Gotham game time and me trying to go

So our next game is at Gotham next Sunday, scheduled at 1 but Gotham's game last week was moved to evening due to heat and high 80s are forecast there next weekend

https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Harrison&state=NJ&site=OKX&lat=40.7435&lon=-74.1534

Would they reschedule due to that? I understand not wanting to run around in that weather

Last time it was announced Friday

I'd like to go as NYC is a manageable road trip but accounting for both possibilities when picking bus tickets means a lot of extra time hanging around Newark and some redeyes

I’m interested in signing my daughter up for one of the kids clinics and was hoping to gather more information from any parents whose kids have participated in the past!

King

Honestly want everyone's opinion on the player, clinically. In the hopes that someone can explain her value to the front line of the Reign FC. She has a mean rip outside the 18. But that's all I see out of that player once every 5 games.

Can someone with more soccer acumen explain to me why she's in over the likes of Latsko?

For the record, I don't intend this to be a hate comment thread. I genuinely want to know what I'm missing and would love to see positive criticism

Are there any merch sales at games?

New fan and going to my first game tomorrow! ⚽ I ordered a pride T-shirt and USPS lied to me that it was delivered when it was not. I am unequipped for tomorrow merch-wise. Do they happen to sell any at the game? I'm guessing not but I am hoping they will.

Finally ordered some Reign merch

While I have a Rapinoe T shirt without team or league logos, I don't have any Reign merch and finally decided to rectify that situation.

The jerseys are too rich for my blood even before adding a player name; my NFL and EPL shirts were on sale after/near the end of the season.

I did like the logo t shirt pride variant (reignbow?). I usually wear an XL, and the size description matched some shirts I already have so I didn't want to go up to the 2XL and have it be baggy. I also got the decal in that design (I happen to have a similar decal in standard color scheme for a mens team in another sport)

Also got the Forever Rapinoe trading card pack, I'm a trading card junkie and I missed that one, and $15 is cheaper than any aftermarket price I saw

I don't do scarves in general even though they're popular soccer merch and the Reign hoodies all appeared to be pullovers when I just wear zip-ups

SOUNDER AT HEART: “Seattle Reign still working to diagnose defensive issues”

https://www.sounderatheart.com/2024/06/seattle-reign-looking-to-pinpoint-collective-defensive-issues/?ref=ride-of-the-valkyries-newsletter

I only skimmed the article (will go back and read later), but thought I’d share! Upon first glance, it seems like a lot more transparency than the “we’re inches away” statement we heard for some time. Harvey even talks about why Meza hasn’t been making the bench—which I can get since she seems to be behind Ji and Fishlock. (Still a bit strange to get Ji then draft two attacking midfielders? Though maybe this was a long term plan to also get them to learn from Ji and Fishlock this year and next and be ready for next season / after 2025.)

A part of me also wonders if bringing Sam Laity back would help the defensive woes. Though I mentioned this in the NWSL sub and someone said he would probably be holding out for a head coach position which I get. I’m just thinking about how the Reign’s defense was so good in 2022 and Houston’s defense last year under Laity was also excellent.

Canadian fan interaction

I'm coming down for the Father's Day game this weekend with my girls who are massive CWNT fans (Sinclair, Beckie, Quinn, Huitema) and am wondering what is the best way/timing of getting some interaction with the players? We're seated in Section 105, Row F for the game.

Also, recommendation for a good brunch around the field?

Thanks,

Any New Thoughts?

It’s the hope that kills 😩

But honestly, this whole time I was thinking that they need to bring in offensive stars like Chawinga or Banda. However, I think it’s become more clear that the defense cannot stop bleeding goals. Surely having Quinn back would help a lot, but what should be done with the back four (or now three)? We saw Holmes start and she looked a bit shakey in the first half imo. Cook has not been her best. Huerta was getting cooked against Chawinga. I feel like McClernon may be the only one that I think generally looks good consistently (except against Rodman).

Wondering what others think should be done given that Portland was able to tighten up their defense. (Granted they have Smith up top which I think in general means they don’t need to defend as much, but seems like maybe there is something that can be tweaked in the back line. (Also adding that I think having Quinn back will help a lot but still doesn’t explain why the back four have been in such disarray.)

Goalkeeper Jerseys Fit

I am thinking of getting one of the goalkeeper jerseys. (Go Ivory!) Does anyone here know if the fit is more like the Reflection primary jersey or more like the pre-match top?

I have the Reflection jersey and the pre-match top, both in Medium. The Reflection fits just a little better, so I’m thinking of sizing up for the goalkeeper jersey if it fits like the pre-match.

Thanks in advance!

Reign Content

Yesterday, Coop and Van dropped their first episode of a podcast in which I think they’re going to discuss all things Reign! It’s called “The Cooler Guild.” Here is the link to the 1st episode on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5olIgkBsaaI1hM7m4sgUde?si=RgjNkEgURyqMaS-EzNA0DA

This got me thinking about other sources I look at for Reign related content & wondering where other people go for theirs. Below is my list (from most Reign specific to more general WoSo)!

  • Sounder at Heart: Pretty much the only Reign (and Sounders) specific content. They cover pre-match articles, game day threads, post-match articles, match player ratings, any big news. I feel like this is where I get the most Reign specific information. I really like the match player ratings too.

  • beyond the vaudevillian cane (https://btvc.beehiiv.com): The content is more general WoSo (with a little more on the Spirit), but I really appreciate the passing maps and xG charts provided in his weekly posts/emails. His podcasts, DiasporaUtdPod & HeySpirits, are also a great listen.

  • backheeled, The Equalizer, re-inc: Again more general WoSo content, but there have been interesting articles/content on the Reign on all three. For re-inc, I think the debriefs Tobin Heath has been doing are interesting. She did one on the Cascadia Rivalry. Also for members, I feel like listening to her commentary during a game is always insightful because she addresses some questions in the chat and seems to talk about higher level issues with a team.

  • Alison Gale (@agale137 on Twitter): She makes amazing graphs for NWSL stats that make it easier imo to digest/understand information. Not really specific to the Reign (even though she is a Reign fan), but a great tool to understand trends in the league.

  • Attacking Third: More generally WoSo and I haven’t been listening to their show too much just bc the Reign have been doing poorly this season and I don’t want to hear them talk about it lol.

  • Busy Watching Women’s Soccer on YouTube (https://youtube.com/@busywatchingwomenssoccer?si=Pw62DZSNr2kwL0j5): This is more general WoSo (a bit more on the USWNT), but I highly recommend it if you’re looking to learn more about tactics.

  • The Women’s Game MIB (honorable mention): Definitely the least on the Reign with this platform, but I love Sam Mewis and recommend it anyways. I listen to her podcast episodes every week. She usually releases two per week—one where she gives an overview of all things WoSo and another where she interviews players. I also subscribe to her newsletter which sums up big things in WoSo

I still wish there was on the Reign specifically. I think it would be interesting to hear about things like how the new international players have been slotting in (like Ji and Haz), how people think Emeri is doing, etc. Anywho, I’d love to know what others think of these sources and also if there is anything else out there!

Lumen field promo code?

Hey! Canadian fan looking to come down to watch the Reign vs Thorns game June 13th, couple questions for yall 🙂…

  • Are there any promo codes anyone is willing to share? (The US to CAD conversion and ticketmaster fees is killing me)
  • Best place to park thats not Lumen field? I’m not opposed to a walk or bus/uber in if it will save a few bucks
  • Anything else I should know?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Any words from team to fans about state of affairs?

This season has been rough. I know the players are doing their best and can't imagine how defeated they feel as well.

However, I'm getting frustrated with the lack of acknowledgment and transparency from the Reign.

Portland had 3 or 4 losses in a row and major changes were made and the fans threw a fit.

It's been pretty lethargic on all fronts from the reign from players, coaching staff, GMs and fans.

How can energy be cultivated at this point for the entire organization?

I feel like changes aren't being made to not hurt players feelings

How do we feel about the rest of the season?

This season already not looking good looks worse after tonight So how do y'all feel about the rest of 2024?

I'm inclined to watch less closely to get less frustrated.

I'm thinking of finally going to a Reign home game this season but am afraid the experience will be flat especially by the point I could make that happen. Airfare is much more reasonable if I wait til at least late August, and I'd need some time to get ID paperwork, arrange the time off work, etc.

At least the NWSL doesn't have relegation, but ironically at least a relegation scrap keeps things interesting for teams not making a title run. This I know all too well from following Everton men the past few years, and one reason I don't follow Everton women much is because they're in the midtable gray area of not challenging for CL but not in danger of the drop either.

Could we make a run for one of the last playoff spots? Not at the rate we're going but it's in reach if we turn things around pronto. We're only 4 points and 8 goals out of 8th now, though the Wave have a game in hand (and so do the 7th, 9th and 10th teams)

commentary team?

Hey all, question about Reign games ...

is there a local commentary team for the squad? I don't like the randomness of paramount plus commentary. I actually haven't watched a game in a while but I assume it's like Apple TV where there's a different commentary team each match?

I'm looking for local, regular commentators like what the Sounders have on KJR Radio. Does such a team exist for the Reign? Maybe a radio team?
