I am looking into getting an aquatic insect/invert tank. I love those tiny sunburst diving beetles and was wondering if they could successfully be kept with shrimp with no casualties? I have also read that diving beetles prefer still water but would want some movement for the shrimps sakes. Would this be a successful set up, or would everyone be too stressed? What other fish or inverts could be kept with small diving beetles?
I’ve got a 25 gallon with a breeding population of mealworms and their beetles. Got about 150 beetles. I also have some isopods that I’d love to add to the beetles to help with clean up. My question is will the isopods harm the beetles/mealworms in any way. Will pupae be harmed? Baby mealworms?
Tried to feed the isopods (porcellio spatulatus) in this sun beetle (pachnoda marginata) enclosure with some dried minnows, but the beetles absolutely engorged themselves on the spoils instead. I have now added, in total, four tablespoons of feed, and almost all of it is gone. Talk about being protein-hungry!
At one point the largest isopod had found a dried shrimp, and was confronted with one of the beetles trying to get a taste as well. There was a brief tug of war for the shrimp, but the isopod just snapped its meal for itself, and proceeded to dangle it in mid-air so the beetle couldn't get to it. From the two species, the one without wings seems to be more clever than the lumbering, usually fruit-eating behemoths.
my millipede's tank has been completely overrun by leucocoprinus birnbaumii/flowerpot dapperling, which is a common mushroom in my area. its in the flowering stage. airing on the side of caution i moved my girl out and into a different tank, but im wondering if its even a problem?
flowerpot dapperling is the sign of really healthy, rich soil, and the economy (so to speak) in the tank is booming. millipedes in my area love to eat this stuff.
giant african millipedes eat mushrooms and rot of all sorts so wouldnt it be GOOD to have a mycelial colony in her home?
Hello a nice person from r/spiders directed my question here! I was wanting to find someone who is knowledgeable about Deinopidae (oger faced spiders) as I was considering getting one and I've been searching for potential enclosures for it and can't seem to find one big enough with the required verticality that Deinopidae need as well as since they are rather nimble I can't seem to find one that I think would reasonably be able to contain them. If anyone has any resources or a nice little info dump it would be greatly appreciated thank you!
I'm getting some pachnoda marginata (sun beetles) and wondering what leaves are safe. Is it all hard woods? I have an Acer tree and another tree in my garden that has loads of fallen leaves right now and wondering if I can use them in the terraium
So today I got some mealworms. I'm trying to find care tips, but pretty much the only ones I can find are about feeder farms. Anyone got any tips? P.S, I will be getting some desert beetles, but they'll be in separate enclosures. :)

So I've started to read book about nature that I used to read in mh childhood and I've stumbled upon this cool arachnid known as „Trogulus tricarinatus“ and I just came to love it it looks so cool and actually kinda cute so I decided that next year I will look for some and try keeping it/them as a pet Any idea or experience about what would be the ideal enclouser, food etc etc. for them ?
Funny to think at the beginning of September this collection wasn’t here LOL. In the far left enclosure I am housing a Mexicanfire leg tarantula the largest tank on the right houses and Asian forest scorpion above it I’m hoping to house peach and black fire millipedes. I am also thinking about buying a very small juvenile desert yellow scorpion and continuing my tarantula collections
I just got 15 of them 💀 might have a problem
Was thinking about millipedes. Any good recommendations? Was thinking about black fire… pics are welcome
What do I do!? Will they survive one extra day in 4°c weather?? They're blue death feigning beetles. I bought them from a shop pretty far away and it's been missorted and the delivery office is closed. So they'll be coming tomorrow.
So ya I need help choosing what my first pet should be I’m very new and need help even the basics I know nothing so I need help choosing something easy but also interesting I’m actually clueless so.. Aldo I have a 60 gallon fish tank that I’m could use so I love beetles but I don’t know anything on how to care for this kind of creatures
Hey so I want something I’m wondering what I should get any recommendations (preferably not to expensive) I don’t know what to get I was thinking a tarantula but there a little expensive and need a big enclosure I love beetles but I don’t think I would be capable of maintaining them because (what ever you guys chose will be my first ) so I’m brand new to this I’ve only ever had fish so something simple please 🙏 help guys
I'm planning on getting sun beetles but want some advice. I want to put them is a 45cm by 45cm traingluar enclure which is 45cm tall. I want to keep them for a while so hoping they will breed so I don't have to keep buying new ones when they die. How many would you suggest getting? Also any suggestions for live plants, decor, substrate etc would be appreciated.
I won't be getting them for a bit still so will have enough time to research fully.
Sprickets, BDFB's, Asphalt Ironclad Beetles, Bruiser Piedish Beetles, Darkling Beetles, maybe a roach in a separate enclosure, and some isopods or springtails that could live in sandy substrate.
