hi,
I just purchased a new Shield TV Pro, loaded it with Kodi, pointing to some movie BDMV folders in NAS, but I got errors and failed to play.
Then I installed Kodi on my windows pc and pointed it into the same folders in NAS. I could play them.
Any thoughts
I can see the external hard drive when i want to choose 1 file but when i go to movies->add video->browse-> it does not show my external drive but it does when i click on movies from main menu. I don't understand how to scan from fresh install.
Haven't found a definitive answer ... I have Kodi installed on this device but does it come with an NFS client / support?
Tried multiple ways to connect to NFS v4 share with it ... I'm either missing something in the syntax or no way it'll work. Tried the Services setting to version 4 too. Thanks.
Everytime I add a new show or movie in my library Kodi doesn't show them and It also doesn't fetch information automatically about the show or movie, Most of the time I have to create the .nfo file myself.
Can you guys tell me how can I create NFO file easily or what setting I have to make for KODI auto add my shows to it's library and also fetch the show info on its own.
I have the below settings for my kodi Setup on WIndows 10 :
EDIT: Yes it was the naming convention Movie/TV show folder names should have respective names with year inside parentheses and if possible add the tvdb id inside [] square brackets. Why the downvote though people gets offended easily, Damn. And I appreciate the help of the community got introduced to wiki and found out that I can create the addons of my own so Here I am starting a new journey to make kodi a bit better by contributing but gotta learn the python first. Will notify you guys of my progress. Thanks you all.

I have been trying for days to get Kodi working as I wanted it to and finally succumbed to making a help post.
So I originally made my library work with Jellyfin for Kodi, but it had issues (Like not supporting featurettes), and also randomly 'falling apart on itself.' And then I heard that its possible to use SMB (is this the best method for simple windows file share?) with Kodi, so I immediately dropped Jellyfin for SMB. The videos play, but I can't use Kodi for its main function: presentable movie libraries.
I have multiple movie folders with their own genres, and while it was possible with Jellyfin for Kodi and the quartz skin to use multiple folders, I am having extreme difficulty with making the folders work with Kodi alone.
My main point is:
How to make multiple libraries work with Kodi that only supports one movie folder (seriously guys, it's time for native support)
Preferably use the default skin or a modification of it; I tried others but I don't really like of them, but I will use them if necessary
As seamless as possible, while quartz worked fine with Jellyfin for Kodi, It didn't feel great.
And as for other questions:
Is SMB the most efficient method?
I have a SDR TV, and while 99% of my library is SDR, I have like 4 movies that are HDR, and I can't find any settings for HDR tone-mapping or anything like that in the native skin, but I did find the settings in another skin that can't remember the name of. I feel like it may be on, but it might be not and while the colors aren't grey and ugly, they are a bit dark for my liking.
I tried with one skin to scrape one of the folders in my library (I thought I solved the problem that time), and a lot of my movies have featurettes, but Kodi (or maybe rather Universal Movie Scraper), didn't recognize them, and put them separate from the movies and named them all 'Movie Album Featurettes (1932)' (?). Got any tips to make featurettes work nicely (I would probably figure this one out myself but since I'm here I may as well ask).
Is artwork saved on the device which Kodi is installed on (in my case a Android TV box), or is displayed from a website online? I feel like its the latter, but It would be nice to make sure.
I will link some photos of my library, and I might edit if I have further questions.

Edit: I should re-elaborate what I meant on the genre thing, I know very well that kodi has a genre feature, but i have many different types of comedies, and dont want hallmark comedies mixed with adult comedies, for example. So I went ahead and put all my movies in the folders I believed they should have been. All I need is a way to add a tab next to the movie tab that will go to that folder. If that's not possible (from what I'm reading it seems), then that's fine I guess, but I would have wasted a lot of time on this.
And yes, I will read the wiki more. But I will still wait for more replies.
I should know this.. i thought i did know this.. but it's very obvious that I don't..
I have multiple clients witha MySQL database..
If i was to have 1 single system that was responsible for the library updates and cleans then what files do i need to exist on the systems that do not do library updates from the below :
* sources.xml
* mediasources.xml
* passwords.xml
I know I need advancedsettings.xml but the above files are confusing the hell out of me as to which i need.
I might want to browse the sources from the clients but i will never run a library update or clean from anything except the master..
There is also a mixture of Windows and Linux clients in the mix here.
My aim is to have my headless client do my library updates but right now it's not always picking up tvshows on all my extents and i'm obviously screwing something up.
Edit:
I've always assumed i need the source.xml.. and because of that assumed i need the passwords.xml so that the paths get proper authentication.. i jsut can't seem to find a set of results that prove it either way..
i've also no clue what the mediasources file does compares to the sources file...
I just got a new Fire Stick and installed Kodi today. The app is definitely installed, and I can see it in Manage Installed Applications, but the Kodi icon doesn’t show up—just a generic app icon instead.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to get the actual Kodi logo to appear? I’ve tried restarting the Fire Stick but no luck. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
My brother-in-law has been successfully running Kodi on Windows PCs for a long time. His latest install is Windows 11 Pro 23H2 and an earlier version of Kodi ran successfully (we don't remember the version.)
We're not sure if it was due to updating Kodi to v21.2 or some Windows update, but now, whenever he launches Kodi, it starts and immediately stops making it unusable.
He tried uninstalling v21.2 and installing v21.0 with the same "stop" results. He then uninstalled v21.0 and installed v21.2, again with the same results.
I'd like to COMPLETELY remove all traces of Kodi and try reinstalling the latest version, but I don't know where Kodi stores everything, and I'm not confident that Windows Uninstall removes everything.
Suggestions?
Thanks!
These days no YouTube video add-on opens, it gives an id error, does anyone know how to solve it?
Kodi 19.5 (on recalbox so I'm quite limited to what I can do regarding versions or permissions on files)
Here is my issue. I have an SMB share on my NAS. This has 2 separate users on it. if I create a media source and point it at the IP address and give it the first user/pass great it works. I have access to the videos under that user. Now if I add another completely separate source using SMB, same IP but different user/pass it just logs into the first one. Now bear in mind that if I log into this nas via windows or any other way and use the different credentials I can clearly see different files.
I have even tried adding a completly separate kodi profile and specifying sources and settings to be separate and the same behaviour is happening. I've not even added the first source on this profile. I go to add sources, SMB, IP address, and 2nd user's user/pass and it just logs into the same default source as in the first master profile.
Argh, it's driving me nuts. Can someone either tell me what I'm doing wrong or confirm it's actually a bug/limitation please.
Why Finding Memories (2024) ngl its funny.
I would like to be able to browse my NAS file system and play the files that are there, regardless of whether they are audio or video files.
I have somewhere around 400,000 files comprised of a combination of many different audio and video file types that are not necessarily mutually exclusive, such as mp4, ISO, Blu-ray files, DVD files, etc. Kodi's library functionality is is not capable of organizing this in a meaningful way.
For example I may have the same album and mp3 format as well as CD quality flac, DVD audio, Blu-ray audio, or even a video. If I add all the music to a library Kodi puts all this together and I don't know what I'm playing. The files are already organized in the network file system, so all I want is to not have an arbitrary distinction between videos and music and just be able to browse and play whatever is there just as if you were to click on a file on your computer.
Is there any way to create or modify a browsing category that includes all of the file types so I don't have to exit out of either one when I want to play another file type?
Thank you
When i add one piece to my library it only detects the first season till episode 61
I found a thread that has the same problem explained very good https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=95187
but it didnt get fixed in that threat can someone help me
I just got a Qnap TS-451+ to replace my old basic NAS. I'll be syncing media from my seedbox to the Qnap. I've done all my "management" through just manual drag-and-drop in folders on the old NAS, and I'd like to have it automatically organized so I can use my existing Kodi HTPC to play back content from the Qnap.
Filebot was mentioned in other threads as a Windows tool. Do any other Kodi people have recs for Qnap native utilities that can automatically move content to better organized folders? I don't mind if it's a paid utility, I'm happy to cough up if it saves me having to turn things into a project.
Recent data from similar devices shows that this app may stop working on your device. Tell me what this means pls.
I have a Raspberry Pi on a 1Gbit connection. I'm connecting to a Windows 10 PC SMB share. If I play a video through VLC Player, it plays fine, but on Kodi, it is slow, pixelated, and sometimes gives the source to slow error. It's a new setup, so the software should be up to date.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Hello, I have plex on my tv but i have a lot of issues, like always buffering with high bitrates or transcoding. I recently installed kodi with PlexKodiConnect add-on and it's a lot smoother, but I want to know if there is a way to use the "Watch together" feature of Plex through Kodi. Thanks.
I have 4 TV’s in my house and they each have their own TV Box. Is it possible to put Kodi on a USB drive and copy/paste to each of these boxes instead of going through one by one, using each tv remote and adding Kodi from the tv only?
Like the title says, I am setting up a new install trying to get the weather category to show an (fanart/fullscreen background) image reflecting current conditions. Has this disappeared from Kodi? I been searching around for answers and it doesn't look good, I really liked this feature when I used Kodi before.
I download the kodi app on my Sony tv through the App Store since it’s a Google OS. Thing is sometimes after a few days or weeks it opens and then shows a black screen.
I then have to uninstall and re-install the app which gets annoying.
Anyone else experience this and have a work around?
Looking to finally update after an accidental add-on update broke something with plexkodiconnect.
Was running 19.1 with plexkodiconnect and would ideally like the same setup.
Would a clean install be the best way forward?
Which (stable) omega build that will work with plexkodiconnect on an Nvidia Shield (2019 NOT pro)?
Any thoughts, considerations, issues also appreciated.
A year ago, I bought an 8TB external hard drive to store movies and TV shows using Torrent on my computer. Initially, I formatted it in NTFS, but after encountering issues with media playback, I switched to ExFAT. I tried various solutions such as changing the file formats, using different players, and purchasing program updates, even splitting the drive into two partitions, but the problem persists. The drive seems to have a playback limit, as it only plays a limited number of videos (25-30) at a time, depending on the file size, which has delayed the project of creating a movie collection with my grandfather. I'm looking for experiences or solutions from others who have faced similar issues.
Hi.
I've been using Kore on my phone with Kodi for years.
Recently I noticed the Kore app is no longer fully controlling Kodi. In the video player, I can no longer forward or rewind using the arrow keys. Even the select button is not responding.
Usually this is due to the settings on how the connection to Kodi is made in Kore. There is a TCP and EventServer boxes you can check off and no matter what, the settings don't save.
Is there a separate ting in Kodi that may have changed when I switched themes?
Thanks for your assistance in advance.
Hi guys maybe a silly question but thought I'd ask you guys first. Am I able to download Kodi on my Google pixel phone ? I've tried the usual links but when it goes to install I get a this is not compatible with your device. Could anyone point me in the right direction please, or is it that it can't be done ?. Many thanks chaps :)
Can someone please help?
Up until yesterday, my Andoer MCE remote was working perfectly with my Kodi/Rpi 3B, but last night and today it won't control it at all. I've changed the batteries to no avail. I've changed the USB slot it goes into, but it still doesn't work.
For some reason, though, the remote for my Samsung TV has suddenly started controlling it. This would be OK if it was possible to map the buttons on it, but I can't find a way to bring up the context menu.
I have the keymap editor app downloaded, but can't seem to find the context menu button on there to map. I've read elsewhere that the buttons can't be mapped on a Samsung remote?
Basically, I'd like to remove the Samsung remote from Kodi and get my trusty old Andoer universal remote back working again.
Any ideas?
After update and the databases migration, the System info shows the build being 21.2.0. However the loading screen note and logo is still V20.5. It's the first time with this device that an update has a minor issue.
Title kinda describes it.
But, I use Kodi and some other apps (OnStream for example). But my wife and kids can't figure out navigating those well, so having the standard netflix/disney/hulu/max apps is convenient for them. But there is so much bloatware and advertisements on the firestick that I can't delete its annoying getting around it. Is there an affordable/cheap better alternative to the Firestick Max that's easy for non tech savvvy people like my wife and kids to use?
Not trying to by the Nvidia Shield. Way outta line.
Is there any way to see your saved playlists? I can see my personal created lists just fine, but have a couple of playlists I had saved specifically to watch on my tv and I don't see them anywhere in the addon, or maybe I am missing a setting somewhere that allows these to be seen. Maybe it just isn't possible, in which case I will need to figure out an alternative.
