    I like to think the Alien movie egg poster wasn't a marketing team that didn't have all the info, rather a team that knew to make the egg look familiar yet alien, to illicit fear

    The eggs in the movies are barely recognizable as eggs, so putting them on the poster would be more confusing than scary. Making them alien versions of an everyday household item was genius.

    Remember, it was 1979. You couldn't put HR Geiger pseudo-sexual body horror on a publicly-visible movie poster and expect late-70s Americans to flock to the theater.
