Want to help out a student?

Hey everyone! It's my first time posting anything here on Reddit and it's to look for anyone who is interested in filling out a quick survey (5 minutes or less) It's on consumer behavior and it's for an internship I am currently doing. If anyone has the time to fill it out I would really appreciate

Buying and selling goods online

Hi guys, I am currently working on a uni project for seller's and buyer's experience with online shopping of handmade goods. I was hoping to gather insights through a short survey (2-5mins) via this platform about your own experience. I will be using these reviews for academic purposes only. I really appreciate your time in helping me :).

Thank you and keep making and buying these beautiful things that you do :)

Do people know about Amazon Handmade?

Hi all!

I was approved for Amazon Handmade, but am still wondering if I should take the jump.
My two biggest concerns are:

  1. Do people actually know about Amazon Handmade, enough for their fees to be worth it? I'm in Canada, so not sure if it makes a difference, but I never see ads about their handmade side, both off and on their platform, and never hear anyone talking about it. Nobody I mention it to knows they have a handmade marketplace.
  2. IP/copyright theft. Amazon has a TON of sellers selling them same mass-produced items, and I've seen some photos of items I *know* came from a handmade seller originally. What is Amazon's reactivity when products from the handmade marketplace show up on the main site? Has anyone had to deal with anything like that?

Thanks so much to all who answer <3 I'm hoping to bring my items to more than just the local Montreal area and this will be a big jump for me.

Handmade Amazon to Shopify

I tried handmade amazon for a while until I realized I wouldn't get orders even when I even ran ads!

The listings are uncomparable compared to normal amazon product pages and there's almost 0 visibility. Like.. who goes to Amazon to click "Handmade".

This made me switch to my shopify store Joteta and I've seen a bit of success.

If anyone has questions, please free to ask and I'll try to answer all questions to the best of my knowledge.

Shipping Differences

Not sure how active this subreddit is, but I was wondering if anyone could clarify for me what happened here -

Saturday night somebody purchased an item from me with 2-day shipping. They paid $10 for shipping, which Amazon calculated for them. When I printed the label, it cost me almost $16. Since Amazon takes such a high percentage, I've now made less than $2 on a $20 item.

When I tried to print from Pirate Ship, the 2-day wasn't available, and the next best option was $30.

Why didn't Amazon charge the appropriate price for 2-day shipping? Am I expected to forfeit profits when customers want things faster? Ridiculous.

Who Else In Amazon Handmade Has Gone FBA?

In April, I ordered something from eBay and it came from Amazon! Blew my mind! I had no idea what FBA was and that they would not only fill my orders for me, they will fill any of my orders anywhere I sell on-line. So even though it was months before I could start making new product, I made sets out of my inventory (to make each sale worth the expense) and shipped almost everything I had left to Amazon.

So far, it's been pretty good. My items are a bit unusual, few people know they exist, so they aren't searching for them. But I've been working to change that by making other items people do know about and are searching for just to get them to see my main product.

Then, this summer, I made a point of creating product in sets just for Amazon Handmade and I just sent my 4th shipment to their warehouses so it would all get there and get scanned in and put on the shelves before their warehouses are slammed with incoming inventory for Black Friday and the holidays.

I have a tight shoe string budget, so it was a bit risky for me to spend the money on packaging and labels and such. In fact I had to start a second job yesterday. But I am really hoping that things take off for me this fall.

I have to admit that it is pretty cool to get an email from Amazon that they've shipped an order for me. I have yet to use them to fill orders from any other of my e-commerce platforms. Because I don't want FBA to run out of anything before the holidays.

How about anybody else on Handmade??

Made-to-order items on H@A

The items I sell on Etsy are Made-To-Order, can take up to 5 days to ship. Will that work on H@A?

Does anyone know if Amazon Handmade will be releasing an API?

The app I've built, Trunk, syncs inventory between different sales channels like Etsy & Shopify. Many of my customers have been asking for an Amazon Handmade integration but unfortunately Amazon has yet to release an API for it.

Does anyone with any insider knowledge know if this is on Amazon's roadmap? Thanks!

Have I been accepted?

I applied last night and was told I would hear back inside of two days... was then immediately prompted to open a seller account and right after that was sent a 'Congrats! You may start listing...'

Have I been accepted to sell on Amazon Handmade?

TIA!

Question about tracked shipping (UK)

Hi Everyone,

I first started selling on Amazon Handmade (US) back in summer 2017. I sell artwork.

I lived in a EU country so it'd cost me about 6 EUR to ship one envelope with tracking (since Amazon requires tracking).

Later on, I moved to UK and I was a bit surprised that it's pretty expensive to send something with tracking.

I used to sell one poster for $12 + $6 for shipping, but when I moved to UK, the shipping price turned into 10 GBP. I use Royal Mail services.

After taking a look at all the Amazon fees (that apply to sales, shipping), it turned out that I was literally working for free. I thought about increasing the shipping price, but 6 EUR was already pretty expensive for one envelope.

In order to earn at least something, I need to increase the price for the posters and the shipping as well, but this will be a turn off for the buyers. I've seen competitors selling their poster for around $9 with free shipping, how is that possible?

I want to start doing Amazon Handmade UK as well, but the tracked shipping within the country would cost the same (10 GBP).

Has anyone dealt with this? Maybe there's a cheaper way to ship these with tracking? Any suggestions or tips? Thank you in advance.

Got approved for Handmade, is it worth the monthly fee?

Looking at growing in other markets. I know very little about Amazon as a Seller so I am curious if this service is worth the $39.99 monthly. The subreddit seems dead which makes me wonder about the community.

Any advice or numbers?

Communicating Product Option Details from Amazon to ShipStation

Does anyone know of any software or other mechanism for extracting product options (size/color) from Amazon orders when they're integrated with ShipStation?

We are trying to sort our orders in ShipStation by color, but the default connection between Amazon and ShipStation doesn't provide any information about color.

After some Amazon Handmade sellers to help us develop some 3rd party software to help you sell more!

Hey Handmade Amazonians

We're working on integrating Amazon into our 3rd party SaaS platform.

I'm not going to spam and promote it here because that's not what we're here about.

To make the most of it, we'd like to gather some feedback about problems Amazon, Etsy and ecommerce sellers in general face.

Here's a link to the typeform if you'd like to participate.

https://shoplo.typeform.com/to/LqYQDc

In the questionnaire, there's a section to leave your email address if you'd like to be notified when our Amazon integration launches.

It's not compulsory to leave your email!

Happy to answer any questions here, too!

PS - I've PMed the mods prior to posting and /u/courtneyj has given me the green light!

My second review ever was 3 stars. :(

I know its not a big deal, but with my first review being 5 stars, this drops my average to 4 and it just doesnt feel good seeing that 4-star rating on my shop :(.

Oh well, guess I just have to suck it up. Im still selling items, so I guess its not a huge deterrent. It just feels crappy.

USPS Shipping Labels

It seems unclear to me when I'm trying to buy postage from the Amazon order page, so: if I'm shipping and buying USPS First Class postage, do I have to ship with a USPS mailer? Or can I just put the First Class label on a plain mailer?

Amazon handmade or Etsy

Hi! i am new to online selling and have listing with etsy and amazon. However amazon is quite a bit more expensive and i do not feel in charge as I would in etsy. Custom Request Help

Hi, everyone! I don't sell much on Amazon so I don't know all the ins and out just yet. I received a message from a potential customer asking me if I can customize one of my items (which I absolutely can). This is the first time this has been asked of me on Amazon (although I do lots of custom work on Etsy).

I realized I have no idea how to proceed with this. After looking at my Inventory Management, I see that I had Custom disabled, so I'm not sure if that would affect anything. Can I create a listing just for this customer, and potentially disable it after her purchase? Or would that violate some rule? (I say potentially disable because I like her idea and it could be something to resell)

I would greatly appreciate any and all help you folks could provide!

Thanks in advance!

Customer never collected parcel, what to do?

Hi there, I have a customer who didn't collect their parcel from the mailing office so it's been returned to me. At this point I don't know why but have messaged them to find out.

What do I do now, is there a way for the customer to pay for postage again? It's a larger item so postage isn't cheap from the UK to U.S.

I've had this happen once before and just re-shipped to the customer free of charge. What does anyone else do?

Thanks in advance!
