I need something COMPLETELY WATERPROOF

I don't care about breathability i just want something that is ACTUALLY 100% waterproof and preferrably a hardshell jacket made out of a pvc sort of material.

Hi I just brought the teva tirra sandals and they are causing me grief at the back of my foot.

The strap keeps causing friction and rips my skin causing my skin to rip/blister.

How do I go about salvaging these shoes

I need to break into them as I’ll be going on a big hike soon. But I can’t keep going both heels look raw atm

Ayacucho mountain peak 3L vs Patagonia Torrentshell 3L

Hi all,

I recently purchased an Ayacucho women’s mountain peak jacket from Cotswold. It’s a very comfy fit and seems like a great waterproof jacket with nice water-resistant zips on the chest and side pockets but I’ve noticed there’s literally no reviews online or even on Reddit. The torrentshell of course has many good reviews.

I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with the Ayacucho jacket, or if I might be better going with the more reputable torrentshell?

I have a mountain equipment rupal as my more heavy duty jacket, so was looking for a waterproof jacket that’s a bit lighter but effective for spring/summer hikes/everyday walks in Ireland.

Safest deet mixture?

Trying to make multiple 3oz bottles of insect repellant for the homeless organization I volunteer for. What’s the most cost effective way to go about this or best way to mix 100% deet to dilute and stretch the contents to help the most I can?

[Mods, if not allowed, please refer me to some good help]

Why don't I feel warm?

I setup my layering system. I have a pure silk baselayer, a pure 260gsm merino wool midlayer, and an Arcteryx Cerium down jacket on top which I've heard is supposed to be a 3 season kind of jacket. And when it's raining I'll put a basic thin waterproof jacket on top. Right now, in my house, when I put all of these things on except for the waterproof, I don't feel warm at all. I feel like I want to be warmer. I am highly sensitive to temperature and I get cold extremely easily. My hands go numb when I'm outside for like 10 minutes. Even still, I thought with the premium materials used, I would feel warm, but I don't. Is it just my specific physiology that I need to account for? Should I wear a third midlayer? I live in Scotland.

Weather pod/tent

Looking for recommendations on weather pods/tents. Our son plays baseball and football and we are constantly out in the weather with our toddler and newborn. I have read horrible reviews from amazon on most of the pods/tents advertised and was looking for some insight from someone who may actually use them. We will need one that fits 3-4 people.

Is pure wool warmer than a wool/polyester blend?

I want to get a jacket mid layer and I have decided that the material needs to contain at least some merino wool and then I will wear a down jacket on top when I need to. I looked and came across a pure wool jacket made from 90% merino and 10% cashmere and it's really cheap. I could buy it but it's thin and I'm wondering about if it would actually be that warm compared to a merino/polyester/elastane blend. Firstly, the blend jacket looks slightly thicker. You can't see bits of light shine through like you can with the pure jacket. Secondly, the actual blend itself might be warmer but idk so that's why I'm asking. Thirdly, it's got an elasticated fit but I'm also not sure if that would make me warmer so I want to know about that too. The blend jacket also has better construction but that's just because it is a more complicated jacket whereas the pure jacket is just a simple knit. But the blend jacket is also more than twice the price. I get cold really really easily so warmth is a primary concern. Which type of construction should I go for?

Wind resistant head protection

I am on shoot in fields and can feel the impact of wind at the end of the day. Is there any wind resistant balaclava/hat you would be able to recommend? Something not necessarily very warm would be best as the weather is getting warmer. Maybe something you could layer in the colder months? Thanks

Where to sell used Patagonia and TNF jackets?

I live in London, UK. As per the title, I do have one Patagonia Calcite Men’s Goretex, one The North Face Men’s Drizzle Jacket and one The North Face Men’s Thermoball eco, all M size, to sell.

All of them original, pretty new and in great conditions, used only a few times. I bought TNF jackets in London and the Patagonia jacket online. All of them are 2018-2019 styles. I’m selling them now because I bought new gear for a Patagonia trip I had in January. What are the best sites where I could sell used gear? Thanks!

Are Salomon shoes actually any good? Recently purchased some XT Pathways and I am very disappointed with the quality.

The lace holes are rubbing on the top of my feet and the lace cover has already ripped.

What about the Helsport Reinsfjell Pro 2?

I cannot find online any review about this tent. Does anyone here have it and can give some impressions/evaluation of it? I’m looking for my first all-season hiking tent and thought this could be a good option

Needing advice on which waxed cotton jacket to buy, not sure on a few details

Looking at buying one of these two coats, but I am not sure which. I was leaning towards the one with the wool lining, as it looks super warm, but I am worried on two fronts. Will it to be warm when doing anything but sitting around, and will it be bad to have the wool been part of the coat if water gets in?

I am not a big time hiker, I usually just do 1 - 2 night camping/hiking trips with about 10 - 15 km walked a day depending on terrain.

Thinking it might be better to stick to a distinct layering system?

PS. I understand the downsides of waxed cotton

UKFettlers

Hi all, I hope this is okay to post here. I've created a sub for people interested in renovating/refurbing/repairing paraffin pressure lamps and stoves, aka "fettling"

r/UKFettlers

https://www.reddit.com/r/t5_b01gtu/s/s9AlAhkwIo

It's not just for those from the UK, but I thought it only fair to put down some kind of geographic location so people know!

Feel free to have a look and join in. I'd like it to be aimed more at the skills and techniques used, rather than buying/selling/valuations. I've added some posts about the lamps I'm currently working on.

Hope you find it interesting, and I'd love to know any feedback you have!
