I’m in such a reading slump right now and I’m desperately trying to find my way out. What’s a book that you were so engaged and captivated that you couldn’t put it down until you finished? I usually steer away from fantasy but I’m seriously open to any genre! Thanks for the help!
edit after scrolling and scrolling through this sub I’m only seeing fantasy/mystical genres so I’m looking for something that’s more realistic/nonfiction etc.
I was hoping someone could recommend me a book with characters similar to the Marauders in Harry Potter? Maybe even with a similar rivalry that’s seen between them and Snape? Preferably I’d like it dark academia, or dark academia with a fantasy twist.
I’ve always been interested in reading A Little Life because it is a profoundly emotional read. But I haven’t read it because of the trigger warnings and I’m not sure I can handle it.
With that being said - what are some other books that are profoundly complex or emotional, but with less trauma?
Looking for some thrillers to get into. it's a new genre for me but I've been enjoying shows and since I'm in a bit of a reading slump, being pretty well tired of scifi and fantasy, im hoping to find something new ill actually like reading again.
Kind of like Nocticadia by Keri Lake,i adored that book!
Hey all, my 75yo grandma has mentioned that she’s really been enjoying reading books by Rosie Goodwin - who mostly writes romance/history/fiction. She’s currently reading ‘our fair Lily’, a historical romance by this author.
She’s a really loving person with a great sense of humour. Shes experienced domestic violence, struggled with physical/mental health (bipolar) and the death of her husband to cancer so I don’t think I would get her anything super heavy until I understand her literary taste a bit better. I get the feeling she likes a bit of escapism.
I’ve searched this subreddit for other suggestions, but a lot of these suggestions seem to be for books about old people solving murders, which I’m not sure would be her thing.
Any suggestions appreciated!
I have recently gotten back into reading. I used to be a huge reader as a kid and then, you know, Millennial brainrot set in. I got a Kindle for my birthday and the desire for creativity and imagination has returned to me. I spent the last couple of months reading on my train rides to work instead of using my phone and it feels great.
Anyway, I began reading this novel after a recommendation and it blew me away. If you haven't read it, it's a psychological thriller that takes place in a gay conversation camp paired with a murder mystery. It is classified as YA but I don't mind "adult" books, I read Stardust by Neil Gaiman before it and really enjoyed that as well.
Please recommend me something in this genre. I am mostly wanting to read queer stories (you read what you know!) but I really liked the action, the suspense, and the terror in the book. Thank you, Reddit!
I would prefer fantasy books with romance in them!! The romance doesn't need to be the main focus, and I would actually prefer if the plot came first, but I still want a couple(s) I can ship and they have a happily ever after!! Thanks!!
I've read most of the famous titles and I particularly love periods of history not talked about often. Please don't suggest WW2 stories.
Some favs: Pachinko
The Architect's Apprentice
The Book Thief
All books by Ruta Sepetys
Enlighten me :)
I'm not sure how to exactly describe what I mean, two books I've read recently that felt like this were East of Eden and Demon Copperhead. Stories with a kind of weight to them, stories about things that really matter if that makes sense. I tried reading Slaughter House Five and The Old Man and the Sea this year as well but couldn't get into either of them. I already plan to read all the Steinbeck I haven't already, I think he's my favourite author. Thinking about Lonesome Dove but I feel intimidated..
I'm looking for a board book about cybersecurity. I gotta indoctrinate my newborn early. Anyways, I can find a bunch of kids books on cybersecurity, but they are all paper books, and I'm specifically looking for a board book that my baby cannot tear up. Any ideas?
My husband is looking for recommendations for fiction that is a feel-good, easy read. Maybe a funny read. He reads all kinds of fiction, and enjoys contemporary and mystery stuff best. I’m thinking something like The Rosie Project, or One Day, etc.
Someone please give a good happy book recommendation - I had a miscarriage recently and I’m really struggling and hoping to find a good happy escape place to go to away from here. I appreciate any recommendations!
Side note: I loved Remarkably Bright Creatures recently as a good happy vibe but im open to any genres
Thank you all 🤍
I would love to read your book suggestions!
I'll start off by listing my favorites:
This list is very fantasy/sci-fi focused, and whilst I love those books, it is not a requirement. I don't mind trying new things.
However, I am not into romantic fiction. Romance is fine, but I want a story first. Neither am I into biographies. SA is something that I prefer not to be in POV or described too graphically; mentioning that it happens is fine, I just don't want to experience it as a reader (if that makes sense).
I love to read books to relax and immerse myself.
I hope this gives you enough information to make a recommendation; if not, please ask away.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you!
I’m specifically looking for a book with an MC who started from being poor, to becoming a knight of sorts. If you know any, PLEASE let me know. I’m playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance and really craving to read a book similar to the plot of it!
I have been in a reading rut for a long time!!!! I read ACOTAR recently, and some other romcom/cheesy books, but I can’t get into anything lately! I used to read everyone popular book that would come on the shelves back in 2022, but since I became a mom, it’s been harder to get into books.
Thanks!!!
So I've really been exploring the idea of being queer or transgender and the idea of it being "monstrous". As a trans man myself, I think playing around with the idea of reclaiming power is exceptionally interesting.
Does anyone have any book recommendations along these lines?
Looking for an audio book on Spotify with a Christmas theme. Genre doesn't matter although I'm guessing most will be in the romance category. I'm picky about romance. I enjoy Emily Henry (beach read, funny story) and Christina Lauren (the unhoneymooners) style, but I don't like Abby Jimenez (friend zone) type. The cheesy, gag me with a spoon, romance will be a DNF for me.
I’m looking for something intense and sad to read, or even a psychological thriller. I’m recently getting into psychological and sad genres. It might sound a bit ridiculous, but I’d really appreciate any good suggestions!
Hello everyone, as the title suggests, I really want to start reading books again, but I have no idea where to even start. As a child I absolutely loved reading, I would just read books all the time, even rereading them. As I got older I lost the time to do that.
I'm looking for something with deep lore / hidden lore, with an immersive world. I love mystery stuff, fantasy, magic that kind of thing. But I'm also open to other stuff too. I'm Female, 28 if that's relevant :)
Being a recent new Mum myself, I'm looking for recommendations for books about the experience of motherhood. Can be fiction or non-fiction. Ideally available as an audiobook.
Any fictional book reccomendations about people battling a financial crisis?
Hi I’m looking for a book for a close friend of mine. I’m looking for a romance novel that also has a woman’s success story in it. Something along the lines of starting from the bottom and working towards goals to achieve more and more success in her career and then there’s a romance segment/aspect in it. Anything loosely on this concept helps thanks
I love literary and historical fiction books, but I don’t mind other categories. Books I absolutely love/loved reading are:
All the light we cannot see, by Anthony Doerr
Where the crawdads sing, by Delia Owens
Fresh water for flowers, Valerie Perrin
The language of flowers, by Vanessa Diffenbaugh
Thank you!
I just want to read a book that'll make me cry, no matter how many times I've read it. It doesn’t need to have a happy ending. But I'd prefer a book that's not about breaking up or dating someone toxic. A book that's more focused on non-romantic relationships (like friendships or family) or mental health. It'd be nice if the book was related to loneliness, insecurity, being emotionally neglected, growing apart with loved ones, or negative body image. Please recommend me a good book
I’m interested in a women’s fiction book that has two female best friends or sisters. Maybe they’re at odds with one another then work through their problems. Idk but after reading Night Road by Kristin Hannah I found myself wanting to read about that close knit friendship or sibling connection again!
Hi there. As the title says, I’m looking for a book for my mother. She really enjoys books that slip between multiple timelines - you know, a daughter discovers her grandmother’s diary, and it slips between the twos perspective. She also likes historical books, and anything female centric or slightly even witchy. Anything pertaining to midwifery would also be great.
Any ideas?
Hello!
My local book club girls and I are doing a book exchange at our next book club.
What book would you suggest? It can be the weirdest book you’ve ever read or the best!
Just looking for a good pick!
Thanks in advance!
Also, how long did it take you to acquire it?
I need books that explore the concept of the why the Vatican is so secretive.
And Scientology. Just general Scientology so please, point me in the right directions.
