Hoping to buy my dad a mini next year. Up to £7.5k must be in the UK or Ireland. Would love something with a bit of kick. 1275cc minimum, maybe a turbo. What should I be looking out for? Something that’s ready to go preferably, maybe some minor restoration work. The range of years and models can be overwhelming. Hoping to get something that can narrow the search. Cheers
I have an Spi and the previous owner added some “performance” from minimania which I’ve slowly been removing.
It has a straight center exit exhaust which is loud in terms of cabin noise so as part of my plan to make the car internally quieter, I’m thinking of replacing the exhaust.
Diesel anyone have recommendations for a quiet exhaust that isn’t a total drag on the system?
It’s an auto so I need every bit of power I can get.
I bought my 1992 Rover 1.3 Mini with a lovely twin pipe exhaust but because of the brackets holding the sections together it sits lower and catches on speed bumps which isn’t ideal. Does anyone recommendation any aftermarket exhausts that sound lovely but sit a bit higher (possibly still twin pipe)?
Shoot me a message if you do, I’m in the USA.

Forgot about this one! A track day back in 2020.
Love how the covid masks make it look we’ve just pulled off a heist, and are trying to lose the cops in the unmarked McLaren.
So basically yesterday I was driving my 1991 998 rover mini city down the motorway at about 55-60mph when suddenly the engine decided to cut off without any warning, luckily there was a turning to a quiet backroad however it refused to re start. It cranks fine but just won’t catch a spark. When this happened there was no noise or smoke or anything, it felt like a stall but no ignition lights came on the dash which makes me think it may be a fuel issue or something as I stupidly filled (possibly overfilled) the tank to the brim. I’m thinking that maybe this has created some sort of vacuum and pushed too much fuel into the carb causing it to flood, hence it not restarting. It had a 1500 quid full check over and a lot of work done a month of so ago and has been running perfectly up till now but I’m slightly worried it could be a more serious issue. Has anyone had any similar experience or has any ideas what could have caused this?
Thanks very much.
Like at what point should I go back and re do it? My right rear wheel is currently sitting 1/8” higher than the left rear wheel. Is that acceptable?
Fitted spotlights with their own switch, relay, earth and 12V feed off the starter. Since wiring it in those things have stopped working, I’ve changed the fuse and tested the new fuse with a multimeter so I know it’s not that and I removed the spotlight wire from the starter incase that was interfering. Any reason this might happen or any thing else to test?
Bought a new fan belt and its slightly wider and got a flat bottom rather than v-shaped despite it saying it should fit my car. What’s the correct fan belt for a 1992 1275cc carb Mini?
I was looking to do an autocross in my Mini for the first time, and it’s kind of embarrassing but I’ve never actually tried launching from a standstill in a manual car.
I’ve done a lot of autocross in my previous VW GTI but it wasn’t manual, so it was just hold down the brake and accelerator and let the car figure the rest out when I let go of the brake.
So I was wondering is there anything specific to these cars that I should know about, or would I learn all I need to know from some YouTube video online?
Everything you read online says you need to take the gearbox out but I tried it with it still in. Unbolt the rod and remove the old bushing, mine had split in 2 so needed a variety of hammers, chisels, screwdrivers and pliers to remove the remains of the outer bit. With the gearbox in you don’t have enough room to hammer the new one in so instead find a fully threaded bolt the same diameter and length as the one you took out with the nut, washer and a larger washer. Put the bushing up to the side of the hole with the bolt through and nuts and washers on the other side, start tightening the bolt which pulls the bushing through the holes. Once it’s most of the way there, hammer the last bit in with a chisel, remove the bolt and put the rod back and reassemble the correct bolt with nut and washers
Rover Mini Cooper set to appear in Assetto Corsa Evo. Looking forward to this one.
Hi,
So i am having some issues with my spi sometimes stalling after coming to a stop or letting go of the gas/clutch.
It starts on first try and drives normal.
I have replaced the fuel trap and all vacuum pipes aswell as the fuel filter, battery, tightened the alternator belt and checked grounds.
I noticed that it is running on ngk bp6es plugs and not bpr6es looking at mini spares the resister model seems to be the correct one for the SPI.
What issues would be caused by using non resistor plugs on an SPI?
I’m tired of disassembling my bike and trying to do a Tetris t-spin every time I wanna load/unload my bike in the car. I know Sea Suckers exist, but I’ve heard that they bend/ruin roofs and I’d like to keep my roof in good condition if possible.
