Hello, this is my first post in this community; just been watching from afar and doing research. I’m planning on building an AR within the next few months and have been putting together my parts list, learning more about the platform, etc. One thought that I’ve had consistently, which I’m sure is shared by most of you, is what effect a Trump presidency will have on buying guns/parts. I know the right wing thing is “hands off our guns” but I’m curious whether his tariff policy could possibly drive up prices and have an unintended effect. I’m not familiar with every manufacturer but I’m sure most of them don’t exclusively get their materials from the U.S.
What do you guys think?
just got a membership at a local gym and i need to improve the muscles which let you hold a rifle in front of you for a long time etc. workout recommendations?
Like the title says. Not necessarily looking to be part of SRA officially thought it's a consideration. But I want to organize range days for SC/Lowcountry people. I'm planning on going at least once a week every week for the foreseeable future. Would love for some likeminded people to join.
I'm looking for my comrades in Iowa. Let's get organized! Shoot me a message if you're interested.
You have now.
I suggest we spread the rumor.
It's been discussed lately that he pilfered talking points from the Bernie 2016 campaign to win over "Bernie Bros" from the Joe Rogan sphere.
Why would he not also like the idea of debt forgiveness?
Remember when Trump delayed the stimulus checks so they could be re-printed with his name on them? He insisted on taking formal credit for the good deed.
If we're about to swallow a lot of shit, let's get a thing or two for ourselves.
I am manifesting that Trump will forgive student debt.
He wants to gut federal agencies and oversight, he wants to gut the dept of education and restructure education as we know it anyways.
He loves taking credit for things that are publicly well received.
He leeched into some Bernie-esque policy items to win over undecided voters.
He's admitted his policy, especially whatever Elon does, will cause pain in the short term. Between immigration "reform" decimating agriculture and construction and tariffs cranking consumer costs, people will be strapped, more broke, and angrier in the short term.
Alleviation of student debt could act as a stimulus at a time when people can't afford to eat.
Am I delusional? Maybe. This definitely feels like magical thinking of maybe a stage of grief.
But idgaf. Student debt relief would help me personally and millions of others.
I'm looking to pick up a small self defense pistol. Mostly for home defense, but I plan to get a holster to carry it if needed. Currently I don't have space to secure a long gun, but I have a bit of experience with ar's and shotguns. The guy at the counter at cabelas seemed to really like glocks, he recommended the G43x, with a small green dot sight. I handled that, a slightly wider glock that I didn't really like, and a S&W MP 9 shield plus. Of the three, the S&W felt the best in hand, and was $50 cheaper, at $399.
Any reliability differences I should know about? Or another sub$450 gun I should consider? I don't have a sight picked out yet, but I was looking in the $200-$300 range. I'd also get a spare magazine, small safe, cleaning kit, holster, and a couple hundred rounds to start and train with. Anything I'm forgetting?
Some of y'all need to hear the lyrics from Bam himself
My friend has a HATSAN Escort Bulltac that I really enjoyed shooting. I’d like to get one for home defense. I have a Mossberg 500A pump with a 28” barrel but it’s too long to have a good range of motion in my hallways. I like that the Bulltac is short, and I love the bullpup design. I’m seeing a few different options for bullpup shotguns. Does anyone have any experience with any of these? What are your thoughts? The Bulltac is tube feed only, are the 1919 style magazines reliable, or is tube feed better? Should I just get a shorter barrel for my Mossberg and forget the Bullpup altogether?

So yesterday I got a surprisingly warm welcome and some great conversation. I admitted I'm different somewhat ideologically and we all found common ground and sang kumbaya. Here's a real hot topic and there's only one right answer...when you get a rifle that you really like does rattle can in fact go psssshhhh pssshhhh. I posted a Pic today of my 308 I haven't gotten to rattle can yet but I feel like rifles I like absolutely have to get spray painted eventually. The ones I do are the ones that will never get sold
Got her in February this is from her first outing out. Consistent hits to 750 on dirt cheap steel case, and surp 762
A frightening reminder of who the enemy really is, in their own words.
For the proletariat to act, struggle and abolish the private-property system they have to be organized as a mass class.
By “organizing”, we connect workers, the oppressed & marginalized with each other, in bottom up democratic groups.
Any “revolutionary” group has to be kept free of opposing class elements - collaborational, reformist, and saboteur - or they will end up crushing and killing the movement.
The groups, organizations, that the proletariat need correspond to the spheres in which they meet as a class and contradict the ruling class:
Political, in a mass party which can provide an arena for struggle, for the promotion of left ideals/goals, and for the coordination of political actions. This means we absolutely must create a split of the radical and progressive electoral population from the bourgeois parties and into the existing left ones - Green, PSL, and even a debate around DSA/CPUSA.
Economic, through the unions which have always acted as the arena for economic struggle, and which need to not only be flooded with membership - by pushing for greater already existing union membership and viciously supporting new union formation - but pushed leftward from economic only concerns. There is another debate on the creation of radical unions, or engaging within the reformist ones.
Although the political party, and ultimate the proletarian vanguard, is the source and general arena of the theoretical struggle, and since there is no eligible vanguard, the debate and dissemination of Marxist, and socialist/communist theory, is paramount / including in existing parties and unions. Book clubs, study groups, debates, all are valuable.
As there are very clear fascist programs in the U.S. - deportations, imprisonment, homeless camp sweepings - and the array of problems from Late Stage Capitalism mean that we absolutely have to from mutual aid networks, in the general manner we’ve discussed, centered around food, water, clothing, shelter, legal/medical aid, strike support, community defense, etc.
These are all the basic points which organizing should focus and build around that I’ve roughly typed together until a project about this in detail is completed.
So to preface this im in no way a fan of mass socialism,or big government in general for that matter. I guess on the political spectrum atleast on the test I am leftist libertarian. All that being said the world is kinda nuts and sometimes we become allies with different people than we expect.
So my best friend of over 20 years gets most his gun info from the left side of reddit so I have to thank yall first. He's been talking to me about things recently and yall finally have him not looking like a 1992 Soviet yard sale. That's pretty great. I also wanted to say anyone in central Texas that needs any kind of firearms training, basic med etc please reach out. I might not agree with yall 100% on everything but I have more common ground with yall than I do the other side. Bigotry is gross guns are cool and in case anyone needs a warm and fuzzy there's certain ones of us that wear funny green suits every day that take our oath to protect citizens extremely seriously.
If you made it this far thanks for your time I know that was kinda long winded and rambly ramby tldr: i never thought I'd be shoulder to shoulder with socialists but times are changing and im always down to help where I can.
Why do people push for everyone to buy the same gun?
there are lots of good guns, and even more guns that are good enough. The value of getting a community to all get the same gun is not elitism, ableism, classism, or weird brand loyalty. It's about building a pool of knowledge, a network of resources that new gun owners can take advantage of. If every person buys a different gun, each person has to learn everything about that gun themselves. If the community instead standardizes on a single family of firearms, we can share our knowledge and gear. That means that when you buy your new gun, I can give you a couple spare mags. That homie can give you a spare holster. This girl has all the maintenance schedules and roundcounts memorized and can remind you it's time to replace spring x. That fella has a box of spare parts so if something goes wrong he can swap it for you. Together we become far stronger and more capable as a group, and we support each other.
Why the Glock specifically, and not another gun?
No gun is perfect, and glocks are no exception - but the "new gun owner" gun doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be simple, inexpensive, and reliable. Glocks are the most popular handgun in the USA, and that means that when choosing a gun to be the community choice to build institutional knowledge it already has a baked in advantage - the majority of us have one already. Parts are more common than any other gun and are even made by multiple manufacturers. Glocks are some of the simplest guns ever designed - only 34 parts in the G19. The oft-maligned glock grip is uncomfortable *when you use a bad grip* so it helps teach you proper grip technique. The cost-to-own is extremely low because the base gun is already very low, often only $300 for a lightly used police trade-in. Magazines are half the cost of the average pistol mag, and any holster or gunsmithing is often cheaper because of the volume sold. Many guns could fill the role of the glock here, but no gun has so many advantages for a new shooter or for a community trying to support each other with a universal platform. The gen3 glock patent has even expired so you don't even have to buy a glock made by glock! (you still should.)
There are many good guns, but the movement here to "just get a glock" is about more than finding a good gun. It's about giving a new gun owner the most possible resources, and about building a network of people that have the tools and knowledge to support each other.
This was a good read, figured I'd share.
Defiance must be woven into the fabric of our daily lives, rather than simply proclaimed at marches or on social media.
hi, I'm sorry if I come across like a complete newbie, but I'm trying to figure out where to start when purchasing my first gun. my old man wants to get me a .357 magnum but I honestly have no idea where to even begin looking at guns or whatnot. I've been reading guides for how to properly take care of them / learning about gun safety, and I plan to go to a range eventually, but I was wondering what even is good to start with. all I've ever owned are knives and a baseball bat, so unfortunately I have no background here.
I want to be a responsible owner, so... yeah. here I am. I hope this is an okay place to post this? but any guides or articles about buying a gun and proper care and handling and pretty much all the basics would be extremely appreciated, especially since I want to learn from a leftist perspective and not delve into the right or anything like their ilk.
EDIT: I got a little overwhelmed by all the responses, but mostly because there was a lot to take in and think about. I really appreciate everyone who took the time to reply and I'll have to check back in once I finally make a decision on what to purchase for my first gun, as well as training / etc.
Then the systems and structure will be in place to go beyond their original intention. All of a sudden that saying “first they came for X and I said nothing” crept up on me after realizing this.
Once the camps are built and law enforcement has refined their technique there’s nothing stopping them from removing whoever they want. Keep this in the back of your mind while we move forward.
Right now I have a subcompact pistol for edc and home defense and an AR. With tax returns in a few months I’m thinking of adding something new to my collection:
Shotgun for home defense: the main downside being lack of access to a range I can practice. Should I go with this I’d probably be able to hit a suitable range a few times a year.
Full sized pistol for home defense.
A compact pistol for edc and home defense (would probably sell my compact).
Also taking any recommendations if you think I should invest in something else.
Any shooting ranges in the Dallas area that aren’t tied to any MAGA chuds or Thin Blue Line crap? Not currently an SRA member but this sub is right down my alley politically.

trying to mount a vortex razor. i heard larue was good but they don’t seem to list what size their scope mounts are on the website so idk which ones 34mm
I'm trying to put together a good go bag for if shtf and am trying to figure out exactly what to pack. I take medication for epilepsy, a decent amount, so I know I'm going to have to pick up extra and save it but other than first aid, multi-tool, etc what else do yall pack? The bag I currently have isn't too big, it's a SOG bag but I can't fit a ton. Do you keep ammo & small firearm(s) in there or? Also trying to decide if my wife and I should have separate or 1 single to lessen the amount of items to carry. Food would also be a necessity as well. I may be over thinking and over planning but any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA
Hi all,
So I am in the fortunate position of having moved to a state with more access to firearms. Im planning to purchase a new firearm but can't decide between a compact/full-size striker fire handgun or an AR.
I'm not new to firearms, but I've never shot with much frequency because range access was pretty tough in my last state, and before that money was really tight. I'm now in the position where I can shoot more and want to get something to take advantage of that.
I was gifted a subcompact 9mm several years ago (very lucky I know). However, I hate shooting it and don't know if it's a good idea to try to improve fundamentals on it. I also don't CCW and don't really plan to for the foreseeable future , but that could always change. That said, I do already have a handgun, so I don't know if I should round out my collection with an AR before getting another handgun.
I could see myself trying out some competitive shooting like IDPA and/or USPSA. But I also definitely like the idea of learning to operate and shoot a rifle better as well.
Wondering about y'all's input about what you'd buy next in my shoes! Thanks!
FWIW - I hunt small game, so I also have a 12 GA and a .22 bolt action.
I’m interested in joining the SRA and ultimately creating a chapter for Southwest Ohio. Personally I’m in a tight spot financially and at least initially would be interested in starting out utilizing their fee waiver but it appears I need a sponsor of a current member to add to my application.
I am a mid 30s female and was raised in Appalachia hunting and I’m very familiar with guns. I also grew up a Quaker, yeah they’re not really into guns. However growing up as a Quaker you go to Meeting which is the version of church and the kids go to a variation of what Christians and Catholics would call first day school. Additionally I attended quarterly and yearly regional meetings that had workshops. And there we learn things like how to act if we get arrested for protesting, how to create mutual aid groups, how to create committees, govern through consensus, and many more very relevant skill sets to starting An SRA chaoter. In college I was also involved in the Rainbow Alliance, was a 4H officer, was on Quaker committees, and have worked with my local Food Not Bombs chaoter. As well as just generally helping to organize community resources and protests. Both my parents worked for nonprofits that served low income and homeless communities and I did a lot of volunteer work with those groups throughout my life.
Ultimately I would like to facilitate the creation of a chapter of the SRA where I am at to bring individuals together who have and don’t have experience with firearms. I believe it is paramount that all individuals understand how to use one of the most important physical tools for protecting ourselves available. I feel like having activities such as educating people on how to use firearms, how a shop for them, and even things like growing and canning your own food (as I have done my entire life) I believe would be incredibly beneficial and facilitate a community network for like-minded individuals that not only create more firearm ownership and safe practices surrounding that, but also just to bring people together to learn and lean on.
Is there anybody who would be willing to message me and give me their name for the fee waiver application? The SRA says you don’t have to even use your real name but whatever one you signed up with I guess would be what I need. I would greatly appreciate it. I do ultimately intend to pay dues to the organization but for my first year I could use some help. I had heart a urgery a couple months ago and I am still trying to financially get myself back together from not having worked. Unfortunately $36 does actually really matter to my pocket right now.
And if there is anybody who lives in Southwest or Southeast Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana or even West Virginia(because there are no freaking chapters in any of those places) DM me, let’s connect.

Sorry for the newb question. I've been looking at this rifle for the last few days, but I can't seem to get a clear answer on whether or not I can just put a silencer on it. Does it come already threaded? Do I have to pay to get it threaded? I am aware that I have to fill out paperwork, and pay a tax. I just want to know what steps I have to take to get the silencer physically on it after I purchase it.
