Hey yall, I am new to radios. I had just gotten my first pocket radio, and i want to know all there is about them :D
Is there any videos that can tell me all about them?
Thanks!
Do any of the mainstream networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) have dedicated news stations that play continuous headlines? I see NBC’s service was taken on by iHeart Radio and is now 24/7 News. ABC and CBS seem to simulcast their 24/7 video news services, just as NBC does with NBC News Now. CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News have TV simulcasts on SiriusXM. Are there any old-fashioned, non-simulcast radio news sources?
Thanks.
Hey /r/radio! I was wondering how it’s possible I’m receiving BBC Radio 1 when I’m over 500km away from the UK in the Netherlands. As far as I know, FM radio waves don’t travel that far but maybe I’m wrong. I’ve never been able to receive FM radio signals from other countries before so I’m pretty surprised this happened today.
Is anyone able to explain how this is possible? Would be interesting to learn. Thank you!
Lol. Give a listen to hear some profanity on the air.
This might be a silly question but I've noticed that the music on most radio stations is pretty dated. For reference I live in colorado and stations such as 93.3 and cozy 101.1 play the same songs that I remember hearing in 2012-2015 and rarely stray away. Im sure some stations are different but I have trouble finding them (if you know any that play recent music in denver please let me know! perhaps im just ignorant lol). But wouldn't it make sense for them to play new songs to bring in a younger audience/ keep the demographic they do have up to date on the state of music? Is it simply because the current audience likes the dependability of the older music they play?
I was wondering if anyone here knows how a way I could listen to The Box of Delights, a BBC radio show which was first broadcast in 1943. I've had a look to see if I can purchase a CD / Vinyl copy of it but have so far come up empty handed. My granny used to go on about listening to this show as a kid and I think it would be really good for her to hear it again.
Not sure if something like this exists… I was wondering if there are any stations that play music AND jingles, adverts etc from the same era, so it’s like actually tuning into a station from for example the 1980s?
I’m not interested in a modern station that plays music from the 70s, 80s etc - I’m specifically looking for a time capsule sort of vibe
Thanks
I'm wanting to start an online radio station, and I've been looking (maybe not hard enough?) on the web for used audio equipment from radio stations. EBay you never really know if the person is honest and 90% of the time the seller doesn't offer refunds.
To all my radio peeps. Is there a site that specifically deals with used radio station equipment? ****I live in the UK, so as much as I'm appreciative of the response I've gotten. I need links for either the UK or mainland Europe *****
Many thanks,
EDIT: Answer was PowerLine! Thank you!! ** I'm looking for recordings of (or frankly the name of) an 80's/90's pop radio program that was syndicated and came on LPs for radio stations to play. The show always featured positive messages and insights with various songs that went along with the messages. It might have been Christian in nature because I seem to recall it was always played on Sunday mornings and/or Sunday nights. Kiinda like Country Crossroads, but I remember it being more "pop" in nature. I worked at a local station in the early 90s and they had the records on shelves, but I cannot recall the program name. Thanks for any help or memories of the program.
In central CT and tuned my radio to AM for the first time (not counting listening to 1080 wtic) and got 740 CFZM out of Toronto and WGN 720 out of Chicago.
Kind of had fun and looking at maybe purchasing better equipment? This is just a cheesy eBay radio that does Bluetooth, cd, etc. tips? Thanks 👍
I got good reception originally on my after market auto radio. Then my back up camera went out. The aftermarket installer fixed the back up camera, but now reception is seriously worse than before. Here is the kicker; with the kkey turned only on for accessories (windows and radio, no engine) reception is good. But turn on the engine, it goes to sh!!t. Any thoughts? The installers are baffled.
For those interested in low-power FM and/or community radio, I'm trying to get these subreddits rebooted. They were not set as public for some reason, but that's changed, so posting is now open to all.
I'd love to have a few of the smart minds here, if you have time. Thanks!
Do you prefer them over a ferrite antenna? Does it matter how you aim it, say if you want to pick up stations in the Northeast, do you have to set up the wire a certain direction? Do these so called amplified antennas work well with AM? Any other tips?
I caught it at 450 meters (frequency measurements in Russian receivers), I don’t know what they’re broadcasting, it’s almost constant.
European-perspective here.
While we have FM and DAB for a good 10-15 years here, and combi-recievers have reached €20, it worries me that as consumers move to streaming radio, the infrastructure for free, broadcast radio will fall away. When I mean free, I mean, available in an emergency. And when I say emergency, I really only mean local issues such as weather, chemical leaks, fires, power outages, etc. Of course, worse can occur.
How is anyone expected to 'tune in' to streaming radio when 1) there isn't a central app / tuner. 2) you need to have a data contract.
So, are European countries going to support the DAB and/or FM infrastructure for local information transmissions in the future for these scenarios? There must be plans for emergency broadcasting in place, surely?
Any information would be appreciated.
When i was little my grandma had a big radio that picked up AM stations from all around, sometimes even from UK when we were in central europe. Now i'm older and the radio is gone. I bought some book-sized old-school radio on amazon that has AM on it, but no stations are picking up! What am i doing wrong? Is it placed incorrectly? Is the radio antenna too weak? Does the brand of the radio matter? Does size matter? Please help !
From Jharkhand, India.
I was looking for Medium Wave radio stations in my region. From the rooftop, my radio picked up a station from "Dhaka, Bangladesh (500km away from me)" but not from a city which is like 150-200km away from me. I got two stations from Kolkata(400km away from me), one was too clear and one i could barely listen hear anything. I just wanted to know how does it work?
Got removed from playstore. Good app (that didn't record anymore while listening). When reinstalling it noticed it's gone from the playstore. So I'm looking for my boy, Radiodroid2
This is a weird ask from something like this but is there a way to connect your phone to an old FM/AM radio? I just got these really cool headphones from like the '70s and was curious if there's anything I can do 😭
