is it possible to use my laptop as a third monitor in my pc setup?

I have a desktop pc that is connect to two monitors
I have a separate laptop that I want to use connect to the desktop pc.

Main goals

- additional monitor from laptop

- touch pad and keyboard usage from laptop

I basically want to use my laptop as an aditional screen + keyboard + mouse input with my desktop pc as the primary system.

is this possible or would I just need to connect my screens to my laptop and use the laptop hardware to power the setup?

edit. I've seen software solutions but they all seem to have a bit of latency or behind a paywall. Is there a hardware solution?

looking for a monitor mount

Hello,

I'm trying to find a monitor mount to maximize the space on my small desk. It can be a simple, single pole mount, or even one that can hold a laptop next to the monitor would be nice. The issue is I use the LOMMARP Ikea desk and it has an integrated rail that goes around it making it unlikely to accept a normal clamp mount or grommet mount. Is anyone aware of a third option? I've seen some that just use a relatively flat foot but I'd like to see if there is anything else out there before I settle on that and I'm not finding much.

Thanks

What are the best laptops for student?

Hello everyone,

I have a younger brother who is taking his university entrance exam this year, and I’m planning to buy him a laptop. My budget is around $1200. Since he’s studying the same major as me (Automation Engineering), I know from experience that he’ll need a large SSD and plenty of RAM to avoid frequent upgrades (at least 512GB SSD and 16GB RAM in a single slot for future expansion).

A durable LCD screen would be ideal, as he’ll be working in industrial environments, so display quality isn’t a priority. A screen size of at least 14 inches (preferably 15.6 inches) with HD resolution is enough. I also prefer a laptop with multiple USB-A ports to make coding and flashing chips easier.

Battery life isn’t a major concern since he can recharge between classes, but a lightweight laptop would be great for portability. Does anyone have experience or recommendations for a suitable model? Thanks in advance

Looking for a specific USB-C Hub/Dock

TLDR: looking for a usb-c hub/dock, preferably with a long cable (without PD/ or ability to disable PD) that allows me to connect at least one 3440x1440 monitor (USB-C+ or DP1.4), and two USB-A dongles. Of course, more ports are welcome.

Hi all,

I am looking for a specific type of USB-C hub or docking station. The main reason is that I want to get rid of all the cables to make my desk look cleaner.

So for context, I am using a laptop that is connected to an ultrawide monitor (3440x1440; 144hz) through an USB-C to DisplayPort 1.4 cable. I use a wireless mouse and keyboard, which both have dongles that are attached to my monitor. My monitor has 3 downstream USB-A ports, but in order to use them I have to connect my monitor with my laptop through a USB-A cable. I prefer this one cable over 2 dongles attached directly to my laptop. However, an USB-C hub/dock would allow me to connect all my devices on a single port.

My laptop does support USB-C charging, but it does not bypass the battery. This means that regardless of limiting the battery charge limit and power limits, it would continuously charge/discharge (so I've been told). As I want to preserve the battery health of my laptop, I use the DC (barrel) charger that does bypass the battery.

Most USB-C hubs are small dongles with a short cable to connect to a laptop/other device. I don't like the look of it, since it would not really allow me to properly manage the cables. USB-C docking stations are often more suitable to sit on the desk, which allows me to position it such that I can do some proper cable management. The problem however is that most USB-C docks seem to have a connection cable that provide battery charging (PD). For the reasons mentioned above, I prefer to use the DC-charger,

I've been doing some research, but have not been able to find a good match. I also like black and slick designs, but I'm open to anything. So if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it!

Do you have a canvas or framed photo/painting in your workspace you draw for inspiration?

Sorry if this is not the right thread, I could not think of another sub to post this on. I work in a closed office space with no windows. Trying to get inspiration from others.

For those who work in a close office space with no windows or just something you look at occasionally to recharge your mood and find inspiration.

I want to put my laptop in a standing dock or under the desk - how can I easily access the power button?

I’ve seen desktops where a single keyboard key is wired to the top of the desk for easy access to the power button. Is it easy to do this with a laptop? Any other ideas?

Dual screen with built-in speaker

Hi ! I currently have one monitor with built-in audio. Based on the activity, I use either my monitor audio output (e.g. for youtube) or my bluetooth headphone (e.g. working, gaming...). I am looking at options to add a second monitor and a KVM switch. As I want both monitors to be identical, I am looking at the option where I buy a second screen with built-in speaker.

I would like to have both monitors plugged to the KVM switch, plugged to my graphic card. I also plan to plug the USB dongle of the headphone to the KVM switch. KVM switch is involved because I use the same setup personally and for work, but with 2 different computers, so configuring windows is not a solid option.

  • is it possible to have predefined output setup for audio on a KVM switch ? E.g. I output audio to both monitors or to my headphones, without many operations once things are configured.

  • If I manage to output audio to both monitors at once, will there be a significant delay between both outputs ?

Beside the questions, I'll be happy to read about feedback on these ideas, as well as suggestions 😊.

Thank you !

Anyone here with a laptop only setup?

I've got a monitor from work, it's a nice one honestly ( a 27" Legion, 2k 144hz ) but it will obviously won't be _as nice_ as the Macbook screen.

also, the amount of cables is and desk space is just constantly annoying.

i'm thinking of removing everything, and just being a laptop only, maybe with a raiser and a keyboard and mouse. anyone has that setup? i would love to see how can you make those look nicer

Best Aesthetically Pleasing Chair Under $200-help I’m tall

Just got a new wfh job and have a $500 budget. Since I’m a 5’9 F I want to be sure to find a chair that has a high back, arm rest, and is adjustable. Not to sound snobby but I’m also looking for something that doesn’t look like a gamer chair or a classic office chair. I would personally be fine with that typically, but my office space is in my bedroom. Any advice is so appreciated even if it strays away from office chairs I’m also interested in better lighting !

Turned my NAS into a home theater hub, what do y'all think

I've been working on setting up my home theater recently. I use a NAS for all my media storage, and honestly, it’s made everything super convenient. The best part? I can store tons of 4K movies and shows without worrying about running out of space. Anyone else using a NAS for their home theater setup? How's it working out for you?

Do I need a monitor screenbar for more lights?

I've purposely move my desktop facing the wall, and theres two ceiling lights right on top of my desk area

The ceiling lamp are Philips Led bulb with 1020 lumens each, eye comfort labeled, glare reduced, cri 90, no flicker as I point my camera to it with high shutter speed.

I work and play on this desktop, using it for more than 10 hours a day, but I notice my eyes get tired quite often, so I'm thinking maybe it's because my current lightning setup.

First thing I am suspecting is maybe the Xiaomi lightbar is bad, it added more glaring to the screen, so now I'm not hanging it on my monitor, instead I place it beneath my monitor, pointing towards the wall and use it as "backlight"

Now I'm thinking if a better monitor light like BenQ screenbar halo / pro will solve my issue, or maybe I don't even need one because I already had two bright ceiling light on top of my desk?

In most review I see people use screenbar in room that are relatively darker than mine, had no direct light source like a ceiling bulb right on top, so while they need that I'm not sure if I do.

Help?
