Missed this, but on October 11, Universidad Católica and Philadelphia Union loanee Joaquín Torres mutually agreed to terminate their contract. It’s unclear what his next steps will be, as Philadelphia holds a club option for him for 2025. He was on a guaranteed contract for $309,800 in 2024, with a likely raise for 2025.
During his loan with the Chilean club, he made 15 appearances since February 22, amassing a total of 450 minutes.
Worth noting, Universidad Católica underwent a coaching change soon after Torres joined.
We should learn more from the Union soon, as the end-of-season roster decisions announcement looms.

Hope to see people at the match. I was asked for this link to tickets for the game. You can find it on the Union discord.

I don’t make any more off of this and am not affiliated with the club so this is by no means a solicitation.
High Point University has announced a celebration of life to honor Holden Trent on November 3 at 2 p.m. at Vert Stadium in Greensboro, NC.
The university has requested that no media or photography be present at the memorial.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Holden Trent Goal 13 Foundation—an organization established to honor Holden's legacy by supporting other athletes—or to the Holden Trent Soccer Scholarship at High Point University, which will benefit a first-generation player on the HPU Soccer Team who exemplifies leadership and dedication to the sport.

This will be a weekly post. Lets try to keep all of the small impulse post in here. Take a night to digest the game and get your thoughts together, and lets try to keep all the conversation in one place. Please try to refrain from low effort post. They also tend to get reported. They clog up the page, and don't provide good discussions because other post override them.
We are up to 13K users now with 2 active Mods. So report bad behavior so we can see it, we cant read every post and every comment.
We will also bring back the monthly ticket exchange page which will be sticky to the top.

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts recently about players who are out of contract and who we think will re-sign/not re-sign with the club. With Bedoya, Adeniran, maybe McGlynn/Flach, and Mbaizo most likely leaving, who do you guys think would ideally be like-for-like replacements, or just players that would fit the team, whether within MLS or in a different league, for the players who are most likely leaving? I also think a center back is also a position to address. Also, are there any players who will be free agents from other teams that we have a chance at acquiring? I know the club likes to utilize the youth academy, but after this disaster of a season, I could definitely see them splashing some cash during the off-season.
Now that the Fall MLSPA Salary Guide is out, here’s a final look at where the players land in terms of salaries and their progression through contracts (YOY).
Of note, as Todd Lewis (@ItsAToddLife/@FreeKickPod) pointed out, I did not update Andre Blake’s contract, as he is earning more due to his new contract ($919,375 to $981,250 or 6.73%)
Info from MLSPA
The fall update of the MLSPA salary guide is out, and now we have an idea of the salaries of some players who joined after the previous release:
Danley is on $602,100 in guaranteed compensation.
Cavan Sullivan is on $364,000 in guaranteed compensation.
Andrew Rick is on $81,316 in guaranteed compensation.

As I predicted, Wasserman Soccer, Quinn Sullivan’s representatives, confirmed what the Union did not in their press release: Quinn is a U22 signing, meaning his salary counts less against the cap than what he actually earns.
While Quinn's exact earnings are still unknown, for comparison, Brian Gutiérrez of Chicago, who recorded six goals and five assists across all competitions this year, is earning $895,879. Quinn, on the other hand, finished the season with seven goals and ten assists.
Would screenshot, but it won’t let me!
Let’s never forget the commentary from my good friend George Metellus during the Saprissa home match in the CCC:
“The service by Sullivan, I mean… it is more beautiful than Halle Berry in the ’90s.”
What a year it’s been.
It’s also easier to sell players overseas if they’re under contract. Good sign here to start the off season
The departures I list here would total $1,642,325, assuming their salaries stay the same (though they likely won't, so it could save more).
Jack Elliott would be an easy option to pick up, unless he has already signed a contract extension that the club is waiting to announce.
Quinn Sullivan, whom I’ve written plenty about regarding how little he costs the club, has a strong case for a U22 contract and a well-deserved pay bump.
As for Mbaizo, he's an easy decision to keep, as he can step in when needed and be serviceable.
Jamir Berdecio and LeFlore are affordable Union II pieces that I believe will stay.
I welcome your thoughts.
If you're Ernst Tanner, which of the following team options for 2025 do you exercise?
Blake ($919,375) (Sorry, this is no longer valid as his contract was extended through '26 with a team option in '27. Thanks for pointing that out, u/jrno86nunez)
Elliott ($893,750)
Mbaizo ($423,589)
Craig ($172,825)
Real ($171,500)
I didn't list either McGlynn ($262,533) or Quinn Sullivan ($153,500) as those are no brainers, IMHO.
After the defeat, I asked Curtin about the decision not to start Danley, objectively the biggest acquisition this year, in a MUST-win match against FC Cincinnati.
Curtin shared:
"Danley is an incredible player, but with only one day to prepare and get the information, it was tough. The other players who went on international duty didn’t have as many minutes, and there's also the adjustment to the league. It takes time to get used to the players and the uniqueness of MLS. For instance, we can show film of Columbus, but until you play against guys like Cucho, Rossi, and Nagbe in the middle, it’s a new experience.
He'll get more acclimated. He's a fantastic player and will be a great starter for us. But tonight we went with Leon, and we had two offensive options in Jack and Quinn on the bench. It worked for three minutes until Danny got hurt, and then we had to adjust everything. Maybe we could have done a better job finding a result, but Cincy played well too."
Well, I looked at Danley's time with FC Metz for notable games where he went on to play after logging considerable minutes and short rest, and wouldn't you know it, the Haitian faced PSG within three days of playing a full 90, managing the likes of Ugarte, Vitinha, Zaire-Emery, Mbappé, Marco Asensio, and Lucas Hernandez.
Pretty sure he could have handled Kubo, Lucho Acosta, and Nwobodo just fine from the get-go.
"I can answer that pretty simply. I think it’s all connected. I used examples like LAFC and Philadelphia when I talked about this.
The way those teams come out and play is recognizable and repeatable, regardless of who the GM or manager is at the time. During my playing days, our identity at TFC was tied to Greg Vanney. When he left, we tried to adjust to fit Chris Armas' and Ali Curtis' vision. Then it shifted again under Bob.
So, at TFC, what I hope Keith (Pelley) and I can determine is: what is TFC's identity? What will this club stand for, long after we're somewhere else? It’s about creating something recognizable and repeatable, something you can hang your hat on. These are the bigger strategic conversations we’re aiming to have as a club. Does that answer your question?"
Were you asking if the problem is the quick fixes attempted in recent years?
"Well, yeah, in many ways, TFC has taken on the identity of its manager at the time. In 2017, we looked like Greg Vanney’s team. Another year, we looked like Chris Armas’, and another year like Bob Bradley’s."
