Hello everyone! Looking for a Christmas gift for my mom in the form of a lever corkscrew. Her rabbit corkscrew had an issue where the not only the plastic worm broke but the action of the screw wasn't actually twisting it. Looking for high-quality, a worm made out of steel and good longevity.
I have a budget of ~$150 USD.
I have this one cashmere shirt that is probably 20 years old. I hand wash it now but it's likely been through the washing machine before. It's in amazing condition. No pilling, not stretched out. But every new piece of cashmere I've had pills immediately, even before washing it. Unfortunately there's no tag on my awesome infallible shirt but was wondering what makes it more durable? Is it possibly blended with something else? It has all the great attributes of cashmere (breathable, doesn't get smelly.)
Gf mentioned she always wanted one so I'd like to get one for her as a stocking stuffer. Ideally something not too expensive, but high quality. Any recrecommendations?
No matter what insoles I get it seems after a few hours of walking my back starts to hurt. Looking for recommendations for comfortable and long lasting walking shoes.
Hi, every year for Christmas I want to buy something special for my sister, bil, niece and nephew. Last year I bought them all umbrellas. This is just a little “extra” gift for the. Any ideas that would fit them all 60F,60M,26M,25F. Thanks I was thinking gloves , we live in so cal
I’m looking for a robe to wear in the mornings to keep warm while making breakfast etc before getting dressed for the day. I’d like to find something soft and warm. I can find 100% cotton sauna robes but those are thin and not so warm.
I would like to find a robe that is thicker and warm and is made of either 100% cotton or cotton and wool, avoiding polyester or nylon etc.
Thank you
My husband often works outside and needs gloves that are warm but still allows him access to using his fingers for fine movements and that don’t fall apart within one season.
Any recommendations for rechargeable tea lights? Live in Sweden so need to be able to buy it here (Europe).
I think often it helps to have information in a structured format, instead of only reddit threads. Maybe the site helps with bifl christmas gift ideas. It is a hobby project and does not include any ads etc. https://bifldb.com
It includes items that were often mentioned here.
Of course this site is far from done. Especially getting high quality images is hard.
Imho often there is a strong US focus in this thread. Thats why I also show the country of origin of products.
I am curious if there are any bifl manufacturers from your home country that are less known that should be added. If you want to, you can add manufacturers and products yourself on bifldb.com At the moment still everyone can add stuff. I created also country specific pages e.g for Austria: https://bifldb.com/countries/AT/
Let me know what you think. What information would you like to see? What features would you like to have?
The header image is created with ChatGPT. I find it pretty hilarious. Could you create a more cliche image?
Settled on a Herman Miller chair after looking at posts in this sub.
Madison seating is having a sale and I’m eyeing the Herman Miller Aeron chair at $449.
https://www.madisonseating.com/attribute/brand/herman-miller/
However, what’s the catch? Why at more than half off? At quick glance, it doesn’t indicate that the chairs are refurbished or used. Should I order or buy from a better source?
(Apologies if this post doesn’t belong here)
Looking for the ultimate khaki pant. Patagonia, Dockers, Carhartt, and Columbia have let me down. I don’t need extra pockets or anything special. Just durable work pants that won’t wear or fade unevenly.
Hey guys,
I'd like some recommendations on a bag I'm looking to buy. I will use it practically everyday so I want it to be somewhere in between a polished office briefcase and a tactical multiuse messenger. I take public transit so it should be waterproof or resistant. I think around the 30L mark is pretty good size. Best I've seen so far is the Black Ember Forge 30. Definitely a little on the rugged side for the office but is great for everything else. It's pushing my budget but if its perfect I can go for the Black Ember. I'm in Canada.
Cooking is one of my biggest hobbies and I'm making a list of equipment I wanna get, any recommendations? Is the Ninja Creami any good? (How about Ninja in general, I kinda also want an airfryer)
If it also helps to know I’m on the shorter side (5’6”) and live in the New York metro area. Thanks folks!
Requesting companies that provide incredible customer service that, although their product might not be BIFL, their customer service will keep you as a customer for life.
I read a post on here about ‘Chewy’ - a pet food company that sends their customers flowers and a card when their pet passes, once notified. I thought this was sweet and definitely shows the company has a heart. Many people in the comments stated that they received the same treatment, and that they were loyal customers. It was mentioned that people signed up for their service because of these endorsements.
Let me know your company recommendations!
Looking for something I can wear with Sketchers or my doc Martin boots. I bought some dickies Dri Tech work socks, and was very impressed that I didn’t get sweaty, or stinky. They never felt wet at the end of the day coming out of my boots. The only downside is they are about a year old and they look kind of ratty and pilled up. Any recommendations for something better?
Hello all, well it's almost winter and I'm going to need some kind of a space heater working from home in our basement. I've never lived somewhere that needed one before so any recommendations would be great! I have cats so pet friendly is a must. no idea is that plays a role in type or anything.
I know not much in this area is considered bifl. However, we need something durable, that can be cleaned regularly, or easily replaceable cushions/covers. ...or is it better to buy something cheap with the intention of replacing it every few years?
I would like some suggestions on BIFL toenail clippers. Preferably things like stainless steel or something else that won't start to rust. Also something that will stay sharp.
Does anyone know of an actual heavy duty car cover that will last? i have one from my father thats like 25 years old that is kind of a heavy duty tarp material and its awesome but its getting worn out, I wish there was a name on it so i could try to see if the company still exists or something similar is still made.
anyway all of the new winter car windshield covers i've looked at locally seem to be made of the same types of material. its similar to the same material tents are made out of and you can tell if it gets freezing rain on it or if you pull on it to hard it will not last so I Am looking for something that is actually "heavy duty" or ruggedly made.
Looking to replace our electric washer and dryer in the next year or two. Seems like nothing is really “good” these days and I wonder how much differences there really are between appliances these days. But, I’d want this investment to last as long as possible.
That being said, anyone have any recommendations for electric washers and dryers that they love? Bonus if stackable but not entirely sold on that idea. Thanks in advance!
In search of BIFL towel recommendations. Once that are soft and won’t pull or have the thread get tattered and worn.
I am looking into getting a vacuum sealer. I was looking at Weston and all the models seemed like they did the same thing. Which one should I get? I don’t mind spending more for a better model. I am a hunter, fisherman, and will be starting to do meat chickens in the future and want a good product that will last. I am willing to pay for a quality product and see that there are a bunch of different models. What is recommended for long term use? It will be used to process deer. Budget $200-$500
Hello everyone,
I'm in the market to buy my parents a printer which lasts long and whose ink is not a scam. I found that you guys really recommend laser printers - especially Brother. During my quick search, I stumbled upon ink tank printers from Brother and Epson, and I'm wondering how good they are, and if the ink is a scam like inkjets. I'd appreciate your inputs.
Yes, most use is black, but I don't want to give up colour completely, if possible. Colour lasers are a bit more expensive, but if they're the only option, I might go for it.
Thanks!
Hello, will be relocating to the US in 3-4 months. What BIFL shoes, clothing, knives items should I buy from Europe that I may not find an equivalent at same price point / quality in the US? Work primarily at office, casual dress culture. Family with 2 kids if that matters. Thank you!
Hello guys, No clue if this is the right sub for this but I currently own a pair of carhartt jeans and I’m very happy with them. But I need a second pair and was wondering if for skater jeans carhartt has good price to value? Because I’m happy with the quality but wondered if 90$ for a pair of jeans is reasonable or if there are brands with the same quality for less money? As I said I’m willing to drop ~100$ but I then want them to last. If that’s the wrong sub please redirect me.
