Eating cats

I am not in Ohio, but anyway. Seems like a lot of you all are keeping the catch. I can't get past the slime, myself. So it is catch and release for me. Would you share your preparation and cooking methods?

Casting vs spinning.

As I am upgrading my tackle I’m stuck wondering, conventional/ casting reels or spinning reels? I need to cast a good distance in most of my spots so the distance in which I can cast will absolutely come into play. Also what are the big differences between a large baitcaster and a conventional reel, I see people use both. Any opinions as well as pros and cons would be appreciated thanks!

Stumped on bankfishing

Growing up my grandpa was a natural at catching catfish. He taught me a lot about bass and crappie, but I never really asked anything about his catfishing. So far I’ve tried chicken liver, and some cut bait from Walmart. Soaked it in this stink mixture along with koolaid and cast into where the current meets the slow water of a pool. Having caught anything yet.

I live near Springfield, Missouri and catfishing is everything here so I’m thinking maybe it’s just the spots I’m picking or where I’m casting.

If anyone could just give me some basics like when to retrieve, signs in the water of possible catfish activity or anything else, id greatly appreciate it.

Tackle upgrade?

I have been using ugly stik catfish rods paired with kast king sharks bait feeders for a while now and I was looking at making the switch to some casting rods and reels. I casted a madkatz combo out and I really like them. Was wondering if I should look into getting a couple or do you guys have a brand you like better. (Fishing for mainly 5-40lb fish at most)

Has anyone tried this?

Letting chicken breast sit in some chicken livers to be marinated? If so, how’d it work?

Channels

I keep hearing the word channel in YouTube videos. I was wondering if this lake had any, if so, how can you identify them? If possible, could someone please circle it so I can see what to look for

Shad got bit in half

Was catfishing tonight and had a bell go off didn't feel no fight pulled up my bait and everything was gone, I had a whole shad on there. Catfish don't bite bait in half do they? Could it have been a gar?
