FAQ

Q: Can you recommend a good hair dye?

A: In no particular order:

1) Manic Panic

2) Arctic Fox

3) Good Dye Young

The recommended dyes above are all endorsed as excellent options, and all vegan and cruelty-free. They all have different colors and products. To avoid damaging your hair, never use a (developer included) box dye.

Q: Do I need to bleach my hair first?

A: You don't need to bleach your hair, but if you want bright colors a bleached blonde range around level 8 is recommended; You can also dye just a few hairs to see how it will turn out.

Or oVertone has a bleach free, coloring conditioner for dark brown hair.

Q: How do I dye hair without bleaching?

A: Wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo, do not use conditioner, and allow your hair to fully dry before applying the dye.

Q: How do I bleach my hair?

A: You'll need to apply bleach and developer. You can view detailed instructions here. But instructions will vary depending on your hair and desired results.

Q: How do I remove dye from my hair?

A: The recommended way is to give your hair a Bleach Wash. Mix (1 part) bleach with (1-2 parts) 20 volume developer, mix with (6 parts) clarifying shampoo, and apply to damp hair for 10 minutes, before rinsing.

    Help

Hi everyone, can you help me? I used to dye my hair red, and currently it's a strawberry blonde shade. But I want to achieve this lighter blonde tone. How can I do it?

Red that won’t fade to pink

I’m going to be dying my roots red, and I really don’t want it fade to pink. Is there any suggestions for which one to use. I’m fine with semi permanent and permanent dyes. I’ve used Arctic Fox wrath before and it went pink.

    Finding the perfect color

I have never been able to find THE color for me.

I want to find a good, preferably permanent box dye, that will look good on me.

For the past 2 years I've been on the mf HUNT for the perfect natural auburn hair dye. Something that has a noticeable ginger tint, but still on the brown side. I have very pale, pink skin and brown eyes and eyebrows. I absolutely ADORE dark auburn hair and have been experimenting for the last 5 years.

I hate to admit that I've always stuck with Revlon dye 🙈 occasionally using something a little more expensive.

I also would like to avoid the need to bleach my hair every time for a touch up. My hair is naturally dirty blonde/milk chocolate brown so I'm not too worried about it.

My blue hair color has faded away already

This is the second time I dyed my hair blue at this salon and both time the color faded away after a week. Why is this? In the past I've dyed it grey and it would last much longer before fading. I guess I can talk to my salon and see what's the problem.

    Help with level and color

Hi all, I want to go for the base brown above (and maybe a peekaboo vivid too we’ll see). I always have trouble figuring out what level to lighten to and which color to use. I want warmth and this almost blonde without being too light or red. Any recommendations? More in comments.

I currently have a medium brown, very ashy color (and am comfortable/practiced with lightening at home).

Suggestions for base and color please!

Hi all, what level would I need to lighten to for the brown in this picture? And any Sally’s color recs for the brown? I’m currently a medium brown that’s pretty ashy.

    Trying to go silver

Good evening people. So this is my current hair color (dyed a couple months ago) and I want to dye it again, but SILVER this time. Is this light enough to go silver?

    What should I do?

    Hi there!

Last summer, I went to the hair salon and got blonde highlights. They still look really pretty and natural, but for some reason, I’m feeling like going back to my natural hair color—or maybe even darker. The thing is, by next summer, I’ll probably want to lighten my hair again (I love matching my hair to the seasons now, haha!).

So, my question is: should I just box dye it dark brown, or is it better to go to the salon? The picture below is my hair color now.

    Waiting after bleaching hair

I wasn't able to find much about this exact issue online so I thought I'd ask here. I've bleached my (basically) virgin hair for a peekaboo hair colouring but I've decided to scrap it and just bleach/dye the rest of my hair. Should I still wait 4-6 weeks to bleach the virgin hair or should it be fine to do so as long as I don't touch the bleached parts? Thank you :)

color formula to get similar color?

(not my picture, pic from pinterest)

So I do my own hair w things I can buy at Sally Beauty. I’ve stopped going to salons for more than hair cuts bc every time I get it done professionally, i don’t really like it. I fear that it is a me thing, but I get closer to what I want when I do it myself.

On to my current hair: Naturally, it’s a brown. I’m currently working with previous reddish brown that has faded to a salmon-y pink. My biggest concern is my hair soaking up too much pigment. It lifts very well.

Things I like about this hair color: I like the dark red, obviously. If anything, I want it just a little smidgen bit darker.

Any advice would be appreciated! I’ve dyed my hair myself about 6-7 times now using mostly Wella products, but did ion once.

What should I use for a cherry red on thin hair/damaged scalp ?

    Hii,

I wanted to know what you would advise me to use for a cherry red dye ? My scalp hasn’t really recovered from when I bleached my hair in 2022, and now that I almost have (I just have to cut a bit tbh) no blonde hair anymore I was wondering if you had any products I could use that wouldn’t damage my hair and scalp too much.

I was wondering if it would be good to use red henna since well it’s natural and also because my sister did that and her hair is way healthier than when she was just dying it with dye she would buy or when she was going to the hair saloon. The new Garnier Olia looks nice too.

Note that I naturally have dark brown hair too.

    L’Oreal HiColor Question!!

Hi! it’s my first time using this specific brand of black dye. typically for black i would just use 10 volume because my hair is already black brown, however the box is suggesting 30 volume?? should i go by that and use 30 or 10 like i would normally use? i know this specific colour line is a bit different so just wanted to be sure

Does repeatedly bleaching hair after a haircut cause damage or hair loss ?

I’ve been bleaching my hair for 2 years now basically every 2-4 weeks. I have a buzz cut and will get a haircut every 2 weeks which is why i do it so frequently. Is this known to cause any issues ?

I wouldn’t assume so since new hair is growing everytime I cut it but I don’t really know.

    Trying to achieve balayage

Hi, just need a bit of advice, I have dyed my hair black several times, last time being April of this year, I also put a red permanent dye over my hair around a month ago, I’ve put colour remover on which did nothing. Is there any chance of getting a brunette/blondeish balayage or is it too difficult? I’m going to the salon tomorrow to get a test strand

How to get Transylvania dye out fast

Hi! I dyed my hair with arctic fox Transylvania dye about 3 to 4 weeks ago. It’s turned green very fast and I’m done with it being green. I want it back to my natural color so I can dye it red instead. What can I do to get it out faster without damaging my hair? Ive been washing it pretty much everyday and it just seems to get greener.
