Lunch for husband ideas?

What is in your rotation for making your husband’s lunch? Do you meal prep it all on the weekend?

My husband is going out to eat several times a week for lunch with coworkers and it’s hurting the budget lol but he gets tired of sandwiches and snacks.

What are some options? I hate to spend an entire weekend just prepping food that gets grosser the longer it sits in the fridge and then he won’t eat it.

I work part time 3:30-8:30 Monday-Thursday so making things a day or two ahead is feasible for me

Favorite Homemaking Hacks

I want to know what homemaking hacks you do that are game changing.

Mine is plastic bins for dry products. I have a small kitchen and it can’t handle overstock of ingredients. Before I had my storage bins, I would always get stuff from the store that we didn’t need. Like, I would think that I needed pasta but there were already 4 bags of pasta just hiding in the back of the pantry. Now, making a list is super easy because I can just look at my clear storage bins and see what I’m low on. It also just makes the kitchen so much more organized and cooking is way easier.

What is your game changing homemaking hack? I would love to get some new ideas to step up my homemaking even more.

How do I clean cat urine out of Ugg slippers?

They’re totally soiled like I think she literally squatted over them and peed into them. Do I soak them in a gentle detergent and vinegar? Idk what to do but they’re totally soiled. They’re the open toe/open back slide slippers. Please help!🙏🏼

first-time host

hi all!

i'll try to keep this brief, but i'm a 22 year old american living & working as an au pair in germany. my best friends from the states are coming to visit me at the end of the month, & they'll be staying with my host family & i for a week. i have my own space, & my friends will be sharing a bed in a spare room in the basement (it's a separate, private space with its own bathroom).

the basement has just been remodeled, so at the moment is pretty bare— the spare room has a bed & the bathroom has a shower with toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, & mouthwash) & that's all.

i am responsible for dressing the bed, & setting up the room & bathroom for guests (since, of course, they are my guests!). however i have never hosted for anything more than a sleepover, & never in a somewhat bare space that i must organize myself.

what are your best tips for hosting, & some things i should be sure to provide? my mom & sister are also visiting in july, so i will use your answers to do the same for them. thanks so much in advance!

Looking for soft, cushiony fabric placemats

I'm needing a set or 2 of soft, smooth, pillow-like placemats. I want them to feel like a pillow for my plates, fairly thick, and luxurious. All the ones I'm seeing on Amazon are thin and rough looking. Can someone recommend some that are in all the budget ranges? (Budget, middle, and rich)?

A stiffer but actually good???

I have three kids in basically a shoebox apartment so it’s imperative we keep the floor clean. I just cant reasonably expect to mop everyday so I want to use a swifter for maintenance but I’ve had two just die on me!! Any recommendations?

Edit: holy shit you guys were not kidding. I was at the hardware store and thought what the hell and bought a steam mop. This may be some of the best money I’ve ever spent

My son brought his laundry home, and...

Please, can someone help. My son moved back in, bringing his laundry with him. He's admitted to barely brushing his teeth for the 2 years he lived elsewhere, so I'm ready to believe he rarely washed his clothes. Even after repeated hot water soaks with detergent and laundry boosters, his clothes feel like nothing I've ever experienced. They're heavy and stiff and feel greasy and cold. They're like the joke about you've been wearing the same pair of jeans for so long they're ready to stand up by themselves. We've been able to get some of the smell out {unwashed body-type odor} but it actually gives me the creeps to even handle this stuff. Our water is hard, but not badly so, and no one else's clothes feel anything like this. Can any of you advise me? Thanks for any help!

This is going to sound a stupid Question

When your Clothes say “Hand Wash, with like Colours”…..How do you hand wash those Clothing Items? Also, with what like colours? I have never hand washed clothes before, when a washer is so much more Convenient 🤦🏻‍♀️

Opinions on Vollrath Mixing Bowls?

I was looking to get my wife a new set of mixing bowls for Mother's Day, and I have seen a TON of different threads and posts and opinions on what to get. I found this Vollrath set of 5 for a great price and it's dishwasher safe and comes in a ton of different sizes. Curious if anyone has experience with Vollrath's quality or has other similar options that they've enjoyed!

Small wins

So just want to share my little win today with homemaking. My 7 months old has finally gotten to the point where she naps for 1 - 1.5 hours and can play by herself for 15 minutes. So it's souch easier to clean and even started meal prepping for dinner in the evening. My home has finally started to feel functional again. I can't lie having a small infant and being a homemaker can be tough especially when it's your first one. What are your small wins today?

White Vinegar vs. CLEANING vinegar?!

Hi all, I was recently at my vacuum store. I bought a new hard floor cleaner.

I asked if I could use my own cleaning fluid bc I like to clean with vinegar.

The shop owner said yes. I could use diluted vinegar if I made sure it was cleaning vinegar.

This was the first time I heard of “cleaning” vinegar.

Do YOU use cleaning vinegar or just regular white distilled vinegar to clean?

Was he trying to get me frustrated that I would just buy his crap?

How to make an apartment cozy?

I'm moving into an apartment for the first time in a few months and I'm going to be living there for 3 years. How do I make the place I live more comfortable/cozy? (I.e what should I buy as far as furniture, lighting and decor?)

What to do about a suede coat ruined by dry cleaning?

I sent my vintage coat (suede with shearling lining) to the dry cleaners for an oil stain, and it came out completely dry, hardened, and faded. The entire coat, not just the bit that was stained, is dehydrated to the point where it doesn't even change colour when brushed. Is there anything that can be done about this? e.g. Where could I take it to be fixed? Or for DIYing, does anyone have suede conditioner recommendations?

Any advice is appreciated!

Using white towels and sheets a good idea?

I'm considering getting some white bathtowels, wash cloths and bedsheets. I have a bunch of colored ones, especially the dark colors, I always have issues with getting bleach like Stains on them from skin care products.
Is it a good idea and is it worth it buying the white color? I figured laundering them might be easier. What do ypu guys think? Thanks!

Recipe help

Hi, housewife from Scandinavia here. I recently found out that my husbands favorite dessert is cheesecake. I'm a great cook, but I suck at baking (I like improvisation a bit too much, but I've learned my lesson when it comes to baking 😅)

My husband is coming home after 2weeks in the mines and I thought I would surprise him with cheesecake. Note I've never made a cheesecake in my life, (I've just been eating them, hehe). I've looked up the basics, but I'm wondering, is there any specific hack or secret to making an amazing cheesecake??

Thanks y'all!! ❤️

Cleaning Routines

Hello all!

My husband and I have moved into a starter home and I am finding my old routine of "put some music on and clean the whole apartment in an afternoon" no longer works. I'm wanting to focus more on cleaning things correctly and thoroughly instead of zipping through and hitting the high spots but to be honest, I'm totally overwhelmed!

While researching cleaning routines it looks like most blogs I see seperate the house into zones. For example, Monday might be for cleaning the bathrooms and Tuesday for dusting.

How do you personally divide your cleaning? Does anybody have a system they recommend?

edit: thank you everybody for your responses! Hope everybody has an amazing week.

Alternative to a mop/swiffer wet jet?

What are some decent alternatives to those 2?

Mops are a little bit dirty (girlfriend doesn't like them, i don't mind them as much but i can see her point)

Swiffer wet Jet lacks that OOMPH if u know what i mean. I read that steam mops can be good. Any suggestions?

How do you meal plan for days with an unknown schedule?

We're in the middle of redoing our yard and I'm going crazy trying to figure out dinner on yard days. Sometimes I'm out helping and by the time dinnertime rolls around I'm way too tired to cook and others there's nothing I can help with and I can cook whatever I want and they generally can't tell me if I can be helpful until they're in the middle of working. Sometimes my brother in law is working and needs to be fed, other times he doesn't stay to eat. And I haven't figured out how to gauge their hunger level yet because sometimes they're starving and need a lot of food and other times they basically want a snack and won't eat a full meal. I'm trying to be more regular about meal planning but I don't know how to plan for these situations.

Hi, I'm looking for an affordable stick vacuum. I'd like a cordless one that works on hardwood and area carpet. Did I mention that I have 4 cats and a dog? Any recommendations?? TIA 😊

SAHW with no kids. What’s your daily schedule like?

I looked at SAHW schedules on the online blogs and most involve mostly cleaning. He loves cleaning, so he’d do all the cleaning. But what could I do, given that he’ll clean the house after working? I don’t know how to draft my schedule as a sahw minus cleaning duties. He asked, “What does a stay at home wife do all day, if I do the cleaning?”

How did you explain it to your husband the lifestyle, role and responsibilities that you’d take on as a SAHW with no kids?

Curious to hear your schedules as a sahw! What does it include other than cleaning? Please share sample daily schedules

Thank you!
