Ludum Dare: all about the Internet's oldest, longest-running game jam, in which participants develop an entire game in one weekend from scratch.
Please assign your user flair ↑ For example, "Unity Developer," "8-Bit Composer," and "Pixel Artist" are all welcome titles!
Ludum Dare 41: April 20th-23rd, 2018
Ludum Dare 40: December 1-4, 2017
Ludum Dare 39 ended on July 31, 2017
The Ludum Dare is widely considered to be the first game development jam ever hosted in history, originally by Geoff Howland in 2002. It is also the longest running jam, as it has been managed by Mike Kasprzak (@PoV) ever since.
Participants develop games from scratch in one weekend, based on a theme suggested by the community right before the jam begins. Community members then play and rate the games according to several categories:
Overall | Fun | Innovation | Theme |
---|---|---|---|
Graphics | Audio | Humor | Mood |
There are two divisions:
Jam | Compo |
---|---|
Any # of devs in one team, 72 hrs | One person, 48 hrs, must share source code |
See this list of games made entirely (or almost entirely) by one person!

I've scoured the LD site but I can't find the answer. Does Extra end when Compo/Jam voting ends? (for LD55 that's Friday, May 3 at 9pm ET)
Hi everyone! This jam we decided to also make a trailer for our game! I hope yall will like it!

While the game is ludicrously unbalanced (I still haven't managed to beat it lol), it has a wide array of unique and interesting mechanics which you can leverage during combat, and unique ways to beat the bosses that I'm only just discovering. I made all the assets and code from scratch in the 72-hour timespan allotted. If you'd like to hear more about my process and what I learned, you can check out this post:

Thanks for playing!
72 hour game complete! Consume the Countryside is a game about decimating every last tasty crop on screen! Summon swarms of locusts, termites, and aphids to cut down beautiful fruit and veg before the humans get to it! Plays best on itch.io with fullscreen enabled, but please vote on Ludume Dare site!
Hello :) i published yesterday my very first game jam game and it was a great time. But its not only this. It was also the first time i used my own 2D game engine to build a game. My goal was to implement something like an Navigation Mesh with an A* path finding funktion. After i managed to create this within the first day i created also Screen Space Lightning effects and fixed an crucial bug :) in general a great expirience. You can watch my game here

Tough theme for me for some reason, but I managed to publish my 12th Ludum Dare game. Post-Mortem to follow.
This is my first gamejam, but it's also my first game! I had a great time working on this weird ass game

Our first Ludum Dare game, Cardmageddon
Would really appreciate any feedback on it: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/cardmageddon
Introducing a unique twist on Card based games we present Cardmageddon, thrown into a deep dungeon of yore and set in the Mighty Maze, explore and embark on an epic adventure to become the Card Mage. Scattered around the maze collect a myriad of Card based summons to use along your journey. However be warned, as there use comes with a great cost. Strategy must always be considered if you wish to triumph and win back your freedom by collecting every card. Are you ready to journey into the depths and navigate through this Cardmageddon?
What title says. I dont want to only try out web build colleagues games. But also I want to be careful.
Is there a way to control this?
From the beginning, I wanted to do something with moving several characters at once and connecting them with lines.
When I started prototyping my idea, I accidentally set the physics parameters wrong and my prototype figures started moving as if they were driving on ice.
Then something dawned on me and I thought, what if the cultists had to perform the summoning ritual on ice.
This is how Cultists on ICE were created, a game of considerable skill XD
It often happens that this is how the most interesting game mechanics are created.
I’d love to know if you’ve had similar experiences.
This the first time I am taking part in this. It was a lot of fun. Together we created Elemental Summoners. An (half) autobattler with deckbuilding mechanics.
Summon elemental golems on the field to fight your foe or fuse their cards to create stronger combination as each element has pros/const regarding attack, health and attack speed.
After each round you can modify your deck to imrpove it.
I’ve published my game and made a post, but I see neither one showing up on the Ludum Dare site. My game shows up when I click the My Game tab at the top of the screen, but not in the actual games list. Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

My first ever game jam. I saw a post Saturday night, was annoyed that I missed the jam, and said screw it, let me see what I can do. A buddy helped out with music, writing and art, and I'm really happy with how it turned out overall. Wish I had another few hours to polish, but alas, work.
Looking forward to the next!
