Hi
I recently moved with my family temporarily with my twin infants, my service dog and boyfriend. The house belongs to my grandparents but my dad also lives there.
For context I am not too close to my dad and have kept a careful relationship through my adulthood. He has dealt with substance abuse his whole life and has constantly failed me in important life events. Yesterday I had a performance and was preparing myself in the bathroom. The house has three bathrooms and usually if someone is using one we go to another. I was in the bathroom with a utility cart full of makeup, hair supplies, daily medicine and electronics.
My dad came in and told me to get out or that he would break the bathroom mirror on my face. He followed by saying that it was his house (it’s not) and that he could kick me out if he wanted to. I told him to just use another bathroom and he proceeded to break most of the belongings placed in the cart. He had grabbed the utility cart and thrown it at me. In shock I started to scream and tried to defend myself, which became impossible because he weighs over 300 pounds and I am one year postpartum and weight around 150. He continued to push me down and restrain me. All I could do to try to have my body off of his was to kick, scream and eventually bite him for him to open his hands.
My boyfriend took my kids and called 911 immediately. The police took about seven hours to arrive and my dad had already left to a basketball game.
My boyfriend and I had an emergency bag almost prepared just in case we needed to leave because he had been saying he would off us or beat us up.
My grandparents kicked us out once they found out the police was called and left us literally on the street with the children even through rain. My dad, grandma and brother decided to also go to the police and give “their versions”. The only issue I feel about that is that my grandma and brother were not at the beginning of the incident. I had talked to my grandma after the incident but she states that my dad did not kill me for me to call the police or act this way.
Now they’re (grandma and dad) blaming me for the attack and the police does not want to investigate because they said majority wins. They have not interviewed the only person who was at the start of the event and called 911, my boyfriend.
I went to get a protection order and a permit to get my babies belongings and the judge stated she wanted my dad investigated for aggression, disorderly conduct and threats. She gave me a paper that said so and advice me to give it to the police, which is why I called the station to follow through. A police man answered and told me essentially that they did not want to investigate and that majority wins.
It just doesn’t make sense why my boyfriend called 911 if I was the aggressor and why I would also call 911 after out of fear of death if I was the aggressor. It also doesn’t make sense to me how they cannot want and ask for any evidence of my bruises and broken belongings or interview the only person who was from beginning to end during the incidence.
I know my grandma and brother are going to lie because they told me they were kicking me out because they didn’t want police involved… How can I ask the police to follow through?
My kids and I are homeless because of this and the physical and mental pain I have is almost unbearable. I don’t think it’s fair to just pretend it didn’t happen and have my family speak for me. They’ve already started calling family members and have been telling people I beat up my dad.
In less than a day I became homeless, harassed and beaten up. What should I do?
Hi,
So I've been lurking here for a while, just reading the posts on news and what not. Finding it pretty informative about the best policing practices and that sort of thing. Now, I've had a question for a while, and am hoping that y'all can provide your perspective/understanding of why things are the way they are.
Title's kinda long, but I think it sums up the question pretty well. As someone who lives in a big city (NYC), I see a lot of commentary about how the police shouldn't pursue because of the risk to the wider population. In your experience, is this risk avoidable? Could, for example, surveillance cameras or GPS trackers be used to track down the offending vehicle without a lights and sirens pursuit? I'm sure some cities have no pursuit policies. Do those work, and if not, could they be tweaked to be more effective? Or are they just doomed policies that are only implemented for optics.
Really interested in understanding this topic better!
I've been thinking about getting on at my local PD lately, so I was wondering what made you guys want to be a Leo.
Was visiting NYC back in May and was able to capture these videos in SoHo.
According to the US Marshals:
A 19 year old male committed an execution style killing on a 16 year boy who was riding his bike after leavening school at 2:30pm, he was intercepted by a small group of individuals, a dispute lead to boy being shot in the head twice and in the leg, the killer and the group he was with then fled the scene of citi bikes.
The 19 year old was arrested 10 days later by US marshals in Harlem.
Hey everyone,
I recently got disqualified from LAPD for immaturity (previous drug use/underage drug+alcohol use). I’m currently applying for SFPD, I know SFPD is more lenient on drug use. I hit the 3.5 year mark on previous drug use etc which seemed to pass their requirements on that. Anyone know if my disqualification with LAPD would affect my chances at SFPD?
Please reach out if you have personal experience with a similar situation or know anything about this!
Over the years, I've heard cops ask people on traffic stops, "Do you have any guns, knives, or bombs..." People have said yes to guns and knives before and gotten them made safe for the traffic stop. However, what would an officer do if someone says yes to having a bomb on them? Would they get treated as if they were actively pointing another weapon because of how destructive those things can be? What should that person expect? I imagine it would be nerves for that person at best.

I just recently bought a Guardian Warrior Solutions Bang Hanger after trying many other attachments and it is mind blowing.
I started with the Safariland UBL, tried all 3 lengths, and was horribly uncomfortable. The longest UBL was the best for my draw (my arms are insanely long for my height), but the second I sat in a car the top of the UBL would dig into my side. First few years of my career I figured this is just something everyone deals with and gets used to. I started having horrible nerve pain in my right hip that would shoot down my right leg and in my lower back. Figured I should try something else so I moved to the drop flex adapter from Safariland. This helped quite a bit, but due to the curved points that sat above the belt line, I continued having bad nerve pain in the car after about 30 minutes.
This continued for about 8 years. This year I lost about 20LBS and lost all my “padding” on my hip. The pain got so bad that I would have to call out from work and considered having to go to a desk job. Heard a lot of good things about the True North Concepts MHA. Gave that a shot and while it helped a lot, it was so rigid that some of my pain continued, especially from the squared aluminum that sat above the belt line.
Finally heard about the bang hanger and decided to give it a chance. First shift I had it on I about cried. Nothing sticks above my belt (molle belt), it’s slightly flexible and slowly molds to the curve of your hip, but it’s stiff enough that it completely supports the weight of the gun. I barely feel my gun on my hip, and my gun isn’t light (Walther PDP pro, aimpoint acro, aluminum magwell, 18 round mag with aluminum baseplate). First day I left from the house I thought I forgot my gun. Let a couple of guys at my PD try my belt on and they were as blown away as I was.
I’m sure I sound like a shill, but I’m just insanely happy that I can comfortably sit in a car to type reports again. So if you have hip/nerve issues from your holster and your Department will let you try it, give it a shot.
Looking to get a range bag for my LEO husband. Any good recommendations?
Hi! My fiance is considering joining the police academy in our area since I brought it up to her a while ago, and I think she would be absolutely amazing at this job. She is very level headed, intelligent, open minded, loyal, and emotionally/physically strong.
However, about 3 years ago she had to go inpatient for mental health reasons revolving around getting her medications sorted out at a faster rate, not for any attempts on harming herself. She is still on a few medications for mental health, and sees a therapist regularly, but is completely stable and healthy (mentally and physically).
My questions is this, would this hinder her in anyway when it comes to the academy or getting hired? I know she will have to complete a psych screening and I want her to be as prepared as possible.
If anyone has had any experience in this area, I’d love to hear how it’s impacted you, or if you have any tips for her!
Also!!! We are a lesbian couple, and if there are any LGBTQ people here, I’d love to hear your experience in the field (especially women!). We live in a relatively small, very safe town if that provides any insight!
Thank you so much in advance!
Hey ya'll
Just wrote the APCAT and failed by one question. No big deal, I can try again in a month.
I know I lost marks in the Judgement portion, but I'm not entirely sure how to study for that. I am from oil and gas and I figure my situational awareness and emergency decision making is pretty good. However during practice exams that didn't seem to be the case.
If anyone has any guidance on how to prep for judgement questions I'd be much appreciative.
Thanks in advance!
Any final tips for the academy are welcome!
Let’s say I score meh-good on the test 80s-90s and I’m in the middle or little high what are the chances you actually get a invite to the academy like I was looking at last year’s eligibility list and It was about 8000+ names and I know that’s a total of all municipal applicants and some take the town job but that still leaves couple thousand people what are the chances you do get a invite that year and not years down road with all those people. Hope that made sense.
My husband has been an officer for 2 years. Today he was placed on paid administrative leave due to an issue with a call. He is very stressed and I am wondering how common this is/isnt. They told him the investigation could take weeks. This is the first time he has been in any kind of trouble.
So I applied for a department in a mid size city of about 40k residents in central KY back in August. This is my first time applying to a department. So far I’ve taken the civil service test, PT test, done my suitability screening, panel interview and polygraph and passed all. I’m now in line behind several lateral candidates to get my background investigation done and was told once they got done processing them they would get to me and once they got to me my background investigation would then take 4-6 weeks. I was told all of this on Nov 4th. It’s been a while and I haven’t heard anything else from the recruiting officer, I’m starting to wonder if I’ve been forgotten. Should I contact the recruiting officer or just continue to wait?
For anyone who is not well-versed in the case,
On August 26, 2017, Trooper Bessner and his partner were patrolling the most violent area of the east-side of Detroit, known colloquially as the “Red Zone.”
As they patrolled, they observed an ATV in a 25 MPH zone doing wheelies and driving recklessly at a high rate of speed. The ATV sped toward their patrol car head-on in the middle of the street, very nearly colliding with them before veering at the last moment and turning onto another street.
They then activated their emergency lights and siren, which the ATV driver disregarded, and began to pursue the fleeing ATV. During the pursuit, Trooper Bessner was forced to make a split-second decision and, fearing for his life, deployed his Taser. The ATV crashed and the driver suffered severe injury. Trooper Bessner and his partner then immediately began administering emergency medical aid. However, the ATV driver tragically succumbed to his injuries in the ambulance en route to hospital.
The prosecutor’s office charged him with one count of Second Degree Murder and two counts of Involuntary Manslaughter and a 1 million dollar bond.
Latest update.
Mark Bessner was convicted and sentenced to 5-15 years in prison in 2022 5/2/24- Bressner was paroled in March
For anyone who does not deal with Wayne County, they are known in Michigan to give probation for murder, and have extremely low bonds.
I've seen this and haven't found anything on here about it.
Now IMO, why tf are there 4-5 people standing around in the middle of the road with no crosswalks at night? Seriously, I've watched this video 4 times and I couldn't see them till it was way too late.
So what's everyone's perspective on this?
Got my email for my written.

Critical Incident Video Release Officer Involved Shooting on October 26, 2024
At 5:20 pm on October 26, 2024, officers from the Fresno Police Department’s Southeast Policing District responded to a two-round ShotSpotter activation in the 3700 block of East Platt Avenue.
As officers were investigating the ShotSpotter call and searching the area for evidence and witnesses, a Fresno Police sergeant was parked in his marked patrol vehicle along the east curb of South Seventh Street, just south of East Verrue Avenue. A blue Nissan Frontier, driven by 40-year-old Andy Morales, approached the sergeant as he sat in his patrol car.
Morales pulled up next to the sergeant and suddenly fired 10 rounds at him from an AR-type pistol. Multiple rounds fired by Morales struck the driver-side door and the engine compartment of the patrol car. Bullets penetrated the door, and the sergeant was shot twice in the left thigh and once in the right thigh.
After firing at the sergeant, Morales drove southbound on Seventh Street. Despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, the sergeant made a U-turn and initiated a pursuit. Morales drove east on Platt Avenue then turned south onto Eighth Street. After turning onto Eighth Street, Morales maneuvered his vehicle towards a fence on the west side of the street then jumped out of it as the vehicle continued moving.
Once out of his vehicle, Morales began firing at the sergeant, using his vehicle as cover and taking prone positions as he repeatedly fired at the sergeant. The Sergeant returned fire, engaging in a gunfight that lasted over a minute.
Assisting officers arrived and two officers fired their service weapons at Morales. Morales was struck by the officer’s gunfire. After Morales was down, the sergeant requested two ambulances, one for Morales and one for himself.
A man, later identified as Morales’ father, approached Morales before he was secured by officers. The officers quickly detained the father and escorted him away from the scene.
Assisting officers provided medical aid to both the sergeant and Morales until EMS responded and transported them to the hospital. Morales was pronounced deceased a short time later at the hospital.
Following the shooting, officers returned to the original ShotSpotter location on Platt Avenue and made entry into the home to check for victims. Inside the home, they found a man dead in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds and a gunshot wound to the chest. It was later determined that Morales and the victim both resided in the home. A large hunting knife was found in Morales’ bedroom and he was identified as the suspect in the homicide.
From the scene, officers recovered Morales’ AR-type pistol with a double stack magazine. It is estimated that Morales fired more than 20 rounds at both locations.
The sergeant was released from the hospital several days later and at the time of this video release is still recovering.
The investigation into this critical incident is ongoing. There will be no additional comments made beyond the release of this video.
This critical incident is being fully investigated, and the finding will be handed over to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office, Internal Affairs and the Office of Independent Review.
Is it better to literally just do the individual tests until you're proficient, or is it better to change up ways to work the muscle groups used to be overall stronger? Weird phrasing I realize. Also, cardio. Is just running on the track at my gym the best way to build endurance or should things like a stair master or rowing machine also work into the routine? I am a 5 times a week gym goer, but I've exclusively just lifted heavy stuff until I could lift heavier stuff until this point.
I recently took my written for the placer county sheriff trainee-on 12/5/24. Was just wondering how long it took people to hear back?
I was also wondering more about the process if I have a decent or good score?
What’s the next step for the physical test?
What kind of things do they ask during the poly or psych?
Any information is much obliged!
I don’t think I have ever heard a cop say “FREEZE” in real life.
