Breakfast recommendations

Hi! I'm visiting Christchurch in early august. I would be grateful for breakfast recs! No dietary requirements.

I read Tom's and Estelle's are popular/in vogue, the photos looks yummy but not sure if seating is comfortable and if they do full breakfast

New restaurants in the last year?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering what restaurants people have come across in chch over the past year that are share worthy? Open to all types of cuisine

Feel like I've done a fair bit of exploring but never know what you don't know.

TIA!

Anyone missing King of Charcoal go to Mashawe.

The main chef I always saw at KoC is there. It's at the southwest end of New Regent St.

Warning: If you don't like Parsley, tell him beforehand to make sure he doesn't put any in. Otherwise, he's doing top notch stuff.

Best strawberries ever

If you haven’t had them before go get yourself some strawberries from Pataka berries on marshland rd. They’re $6 a punnet but they are far superior to any other strawberries you can buy.

The Diversity

Went there last night for dinner and it was delicious! I had the red duck curry and my partner had the satay noddle soup. We shared the curry puffs and chicken tikka. Huge selection of food on the menu. Will definitely go back again.

Super Restaurant, Lyttelton

Have to recommend Super - we haven't been in a while but the food is always great when we do. Vibe is quite bohoish, food is combo of japanese and Maori - but totally worth it.

Smokey T's for BBQ

Smokey T's is the best for US style BBQ - lots of imitators but none are as good. Very down to earth restaurant but the food is great quality.

King of snake

I’m going to king of snake on Friday (so excited!) just looked at the menu and there’s a lot on there. Is there any must try dishes?

The Good Home Wigram

Went to TGH Wigram recently with a few friends, which was a pretty large pub-style joint with some generally crowd-pleasing options on the menu and at the bar.

We begun with some garlic pizza, which was actually surprising good despite the rather bland appearance. This was a 9/10.

Naturally, I opted for the biggest thing I could find on the menu for my own main, which was the ultimate burger. $35 and came with a decent basket of fries. Double beef patties, cheese, Nashville hot chicken, onion rings, pulled pork, fried egg, pickles, slaw, aioli. This was the biggest burger I have actually ever eaten, much larger than the Man Mountain from Bacon Bros or Big Al from Fergburger - unfortunately it didn't taste as good as either. The components on their own were pretty good, but together they were confused and didn't really stand out. The beef, cheese and the onion rings really elevated it, and the chicken was good but wasn't as spicy as you would expect Nashville hot chicken to be. That's probably a good thing for a burger. The aioli and slaw brought some much needed freshness and crunch, nothing wrong there. I've had better pulled pork, and have made better myself, and really I'm not a fan of runny eggs in burgers either. 7/10. Next time I might go for a smaller classic burger and just enjoy only a few flavours at a time.

A few of my friends got the BBQ Platter, which they were not super fond of, but the bits I had were pretty good. They did forget to give us pulled pork here. 7.5/10 in my opinion.

They are also on First Table for half price at 5:00pm, so it's worth a shot before a movie at the Silky Otter next door to make a night out of it.

Alaturka (kebabs and sovalaki)

If your looking for suvalaki or a kebab. You needn't look any further. He used to be in the restaurant next to the library in sumner but now is in a small caravan right on the corner.
