would help me make an informed decision.

Hope you all are having a brilliant day!

Swansea High St car park query

Hello all, just after some info please. My family and I are going to London Sunday to Tuesday travelling by train and we’re hoping to leave the car in Hight Street car park. I can see it is 24 hours but just wanted to check if the car can be left there multiple days? Looked on the website and it doesn’t say. Thanks for any info.

Interest in a new Pharmacy

Hi r/Swansea, I'm trying to start up a new pharmacy (in Swansea) with a focus on availability online and an app, and I wanted to gauge people's interest. I also want to understand what they like/dislike and want from their local pharmacy. If anyone could help by filling out my survey that would be appreciated.

Question

I was chatting with my mate the other night. We are both from Swansea, different ends I'm more western - Gorseinon and he's from Sketty. We both now live in Townhill. It's become apparent that with some swansea folks there's a tendency to gently slap the person they are talking too constantly on the shoulder, chest, forearm, etc as if to gain attention although they will be making eye contact and do not need to gain attention. We are both late 40s and we notice this amongst our age group and older. It's something we don't get with our peers from the places we grew up in. Any ideas or insights into this affectionate yet somewhat annoying behaviour? Cheers!

Why all the Newport licensed taxis in Swansea?

Pretty much every time I am driving in Swansea city centre I see a couple of taxis with the Newport city logo on them (never see any of the closer local authorities). Does anyone know why this is? only noticed it this year.
