The basis of this subreddit is simple: a repository for interesting radar or satellite loops.
Basic Rules
- Use a reputable image host.
- Give storm or system details when possible.
- Any animated plot or series of images related to meteorological or climate data is allowed. Please set the flair of your post accordingly once posted.
- Still images are discouraged unless they are significantly impressive.
- YouTube videos are fine if the content within is longer than what can be easily converted to GIF format.

I was wondering why things have been so quiet over here and got a note from someone saying the sub was set to private. I am not sure how that happened, but I finally noticed and fixed it. Sorry about that!

Check out the boundary action from this storm the other day!
if you watch that bottom storm cell it ends up getting spun clockwise once it meets the boundary. it also looks like there was a nice roll cloud that formed as it pushed out

Where can I find a simple radar file of the western USA?
I am looking for a downloadable, frequently updated, royalty free, radar image. Preferably a short loop in a gif, but even a static image would suffice. The file would be downloaded ~15 minutes for display on a website.
The image should cover the western USA. California through Utah would be perfect. I am aware of https://mrms.ncep.noaa.gov/data/RIDGEII/L2/KMTX/, but those files are transparent overlays (not useable) and zipped (might be useable). I am also aware of https://preview-radar.weather.gov/ridge/lite/KMTX_loop.gif (which is mostly Utah), but the "lite" images show something other than rain and snow (reflectivity?) which is what I'm seeking. FWIW, this is for skiers in Utah to see upcoming weather.
