Help with duckling.

I have to give my duckling liquid antibiotics due to an injury. While giving the antibiotics orally by syringe it fought the medicine going down and some ended up in its nose and it was "sneezing" it out. I wiped off what I could but there is still some left in the nostril in the beak. They are in a warmish bath now hoping to break it up. Any other suggestions to clear it?

Spur wounds

My rooster is tearing up my hens. When he mounts them his spurs dig into their sides under the wings. Saddles don't cover this area. Is there any way to protect my girls?

Silkie hen lethargic and pulsing vent

I checked on my chickens when I got home from work today and noticed the silkie in the nesting box. Didn't think much of it, but three hours later she was still in there. My first thought was maybe she has gone broody. But when I moved her she just sat there and didn't put up any fight when I picked her up. She just seems very lethargic and her vent was pulsing every few seconds.

I assumed if she were broody, she would move back to the nest. There were also only two eggs in the nesting box and one she wasn't even sitting on. Haven't noticed any strange poops.

Any ideas what could be up with her?

How to fix this leg?

I got him in September 2023, he was already 3 months old and he couldn’t stand. That leg is turned backwards and the toes are curled. I can’t pay for a vet. I tried tethering that leg to the other as well as putting him in a suspended harness. What are your thoughts?

When to put broody hen and chicks with flock

Karen, our hen, is getting a bit antsy with her surrogate chicks. When/how do I put them with the rest of the flock? Tomorrow they will have been together 5 days, not sure if they will be safe if I open their door and let Karen handle them with other hens and in main coop.

We have raised many chicks but never with a hen. I am nervous she will get irritated I am not letting her out soon enough and she will hurt the chicks. She has been amazing so far!

Tomorrow it will be in the 70’s here, planning on making a playpen outside with mom and chicks so other hens and roo can get used to them, just not sure what’s next.

Thank you for any and all advice!

Found it on the ground 3 days ago. Brought it home 2 days ago. Heating pad for the first day, incubator for yesterday and today. There's a dark spot. Is there any hope?

Broody behavior for a day or two - how long till she resumes laying?

We had one of our hens get broody for the first time (she's <1yr) and we broke her of the behavior pretty quickly by chasing her out of the nesting box and removing the bedding. She has gone back to her usual behavior with the flock of 4 and seems to be entirely back to normal except that she's not laying. Is this just a wait-it-out thing?

Lone Chicken

Hello,

New to this feed, but not new to chickens. We have found ourselves in a difficult spot. One of our two chickens passed away yesterday. How we only have Honeybee. They were BFFs and came to us together from a local farm. I am not sure what to do. Will she be okay for three weeks by herself? I am getting 5 ready for coop pullets about that time. Should I try to see if our neighbor can integrate into their flock? Should I leave her in the coop if we decide to keep her here? She is used to free ranging from 1:30 p.m. until bed time. Thanks for any advice you can give.

One of my girlfriend's chicks was born with double feet. It will most likely get exterminated since it's hard for it to survive like that. Thought it was interesting. I don't know much about chickens, but I'm a taxidermist, so I will most likely preserve the feet. Such a beautiful little guy.

Research and preparation BEFORE chickens.

I'm frustrated at the amount of people who decide to keep chickens on a whim.

Post after post of dead or dying chickens because of the lack of basic knowledge. Knowledge readily available through purchasing a book, buying a single magazine available at every farm store or last resort of googling "How do I raise chickens".

In the last 5 days I've counted 20+ dead chicks because of lack of basic knowledge.
