unmarked police cars

I've noticed a few unmarked police vehicles, like vans, SUVs, and utes, around Christchurch. Are there any telltale signs for spotting unmarked police cars?

Second-Year BCom Student at UC Seeking Advice on Accounting Internships and Work Experience

Hi everyone,

I’m a second-year Bachelor of Commerce student at the University of Canterbury, majoring in Chartered Accounting. Now that I’ve completed my second year, I’m really keen to gain some practical experience—whether through internships, work experience, or even part-time roles in accounting.

I’d love any advice on:

  • How to find or approach companies in Christchurch for internships or work experience
  • Key things to focus on in my CV or LinkedIn profile to stand out
  • Networking tips or any local events that might be useful for accounting students
  • Any personal experiences with landing work or internships in accounting during uni

P.S. Here’s my LinkedIn if anyone would like to connect directly. Thanks again!

Tattoo artist that is good with cover ups

Does anyone have any recommendations for a tattoo artist that has a good reputation for cover up tattoos? I have an embarrassingly awful tattoo on my upper thigh about the size of my hand that iv been wanting to cover for years. It was done in some guys garage when I was 16 to give you an indication of how bad it is!! Finally in a position financially to be able to do it. I suspect it will need some kind of laser treatment first. Thanks!

Anyone know what the massive bangs and smoke are, coming from near Hagley Park?

East side of north Hagley.

There's been three now in the last ten minutes or so

Big bangs in central city

Anyone know what those big boom sounds were in town just now? About 4 of them a minute or two apart. Followed by the sound of a lot of sirens..

Cycle path closure

https://www.thepress.co.nz/nz-news/360481443/silly-stupid-short-sighted-cyclists-unite-over-kiwirail-decision

A great turnout by cyclists/walkers showing their disapproval at the proposed closure on Thursday.

Hopefully commonsense will prevail - eventually ! The cycleway does not cross the railway - and there are bells and lights on Scruttons Road where some cyclist may cross to join the cycle path.

Get the T-shirt slogan though ! Safety tip 101 - if you see a train, don’t cross.

Glentunnel Camping Ground - what’s happening?

Anyone got the inside story on what’s happening with this camping ground out at Glentunnel? Owned by Selwyn District Council, the leaseholder was booted off in July 2024 and the camping ground has been closed ever since. Will it ever reopen? I’m really hoping it’s not gone forever…..

Social groups etc for early 30s

Hi Chch, I'm a 30yr old fella just wondering if there's any like minded individuals or circles to make new friends with. I've always been fairly reserved and had a select few friends mostly made through hobbies, I barely ever see them due to the fact the social activities were usually centred around the sports (skateboarding, mountain biking)

I'm from overseas so don't have the background of friends from high-school etc.

I'm fairly introverted in a sense where I do enjoy just being at home, but I'm pretty chatty when I share similar interests with others.

I have a couple good mates here that I can always talk to or rely on. But usually it revolves around a catchup with that sport other than messenger. And my interests have shifted. As I've got older I prefer having a select few mates but I'm open to meet new people.

Currently pretty hooked on resistance training in the gym going on a couple years now with a PT cert to be studied early next year just for the fun of it.

Currently enjoy reading, reading a book on Narcissism atm, I'm into my manga and anime also, I was trying to learn how to draw but that priority dropped. Could be interested in a weekend drawing club or something maybe. So im a fairly nerdyish, creative but also dabble in some weight training

Anyone know of any clubs, meet ups etc?

Anarchial soul? Legit MH support?

Does anyone know what’s the go with anarchial soul / Rob Read? He’s been involved in the outer circle of the chch mental health sphere for years but is consistently involved in turmoil and seemingly problematic behaviours. Throws names about like Mike King and Jazz Thornton.

NeuroFit - experience?

Hi all

I am wondering if anybody has any experience with neurofit.co.nz? They look to be providing coaching programmes that help “clear the mental mess”, but say that it’s not group therapy.

I have a family member that is struggling mentally with a lot of the things (anxiety, self doubt, brain fog, etc) that they claim their programme addresses. The doctor, therapists, and other remedies don’t seem to be working (meditation helps a little) and we are getting a little desperate. It’s not cheap and obviously I don’t want to throw my money away but at this point I’m willing to give it a shot.

Has anybody tried it? Legit? Any insights are deeply appreciated.

Thank you!

Here's how to opt out of the Yellow Pages

Driving around today I saw countless copies of the Yellow Pages blowing down the road. I honestly cannot believe that they're still produced, business still pay to advertise in them, and that you have to opt out, not in to receiving it.

You can opt out from future editions here.

How to find first year flatmates?

Hi

I am a year 13 in wellington and hoping to go to UC next year and study engineering. I didn't get an offer for first year halls of residence, and i'm currently on the general waitlist but chances are looking abit slim. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on finding flatmates (in particular looking to flat with other first year students). Im on the UCSA facebook but most of the posts are for second year and above.

Thanks :)
