We came to Canada from our home countries looking for clean air, safe streets & financial growth.
Unfortunately in the last year, both myself and my partner got layed off. I managed to find myself a contract position but he is still struggling to get anything at all (doing his absolute best, working part time jobs, minimum wage, you name it).
We are both highly educated in our fields, both being in Tech. We have substantial work experience and are confident in our ability to do our very best at our jobs.
The reason I write this today is, because slowly, I am losing all hope in a better life. I genuinely think we had better potential and growth opportunity in our home country.
We don’t have the jobs we know we deserve. We face silent racism on an ongoing basis. We have accumulated debt and have downsized to be able to make rent.
We live pay cheque to pay cheque. Are highly stressed. Our health has suffered tremendously.
Has anyone had a similar experience in Canada? Has anyone been able to grow from it? Is there a future here?
We really love the country. We have a community here. We have made good friends. We have hobbies we like.
But we are slowly getting tired of not being able to be productive and expand our careers.
Any advice from expats living abroad in different countries?

My primary goals are studying and Fitness. I have an exam coming up in six months. My time zone is GMT+5:30. 28M from India. I want someone who is strict with me. I have study every day at any cost. I am up for studying over voice or video calls few times when I don't feel like studying. Also I'm planning to wake up in the morning around 4:00 am daily and study.If anyone of you is planning the same, hmu. It'll be really helpful to me if you ping me in the morning. By doing whatever, that everyday goals must be reached. I'm expecting to stay consistent for the next 10 months.

I'm a 31 yo, F from Southeast Asia (GMT+8). Im 7 months into weightlifting, after having transitioned two months ago from a bodybuilding program.

I'm a CA final student, exam in May 2025. I've struggled with procrastination and slacking off for a long time, but I want to stay consistent with my studies.

I want to get back to the basics solve challenges in websites like Hackerranks and prepare for high-tech interviews in SQL. Hello! Starting in the New Year I would like to get up earlier. I know I am a night person and I'm not looking to become a 5 AM person, but 9 AM would be fantastic for me.
I've tried many things but the only times I've made it work is when I have to check in with someone to say that I'm up!
We'll probably need to check in for a couple months for it to really work for me!

Hi! I'm a 32F, EST (Toronto). I have lost my workout motivation and I need someone to kick my ass. I'm trying to stick to my workouts (lifting roughly 3x a week and cardio 2x a week), eat within my daily calories, and not binge eat during the holidays.

I've been learning to play the banjo on-again-off-again since the start of the year. I'm not particularly fantastic, but I don't need to be a rockstar - I just want to be able to play along in jam sessions and enjoy myself.
What I'm looking for is someone else who's also learning a musical instrument to hold me accountable to playing and practicing some daily, and who I could help hold to daily (or whatever your preferred schedule is) practice with their instrument. This would look like sending little audio or video recordings of us practicing each day. I use discord primarily, but if you prefer a different platform I'd probably be game, so long as it's not texting.

I, 29F, kind of lost all my fitness when recovering from grave illness the past 4 years. I made sure to get all the equipment I need at home because I still am on immunosuppressants and cannot go to the gym.
Problem is I work like crazy! I was up until 6am on a Saturday morning to deliver something. I don’t know, I just am that person.
I really want a female accountability partner to work towards this goal of mine. I am someone who is easily persuaded into doing something through good influence.
I just want to make sure I have some dedicated time and someone checking in on me to see if I hit my target calorie deficit through exercise and check out my food journal too!
I also shop left, right and center! Books, clothes, shoes, things to cook with, software, you name it and I probably buy it. I NEED TO STOP THIS before it ruins me. I need someone to help me not make impulse purchases.

Hi, I’m looking for a social accountability buddy. Due to social anxiety, I find myself not getting involved in social activities as much as I want to and as a result I don’t have many friends. Quite often I will plan to go somewhere, then on the day just cancel or if I do manage to go, I struggle to be consistent. Anyone else relate?
If so, I think it would be great to become social accountability buddies. We could hold each other accountable to ensure we are meeting our social needs, which is a basic part of being a human. I’m thinking, we could share our social plans with each other every week, sharing any anxieties we may have and could encourage each other to get to events/meet friends. We could then check in with each other afterwards to see how things went. I’m open to different ideas too…
I find sometimes having someone else who relates and is on the same journey as you helps so much. We could help each other and start living life outside our comfort zones.
