Canon imagePROGRAF Pro-1100 - Solution to Fix Horizontal Banding and/or Faint Lines

I don't know who needs to see this, or if anyone even will see it, but as the title says I found a solution to an infuriating problem I was struggling with on the Pro-1100! I just want to put this out on the internet so someone like me who is desperately searching and frustrated with their expensive printer might find this post and be able to fix their problem too haha.

The initial setup went fine (bit more involved than your typical printer). My first print was a datacolor test image on the included luster paper and it came out amazing! It blew me away. So then I wanted to try out one of my own pictures on much nicer Hahnemuhle paper (several types). I went through the process of getting the ICC profiles and the AM1X profiles for each paper, did all the driver updating, set everything to highest quality ... And it looked terrible ... Repeatedly.

My prints had severe horizontal banding across the image, worse at the first and last 2 inches of paper, as well as faint horizontal lines in some darker parts of the image. I found online that Canon recommended enabling unidirectional printing to fix the banding, and that along with using the manual feed helped with the larger bands! ... But not with the faint lines.

So, if you have faint lines, at consistent spacing across the print, these are the steps to fix it!

  1. Nozzle check, just to be sure it's not the obvious things.
  2. Manual print head alignment. Use a magnifying glass, really be thorough and don't trust the auto alignment. I did this step about 3 times. Eventually your numbers should all be right around 10.
  3. Now this is the step I couldn't find suggested anywhere, and the key is feed rate calibration. In the Media Configuration Tool, install the AM1X profile for the paper you want, then once that's installed and sent to your printer, load a sheet of that paper type in your printer, go back into the software again, and click "edit custom paper". The most important thing there is the feed rate calibration which will be specific to your printer! Also if you're using a ~300 gsm paper, you'll want to set you print head height to medium-high. If you're printing on something thicker, then use high. And lastly assign the ICC profile to the AM1X configuration. Canon does have a guide on this tool, but I didn't see them suggest it as a way to fix banding.

This should hopefully fix your problem! After doing these steps I'm finally getting perfect prints. I'm not sure if this is obvious information an experienced printer would have known from the get go, but hopefully someone out there will find this information helpful 🙂

Printer (inkless) Brother or other(s)? ;)

I see a monochrome one is $200 (brother)

and the color one is $399 for a similar model (scanning, copying, etc.)

Is this the best color one - MFC-L3720CDW Wireless Digital Color All-in-One Printer with Laser Quality Output, Copy, Scan, Fax, Duplex,

MFC laser that has the best image quality?

$1200 budget.

I know lasers don’t have the best image quality, but are there any stand outs?

Thanks!

Print Selective Opaque areas on Transparencies? What do I need/Where

Hello! I am looking to do some prints on transparencies. I want to be able to print artwork onto transparencies and be able to select specific parts of the artwork to be opaque so light/transparency doesn't shine through.

I guess this would be similar to spot gloss. What/Where would be the best way to go about doing this or getting it done?

Brother HL-L3230CDW color laser printer - blue splotches when printing

My printer is starting to get blue splotches when printing out documents that have some colors on it (not much)

https://i.imgur.com/6y1sUUA.jpeg

I replaced the toner cartridge and cleaned the roller for that color with a microfiber cloth and alcohol (a few lumps found on the roller)

What causes this, how can I fix it?

Canon Selphy CP1500 White border cutoff when printing a collage

I recently bought a Canon Selphy CP1500. Everytime I add white borders to a collage, it prints the borders perfectly except for one end of the photo where it crops (tears off) before the border begins. I'm using the Canon Selphy Photo Layout App. Does anyone know a fix for this? Thanks.

HL-L2400DWE ecopro

Hey, I just got the HL-L2400DWE printer from Germany. What do you think is the best way to use the EcoPro feature? Can I start using it with the starter cartridge and sign up for EcoPro right away, or should I wait until the starter cartridge is empty? By the way, there's a 6-month trial going on right now.

dilemma Epson EcoTank ITS L14150 vs Brother MFC-J3940DW

hi, I'm interested for small architectural office to purchase one of these 2 printers.

Epson EcoTank ITS L14150

Brother MFC-J3940DW

which one would you recommend?

My priority is A3. I dont need duplex, I'd prefer the print quality over speed (and that it doesnt smudge).

According to descriptions, Brother seems to be the better choice, but I'm interested if there are some hidden bennefits to buying an Epson (except it being a bigger brand)

I dont think I'd be printing more than 1000 Pages per month. (more likely 500)

can anyone testify to brothers build quality? do they come in black color?

Whats a decent budget standalone scanner?

Sorry if this is an inappropriate sub to post this is in, but I couldnt find a subreddit dedicated to scanners themselves.

I recently got gifted a brother HL-L2400DWE which has been working perfectly fine for me, the only caveat being its inability to scan. Now I'd much prefer buying a cheap standalone scanner to use alongside it instead of buying a 2-in-1 solution since I dont need it *that badly*.
Only real set-in-stone requirement being it needs to be able to connect to wifi/ethernet, cba with usb

Looking for suggestions in the sub 50-100€ space (so Region being Germany, Europe).

thank you all in advance

Ricoh MP6503 - Job Separator Page

Hi to all that configure Ricoh printers

Want to know if it is possible - on the printer - to enable a job separator page.

I see an on/off setting under Printer:Basic Settings - but I have know idea what it does, as it does not print anything.

I was hopping to have the printer automatically print a page with the job name etc so you can see who the print job belongs to.

It appears you can configure it in the print driver, but I really don't want to have to visit every PC :-)

Thanks for your help.

Mid office printer suggestions: Lease bill is painful

Budget season and I'm doing the math. For what we pay for our lease on a Konica c659 printer we could have purchased it twice over (used) and had toner to spare.

I'm considering switching from a lease to owning the machine. What would you buy for a smallish office (say 15 people use the thing).

There are a few things to consider:

We run a couple of events at which time the machine goes from "daily printer" to "pumping out a decent number of full color 11x17 documents"

Requirements:

Drivers work on both Windows and Mac

Scan-To-Email

Scan-To-Folder

8.5x11, 11x14, 11x17

Color

Duplex

(Nice but not required: Folder, Stapler)

We're a smaller non-profit so budgets are tight - buying a lightly-used machine is on the table.

TIA for any advice. If I missed any important details, LMK

Color Laser Printer with relatively inexpensive refills? 2024

Hello! I have a HP LaserJet Pro 200 color m251nw that is finally on it's last legs after about 8 years of daily heavy use. I loved the color accuracy on this thing (printouts of t-shirt designs and logos were the primary use) and relatively inexpensive knock off 131A toner cartridges ($60-80 for a set of all four). I liked that I could turn off the low ink warnings and run my cartridges dry.

What would the next move be? Must have:

-- 20+ ppm (occasionally printing large documents over 60+ pages)
-- relatively inexpensive refills
-- small-ish size
-- laser quality/nice glossy prints with good color accuracy

I am not loyal to HP by any means. TIA

Epson ecotank questions

Just bought an epson printer (the 2851 version) to print my art for my small business.

I downloaded the app that epson recommended me to use but the thing is that its really frustrating to use because im using my ipad to print stuff, and i really cant afford a subscription from adobe illustrator or photoshop rn.

The prints also come out as wrong sizes that i wanted🥲

Does anyone have any recommendations for softwares or apps that would allow me to size up and edit the print before printing it?

Some app that wouldnt be so frustrating as all these epson apps are.

ive checked the printers settings and they should be okay.

I think part of the problem is also that i dont have a really good paper. So im gonna get better type of paper soon.

¿Does MFCL8390CDW or similar brother laser blocks third party cartridges?

I would like to know the current status with MFCL8390CDW or similar Brother laser printers regarding the use of after-market toner cartridges.

Are they locked? I am considering going straight to color laser and buy one in a few weeks and I am concerned.

I have read about some models that received an upgrade, and it seems that it is not easy to block updates unless you isolate yourself from the internet. And it would have that new firmware from factory.

This printer uses TN423 cartridged and I can see they are quite cheap, I currently have a "free" CP1515N but fails for +15 pages prints, my alternative would be to buy a second hand ADF scanner and stay with it.

I was planning for inkjet with refillable cartridges or tank but sometimes I just don't print for a month, and sometimes printheads are a pain.

Is Canon Pixma G1010 worth it for colored printing?

I'm planning to buy a budget friendly printer that has high quality colored printing. But I'm hesitant because G1010 uses only pigment ink for black and dye ink in other colors. Btw, I'm gonna make memo pads, sticky notes, etc.

p-touch editor keeps forgetting my database fields.

I just opened up P-touch for the first time in about a month, and... all of my templates needed to be recreated because P-touch forgot where the database fields were mapped to.
Why does this happen?

FYI: When setting up, I import database (excel sheet). I link all my database fields within one text box (I'm printing address labels).
I link each field by highlighting the piece of text that represents where the field belongs and then going Insert > Database fields

Any 3rd party toner for Epson/HP that also works on Brother?

My boss bought a printer a long time ago (Brother TN1050) and she never buys the toner replacement herself. I can take money from the store to buy things that sell around here if we need them. In a store really close they sell toners for HP and Epson, and I think they are 3rd party because they are really cheap. By any chance they can also work for the Brother printer? That was the only solution that come in mind. It's been 3 months that im asking for new toners cause we are out of ink and she never buys one. Thank you in advance.

Prints come out blurry from nee computer

I recently got a new computer and it prints blurry on my ecotank ET-2850 printer.

My new computer is a Rog Strix on windows 11. It doesn't seem to have any issues besides the printing thing.

The old computer I was using (a rog too, though an older model) is on windows 10.

I am using the newest version of the epson driver on both of them (v3.01.00.00). I am also using the same paper, the same files, and the exact same settings, however the prints from my windows 11 always come out slightly less good quality and slightly more blurry than the ones from my other computer.

I do have a friend who has the same printer model as I, and their computer is also a windows 11 rog. The prints sent from their computer are perfect.

I have tried resetting the printer, the computer, the driver, do every possible maintenance check and called the espon service numerous times, but they don't seem to have any clue.

I am at a loss and as an illustrator this is a big issue for me.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read!

windows printing extremely slow

I am working on Windows 10 and recently bought an HP DeskJet 2810e.

I had an epson printer which didn't have any issues.

But i'm pretty sure it's windows problem. It takes me 5 minutes to print off an excel sheet. The ink cartridge is performing 1 stroke every 30 seconds.

If I perform the printing task on my iphone, it works normal.

I have encounter the same issue before with an epson printer. I just don't know how to fix. any ideas?
