Honestly between cyclists with no lights blasting red lights, electric scooters and shit drivers it’s an absolute pain trying to get about the city.
I noticed the pool is open more often than I expected at this time of year. I went a few months ago for the first time when the water was ~18c and I struggled wearing just my swimming jammers, but I really want to get back into the cold/open water swimming. This was 7am on a Sunday morning and it was actually surprisingly busy, albeit the number of people were dwarfed by the size of the pool.
Are there actually many people using the pool as we approach winter?
Have a couple of friends and their pup coming to visit, and as I'm still relatively new to the area I'm not sure where to take them. Would be grateful for recs!
Hello good redditors of Cambridge. Got a job offer the London and I’ll be moving there soon. The job has flexibility and London is pricey to put it mildly (don’t know if my offer is too low but I don’t know how people can afford to live there). Anyway, I am thinking of Cambridge. As I get close to my move my anxiety roars louder and since I never moved out of the oasis that is the ME (he said with a tear in his eyes) I was wondering if all those videos I see online of people beating up and yelling at minorities in the UK overall over blown or a real thing. And how easy is it to go to London from town. Thank you and sorry for the long post.
I need to hand wash my car but I don’t have a hose as I live in a flat. What are the options in Cambridge? Are there petrol stations with hoses and hoovers where I can get this done? Was quoted 70 pounds for a car wash at Tesco and don’t want to pay that much.
I'm fed up looking for men's shirts!
Buying on-line is not worth it because sizing is inconsistent and ended up returning all 5 shirts that I bought. Went into Next and tried on their trial shirts. Apparently I'm a slim fit despite being 95KG with a bit of a belly! 🤔 Bought several (packets of) shirts of the same spec as the trial shirt but when I got home they drowned me. So I've wasted two hours driving back and forth returning shirts. Why not just put the shirts on a hanger and shuck off the excessive packaging?!
Sorry for the rant! Bit frustrated.
Any recommendations greatfully received for a shop that has decent service, sells high quality shirts that are thick material and has a nice twill texture.
Thanks.
Edit: Thanks for all the suggestions. I've braved the raving hoards and entered Cambridge. Quick trip to Charles Tyrwhitt and everything is sorted. A revelation! Well staffed by people who knew what they sold and try-on shirts in every size, fit, and arm length conceivable.
I'll try the others when the weather inproves and I'm less grumpy. 🤣 I'm back in my cabbage field now where I belong.
Hello
Silly question...
I'm thinking about running to Ely and taking the train back. Want to follow the rivers. Should be a nice 30k.
Here's the issue: the route seems to cross close by some houses and farms. I'm ashamed to admit it, but after being bitten by a dog I've gotten deadly afraid of them. Anyone know if the route features angry dogs guarding their territory?
2 buses per train. Do they think no one travels on a weekend? I know they class it as off peak but this is wild. Feel sorry for the staff just getting asked when the next bus is but the planning just seems shocking.
It seems Cambridge doesn’t have a real bonfire, only fireworks. Does anyone know where is the closest traditional bonfire ? I don’t mind driving a bit, but looking online I can only find Lewes bonfire night which is massive and fully booked. I just want an old school village bonfire, maybe some mulled wine and a few fireworks but not bothered, just the fire will do. Any tips ?
I play bass. Let’s jam. I don’t care what kind of music, but I can teach you some cowboy tunes if you want. I know a lot of Grateful Dead and Ween songs, and can improvise my ass off.
Also looking for recommendations for some shows in the area to check out. Thank you, lovely people!
Can anyone recommend shops selling traditional Christmas cards? Churches, Father Christmas, nativity scenes, robins, stockings by fireplace, shepherds, three kings... that sort of thing. There seem to be a lot of modern styles with few colours and I miss the beautiful ones.
Has anyone ever used the soil conditioner for sale at Butt Lane/Thalia Waterbeach? I'm trying to figure out if it is treated for knotweed etc, but get can't get a response from Thalia
Just wondering where’s good to watch the fireworks with a toddler without actually going on midsummer common?
Can anyone recommend the least busy times to go to the skatepark on Jesus Green? My toddler just loves riding his tricycle there but we always leave soon after arriving because someone inevitably comes to skateboard and my son gets in their way. He hates having to leave - I have to drag him away kicking and screaming... so I'd love to aim for times when it's likely to be empty so he can stay for a while.
The ones last year on Midsummer Common were disappointing, so keen to know of any alternatives.
Appearantly Cambridge will have no train service to London for 12 days in a row.
The shift started okay until people started swarming from the Mash and all the other clubs. It was a Halloween night, so the place looked like a carnival.
Also please even when drunk try to not litter that much. Cleaning all that up at 5am is not that enjoyable.
Oh and also we got a fight and one guy got his nose dislocated. Staff was fine, the victim was a customer.
It is funny how some people asked if the blood was real. I guess Halloween is a perfect night for crime after all.
In the end most of the people were very polite. My guess is that they see you as a saviour that makes them food at 3 am.

Hiya - anyone know if I could park on sedley taylor road or Rutherford road overnight as a non-resident? If not where can you park for free/cheep off long road? Thanks x
Hello and happy halloween. So I know this is more of an american thing but some people like to go pretty crazy with halloween decorations on their homes. There is a cool house in Girton for instance. Would be cool to have a collection of the best halloween houses in an around town, do you have any to recommend ?
Our year old heat pump needs a service. Does anyone have any recommendations please?

They’d have a whole bunch of accountants so how can they be in a position to have no answers?
I would suspect it’s creative but legal accounting to avoid taxes.

As the name suggests, I am looking for suggestions for the first date. We both are vegans, so a pub with nice vegan option is appreciated. Also, looking for something with nice ambience and parking. I know, I am asking for a lot :) any suggestions much appreciated.
