I was driving home earlier, and when I turned the corner, into my street, I passed by a police officer. I figured this was normal, but then as I parked, I saw the cop slowly passing my house, with his bright lights on. I went inside, and I saw from the wondow that the cop circled around and drove by my house one more time, turning on his brights as he went. My gf reminded my that I left my headlights on, so I went to turn them off. At this point, the cop circled around AGAIN, and drove slowly past me, overhead brights on. I opened my car door and I thought I heard the cop say something to me, but it was too quick to be comprehensible. After I went back inside, I saw him drive by a few more times and didn't see him again. Is there a reason that a police officer would behave this way in an official capacity? I'm very confused.
(This is a throwaway account)
I am 23 years old and a fully licensed electrician. I am born and raised here in Ontario but I am Latino and bilingual.
Policing has been a goal of mine since I was a child as they’ve been helpful to me and my family during hard times.
What steps should I take before applying to a municipality police department? I imagine it’s unreasonable to be hired at this young of an age so I don’t mine improving myself until I become of age.
I have 0 volunteer hours but am interested in gaining some. One idea I had was volunteering for a suicide hotline (like kids help phone) or something.
I’m physically fit but not sure what other steps to take.
Hi. I'm not a law enforcement officer in the USA, but I'm curious—do you use large language models like ChatGPT for drafting documents and forming conclusions in criminal cases?
Yeah so I did some reflection this morning with a few of my friends who are out the program who moved on to non LEO things.
So we did a small little party and we shared some videos and shared our report writing, and our faults.
•We got taught how to march, and walking in formation.
•Report writing
•Aphrension of a suspect and writing a ticket
•crowd control in parades which honestly one of the scariest things to do in 2019 mainly because of all the mass shootings we had that made headlines in 2019. So we all had to keep eyes on folks who wanted to do harm, so I’m guessing we were trained in that stuff as well.
•Knowing how to give first aid to a person who’s been shot in a mass casualty inncident and how to carry them out.
•how to socialize with people a bit more. (Yeah I was not a social butterfly but more of a shy introvert starting into the program.)
•Know to have command presence and presence of Authority
•how to keep you’re head in major events like Parades and Festivals.
•expect the unexpected. (My first year as an explorer at our spring festival someone left a suspicious package over at the Ferris wheel. LST, most of us thought it was a bomb and it was camera equipment.)
•Lastly was not to be an asshole and not every officer is right.
Yup I was dumbass that would be ignorant. The Amber Guyger case I defended that and got a really strong ass chewing and rightfully one at that.
So yeah the program is worth it for anyone that’s wanting to be in LEO.
I would turn back time and do it all over again.
Happens to be the arrest on a traffic stop of an FBI 10 most wanted and of course that's interesting and a great thing, thought the humming was also interesting, I do that too while waiting for things, have seen others do it as well. https://youtu.be/escOHyJ4axk?t=429 Suppose for me it helps keep me entertained while waiting rather than just sitting there silent
…what penalty am I looking at?
Ticket? Arrest? Impound? Tax, tags, and registration are all fine and I’m insured, but the past three times in a row someone has taken me to the DMV in Statesville, we are told “no more driving tests today”. That’s arriving at various times. I can’t have my friend drive me anymore.
I have an expired Georgia license, by a few years. I was relocated from Asheville after the floods destroyed my home and job. I was given a vehicle by a local charity who gives to vet.
Unfortunately now the only way that I can get there every day to keep checking I have to drive it.
Assuming I already know “you definitely shouldn’t do that”, what am I looking at if pulled over?
Thanks!
For those of you in corrections, how does your work differ between Juvenile facilities and Adult facilities. Do you find kids harder to manage than adults, how does your average day look. Not many posts that talk about juvenile detention centers or juvenile corrections in general so though I'd ask
Anyone know anything about TXDPS? So, I noticed upon graduation you’re assigned a “duty station.” Where I live (DFW), there’s like at least 10+ of those (some being DMVs). So my question is, say I graduated and was assigned to a duty station in Fort Worth, would I still be able to work in other counties within Dallas district, like Tyler per say, even though my station would be almost 2 hours away?
Just curious.. graduate college this semester and was looking into being a Trooper, just not sure how jurisdictions work.
Maybe you see that with most people who commit crimes, I would think most people have potential if they don't orient in the wrong way.
Im going to the police academy later this year, and I was told they got a new post test and its very hard, apparantly it has a high fail rate. Has anybody taken the new one?? If so is there a study guide anywhere? I found 1 on quizlet but not sure if its accurate to whats actually on the test
We all know people make mistakes when going thru field training but whats the wildest mistake/ fuckup you witnessed or heard a rookie do that made you ponder their competence? For example I personally heard a story about a dude during stage 2 of ft ask a dv victim "did you enjoy it when he threw you head first into the glass table?" As she was crying and bleeding from her face with glass shards sticking out....
Like really bad fuckups not just a simple mistake of forgetting paperwork.
This coin was designed by me for a Deputy's K9 unit. I also designed patches for this unit. The instructions were to include a dog scull leaning over a treasure chest filled with illicit paraphernalia, and the words 'dope pirate' somewhere. I would appreciate the community's feedback/ critiques on the design. Tell it all, and tell it true
https://www.wndu.com/2025/01/28/watch-live-3-dead-2-officers-wounded-shooting-martins-elkhart/
Hi all. Never posted here before, not LE. Regardless, this event happened tonight in a town right next to mine. Reading the first hand accounts of what went down on my local facebook news posts has really shaken me up. Mad man essentially looses his cool and shoots a store associate and a fellow bystander who tried to calm him down. Cops show up and shootout ensues. Bad guy lost. Sadly tho 2 officers were wounded but according to many comments on the news posts they were shot but in stable condition thankfully. I guess I just wanna say I’m grateful you guys do this. A supermarket I’ve been to many times turned into a freakin nightmare and the Elkhart PD showed up very quickly and did what they are trained to do. And for that I am grateful.
I see on some places that they carry a Sig Sauer P320, but others that say a G17. And what about the rifle?
In honor of u/countaction ‘s post here is a pretty typical tweaker submission to the mod queue. Cut and pasted bc I am too damn lazy to edit out the personal details on my phone.

Being falsely accused of a sales and transportation of drugs
Ok so my boyfriend and I are being charged for sells and transportation here in ca . So we get pulled over cause our vehicle matched a description of some other MFS they were looking for but anyways we get pulled over when We were on our way home from shopping at Walmart and the cop asked to search and because my boyfriend is on summary we had to let them search and we didn't have anything to hide anyways so the search began . We were both detained in the back of the cop car while they searched . The female cop reaches behind the driver seat and pulls out a ziplock bag of detergent and sets it on the hood and then the male cops pulls out one of my Walmart bagsof items I just purchased and sets it on the hood , he reached in the bag and grabs our a scale I just purchased so I could weigh my marijuana when I buy it from the dispensary .
Anyways the female cops comes and asks us if we use fentanyl and we both tell her no why and she replied back well that's a lot of fetnyl to have for 2 people that say they don't use and then she says so you sell fetnyl and we said no what are you talking about where did you find fetnyl and she said it was behind the driver seat and we both laughed and said it's fucking laundry detergent if you think it's fentanyl let's get rid of this accusation and test it right now . The cop then replied that she didn't have the right equipment to test it and that she would have someone else test it and then they asked if you don't sell it then why do you have a scale which I told them I bought it to weigh my marijuana .
Anyways we get cited and released . We go to court and find out they had the head of #### which is ###### counties drug task force head agent roper test it and his conclusion it was presumptively fentanyl. This agent mind you had been in raids at my boyfriend's home years ago when he used to use meth but he has been clean for bout 8 years anyways the agent hates my old man . I have to let that be known because when we asked the courts to send the supposedly fetnayl to the labs it came back positive for fentanyl . Im telling you now that me or my boyfriend fuck around with that dumb shit it 100% was laundry detergent .
We did a little digging on this agent and found out this isn't the only time this type of shit has happened with this cop and was told by a out of town attorney that this towns law enforcement likes to retailate against anyone who ttys to smut any of them up . So I'm wanting to know what the hell should I do , I don't have enough money for a actual attorney and have been looking for one probono so if anyone knows of a attorney in northern California that would be interested in working my case that would be awesome. How do we get this dirty cop busted because what he is doing is wrong and taking years from people's lives that are innocent just because he has the upper hand and doesn't like an individual

We all know tweakers come up with the wildest lie/stories, (not leo but have applied recently) where I grew up we had a bunch of tweakers. I always had fun imagining the stuff they came up with, like how methany was the second coming of Jesus christ but also a cia agent that's working undercover stopping reptilian crimes to save earth. Some of these stories would make the craziest comic book/ movie ever. Do you guys do the same in imagining these stories as real or have any unique tweaker stories that make you laugh?
I hadn’t seen a friend in a while, and he mentioned he works for the NYPD. Later on, I found out about this site called 50-a.org that shows how much officers make.
The friend I just saw is making around $70k, but I remember another friend who’s been with the NYPD since 2019, and according to the site, they’re making $175k! 🤯
Does anyone know how this works? Is it seniority, overtime, or something else? Can officers really make $150k+?
I’m honestly starting to think about becoming an officer since I’ve always been passionate about serving my community. Any current or former officers here who can share some insight?
Sorry if this is something posted here all the time. Looking for some advice, tips, etc.
Long story short, after 8 months I got in with my desired agency in a city out of state. This particular agency has a reputation for being tough and for having top tier training within the state. Not “paramilitary”, we go home every night.
Despite being super excited to have this opportunity, I am SUPER nervous. We have been doing PT at the academy twice a week as a class during pre-academy. I went in as somebody who exercises regularly and been running consistently several times per week for the last 4 months in preparation as I was typically a weight lifter, not big on running. However, these sessions are tough despite my prep. I am not in front or the back of the pack but somewhere in the middle-ish. I have since added even more running sessions during the week and I am eating clean. Hoping it helps.
Met some good people in the class but there are certainly some that are more immature or prone to drama that I am afraid will cause us problems. Theres already a rumor the staff is not fond of the class.
I guess my biggest concerns are the PT, EVOC and Redman scenario. Some folks in my class are recycles from injury from Redman alone. Generally, I am good with academics, I know this is different from college but I finished my degree with a 4.0 GPA. I have no military experience so everything including formations are new to me. I meet with classmates as often as I can to PT on our own time.
I know this is what I have always wanted, I left my previous career of 10 years and went to college to get my degree, finished just before starting the hiring process. I want this more than anything. But definitely having some trouble sleeping some nights due to nerves/overthinking.
I am really excited to learn as much as I can and get on my way to an exciting career.
Any advice or tips? Is it normal to be this nervous? Thanks in advance.

A good man that was ambushed by a total dirtbag.
Stay safe guys and gals.
Oakland PD is looking at loosening its pursuit policy after the Governor called it too restrictive.
Hello everyone! I'm currently writing a book that involves the NYPD and I'm struggling in my research, so I figured I'd come find the experts here.
When a large police force like the NYPD decides to run a sting operation, who is involved in that decision? Who makes the call on when to start and when to end the operation? Who's neck is on the line if something goes wrong?
Any information is helpful! Thanks!
Hi all, my friend and I are exploring the idea of developing advanced lip-reading technology that could analyze video footage to extract speech, even when audio is unavailable or unclear. Think about situations where surveillance footage lacks sound or where someone’s words need to be understood for investigative purposes.
I’d love to hear from law enforcement officers, FBI/DEA agents, private investigators, or anyone in similar fields:
Your input would be incredibly helpful in shaping this idea. Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts and experiences!
