I live in Tucson, Arizona and was considering possibly a vinegaroon! I’m not sure though, any suggestions?
I got some of these guys this week. I don't have heat source at the moment and my room sits at between 20c (68F) and 24c (75F). The first night i put down some carrot for them but in the morning it wasnt touched. Tonight I'm leaving them potato, hopefully they will go for it as they won't have eating for a few days now.
Could this be down to the temperature? I've ordered a heat pad i can fix to the side of the tank and a thermostat so I can try to keep them around 24-25c more of the time.
Otherwise I'm fairly happy with their setup. They have a mix of zoomed reptisoil and coco coir as substrate and loads of big pieces of cork bark they can go under - they seem to hang out under here mostly. I've been keeping it moist. There is a small water bowl with some water in too, its got a pebble in so they cant fall in.
Should I be worried? Do you think the bump in temp will help? That should arrive tomorrow or the day after.
Struggling for ideas on decor due to the height! It's 41cm tall! Any advice?
Morticia in her full glory on the move.
i have giant african land snail and giant african train millipede and wanting to add more live plants to both of their enclosures. In my snails enclosure i have a tradescatia zebrina and spider plant. And my millipede currently has no plants.
I keep houseplants so wondering if any of these are safe for either animals:
Polka dot plant Tradescantia nanouk and a smaller green variety Pilea peperomiodies (idk how to spell it but a money plant) Satin pothos Phillodenron brazil Peperomia teardrop
Are there any other plants that would be good? Im wanting to get a fern for them but havent found a small one yet.
I had some small white isopods pop up in with my hoffmannseggii, and a few people had thought that maybe the bin had been infested with the devils rice. 😄
Turns out that they were a leucistic morph!
Not posting this to be weird, apologies if it offends anyone. I’m not trying to breed these guys, but I thought this was kinda cool to see. I’d seen the male beetles mount the female beetles before, but this is the first time I’ve seen an aedeagus (beetle penis). I know it’s a short video and the lighting is bad, but if you zoom in, you can see it.
Planning on adding my mealworm beetles, Croatian giant isopods and one large millipede and several smaller ones into a 20 gal with lots of climbing and digging space, anything I should be particularly worried about?
Any advise! Can be inverts or reptiles. Maybe some kind of small gecko? Otherwise, let me know anything really!!!
Hello, Im interested in keeping and breeding beetles sometime in the near future (either eastern Hercules beetles or american stag beetles, currently undecided), and I was wondering what to do if i have TOO many beetles/larva at one time? I know adults can lay 80+ eggs, but i dont really have the room for more than a male and a couple of females at any one time. And uf I do have to cull them, what would be the most humane way?
I'm looking for scorpion sellers in the USA, any recommendations? I'm highly interested in level 3 and below - but not Pandinus or Heterometrus. Specifically interested in Chaerilus, Orthochirus, and Vaejovis!
Thanks in advance!
Hey folks! I’m new to the hobby, and I wanted some advice and opinions on your favorite enclosures and habitats. I’m looking to get a couple beetles, and maybe a couple spiders or millipedes. What do you normally go with and why? Thanks for your help!
Heya!
For the past week my Red Stag Beetle has emerged from marinating in the substrate and been excitedly running around and exploring.
But tonight like an hour ago, I noticed her wiggling on her back. Id try to flip her over but she'd go back on her back and wiggle some more. Ive tried to pick her up and hold her but she doesnt grip on at all and doesnt seem to balance well.
The pic is her rn ;;
I was trying to flip her right side up more, but she seems adamant to be on her back.
Not sure whats going on or what to do :(
Any advice, esp if this has happened to your little guys, Id be happy to listen to!! thanku~
my plant is outside during summer then indoors for winter. i was having dinner tonight only to look over and see a tiny katydid nymph on the table, then another sitting on my plant. it’s been raining all day and 50 degrees so they can’t go outside now, and if they stayed on my plant and the table my cats would likely just eat them. i put them in a container with holes for air, lettuce, and a damp paper towel. will they be alright for a few days? next week the temps will be 60-70s so i plan to let them outside then.
Was looking for mealworms at petco and found a container where one of them had turned into a beetle already and I felt bad for it so I took it home. I know it’s a darlkling beetle but will he be okay if I put him in my death feigning beetle enclosure
I have 6 GALS in my bedroom at the moment, 3 very large and 3 new borns (obviously separate from big) 2 of my Oldies have laid what I’ve referred to as “test clutches” when they were all separated. Now that I’ve put them together for the past 2 months, all I’ve seen is snail mating which is scaring my brain 😭 One has laid a “test clutch” again and I’m wondering if it any signal for being ready to lay or breed? Now the amount of GALS looking for homes are astronomical so I’m thinking of crushing most, if not all, of the eggs if laid
Hi, I am starting my collection of inverts and wondering what the next animal i should get is. I will not be getting another for a few months however want to start looking into it so know everything beforehand. For context, I have had a Giant african land snail for 6 months and have had a giant african train millioede for a month. They are both doing great despite not seeing them very often haha. Ive been thinking of animals like jumping spiders (despite being scared of spiders), praying mantises or leaf insects but im open to ideas.
I have been wanting invertebrates for years, and I can finally support one. My main concern is that my room can get quite noisy at night as I have other nocturnal animals.
I'm also looking for something that would generally be okay with being handled, and isn't super large. 6" is about the max size I can support. I have access to live prey, but I'd prefer something that has a bit of an easier diet. I'd also rather have something that would be okay living alone.
Thank you :)
