Buckhorn sight picture help

I just purchased a new side loading H024-3030. It’s a beauty, but I’ll admit this is my first exposure to both lever guns and buckhorn sights. I’ve taken it to the range twice so far and my results at both 50 and 100 yards have been less than optimal. I’ve watched some videos on how to adjust the buckhorn sights, but does anyone have any advice on sight picture/how to properly use this style of iron sight?

Trigger screw question

I have a couple of screws on my Big Boy that keep coming loose. One I was able to remove and apply Loctite but the trigger screw only unscrews a few turns then it seems to be stuck. I'm leary of applying too much force, so thought I'd see if anyone else has had this issue or knows how to remove the trigger screw.

Powder Recomendation

Recently acquired a Big Boy in 44 Mag. Looking for recommendations for a powder for cowboy loads. Universal, Clays, and Trail Boss are completely unobtainable with the war going on. I've worked up some loads with W231 but I could put like 7 max loads in the case and still fit a bullet, and I'm not really happy about that.

Any ideas on something that works well, takes up more space, and is actually obtainable r/n?

Quality issues

Bought a new model x 3030. Noticed out of box some plastic shaving and a small scratch on the barrel(no biggie). First time shooting noticed the rear sights were lose (to the point of them almost sliding out). The one that has me most concerned is that the gun actually jammed. Bullet got stuck and took a lot of messing around to get it out. Am I justified contacting Henry and having them look at it?

How do I protect the paint on the 22 classics receiver

So I plan on buying a 22 classic in the next week or 2 but I've been hearing that the paint has a tendency to peel off of the receiver, I would prefer not to strip the paint off because I prefer the black paint and it would too similar to my brothers uberti silver boy in my opinion. Any tips on how to protect the paint or any alternative to keep the black look?

Skinner Rimfire Peep For Sale

Anyone looking for a Skinner peep for their H001 or rimfire Henry? Haven't had many serious bites on eBay and I'm down to make a good deal if there's interest. It's only lightly used and I'm just looking to get some $ back so I can switch to the dovetail mount peep instead. Hit me up here or with a PM to discuss.

How to plug lever action 360 Buckhammer

I have a Henry side-gate lever action in 360 Buckhammer. I'd like to use it to hunt deer in Illinois, but Illinois requires the rifle to be single-shot. I see that Henry makes a reduced-capacity inner magazine tube for their .410 lever action shotguns, but nothing for any other guns. Is there a way to modify it so that it is only capable of being loaded either from the breech or through the side gate? I've read about people plugging them with a dowel or similar. I've also considered just removing the inner magazine tube or even purchasing another inner magazine tube and modifying it to remove the spring. Any other ideas?

New rifle development

Any word on what Henry might release new next year at shot show? Honestly I would love to see a Homesteader variant in 22lr. The semi auto 22lr market is kinda limited now that marlin 22lr rifles are no longer made. I’d be open to a tube feed 22lr Henry semi auto too.

Copper Fouling Henry 45-70

After firing my Henry side gate 45-70 this weekend, I was shocked at the amount of visible copper fouling observed in the barrel especial a the muzzle. I was shooting some Freedom Munitions 300 GR copper flat nosed rounds. The rifle is new so I dont know if the new barrel rifling is still sharp and needs to be broken in or this ammo is some poor quality copper.

I have never seen fouling at a level like this this before with other rifles. Any ideas here?

Few questions about single shot .223

I'm looking at buying a .223 single shot and have a few questions

  1. is the trigger really heavy? I heard they are but that newer models post recall are not

  2. does the barrel say .223 and 5.56?

  3. is the break action overly stiff?

Thank you

Golden Boy upgrades

I'm interested in any upgrades for my Golden Boy .22LR - although it's pretty sweet out of the box! Anybody have any specific recommendations for peep sight, large loop lever, etc that they've done to their GB and are happy with? Thanks!

Henry Homesteader

Anyone else kind of let down by the homesteader? I bought the rifle about 6 months ago and have put roughly 500 rounds through the gun. I initially was excited to have the gun given its handgun magazine compatibility.

I'll admit I made the mistake of buying the rifle without seeing what mag well adapter came with it. I purchased the gun with the glock magwell and intented to run the gun with the sig magwell as thats primarily what I own. I can't be upset with this but it adds to the story.

The guns beautiful, I spent the extra to get this gun in my opinion over a ruger PC because of the reputation and general esthetics of a traditional rifle. when running the factory mags I noticed they're very tight in the gun. they were tight enough to make the bolt not send the round foward when releasing from the catch. with the sig mag well installed I can hardly get the factory sig mags to seat and feed without some rough foreplay. PMag aftermarket mags there's no chance. it took me about 5 months to get the sig magwell adapter from Henry so it makes it a bummer that the gun didn't improve after getting the main perk of the firearm.

The gun shoots like a Ford drives (I have ford trucks so settle down) it's rigid and rugged but kinda stiff to operate.

I placed a simple 2x7 vortex on the gun because why not. the gun shoots and groups 2" if 50 yards is your expectation. out past your happy to hit the 10" gong past 75 or 100. I get thats not the intent of a 9mm but it should be able to perform like a .22.

overall I'll keep it for around the farm and in the truck but I was expecting more out of a Henry.
