Is there something going on at the libraries? I've gone from having an indefinite return date on my books to a due date of next month. Not unhappy about it -- they're not my books, after all -- just wondering if there's a huge stocktake or something.
For anyone who studied Land Econ at Cambridge, wondering how intense the workload is and how challenging. Thanks
not asking about admission or the interview, prior post was removed due to this.
So.... I am currently going through background check verifications for a grad scheme and the background check vendor/ my employer won't seem to accept the official letters/ transcript generated on Digitary Core because they want the University to 'verify it directly'. I obvs know the uni doesn't do 3rd party verification and I am kind of drawing blanks on hkw exactly to prove my results because everything I have given them so far from Parchment/ Digitary... they have plainly refused to look at. Was wondering if anyone has been in same boat before and/or knows how to navigate this endless hoop jumping?
I am getting pinged with angry emails from HR and I dont need this stress right as now as term ends ...🫠
Is it just me?

Hi everyone, I’m a cambridge student trying to get rid of their bridgemas cambridge ball tickets. I ended up booking a train back home and definitely can’t make the ball, so if you’re a student/ visitor that wants to experience a cambridge ball this sunday evening then let me know!!
(if this violates any rules then take it down sorry, am just desperate!!!)
Why are there so many Americans at this university who can't keep their voices down in public? No other nationalities seem to have this problem. Respect local cultural norms please, you are rude and annoying.
I have a BA from Cambridge. But it is a 2.2 and I would like to do a masters so I can apply for better jobs.
I can get 1 year's masters funding from SFE if I don't already have a masters.
Can I postpone my BA turning into an MA for this reason?
I believe I need to attend a second ceremony anyway for the BA to turn into an MA?
Ideally, in a field like philosophy.
Hi Everyone, 1st year postgraduate here.
I will be staying here for the winter break. No idea what's gonna heppend here.
Can anyone suggest any nice events/ seminar happening in the area?
Hi, I’m a Chemistry MSci graduate, and cannot find any job whatsoever. I follow the careers service guidelines on writing resumes and cover letters. Nevertheless, I am getting rejection after rejection. Anyone else struggling/has any tips on how to secure a place somewhere? I literally don’t mind anything, can do lab technician, synthetic chemist, scientific writing etc. I just feel like it should be easier with two Cambridge degrees…
Hi all - I'm visiting Cambridge with some friends. I majored in finance and math 13 years ago at the University of Virginia, and was curious to see what classes are like today compared to my time. You guys think I can sneak in at the back? I know some would wonder at the choice of spending holiday time in a class but I think I'd really enjoy it.
My daughter started her maths degree at Cambridge in October.
She is really struggling to align to the new way of thinking/learning that the degree demands, and this is making her miserable.
Can anybody share any thoughts on how she might go about helping her help herself to make the necessary adjustments to progress and start to enjoy her time at Cambridge?
Hi everyone, I'm nearing the end of my PhD. This is my last year, and everything is ready to be submitted on time. Most of the process has been smooth for me, and I'm lucky I have the literal best supervisor in the world. Literally, that man is a godsend. Everyone in my Department loves him, and he's won awards for teaching. A+ emotional intelligence, A+ brains too.
The only real obstacle has been my co-supervisor. I didn't necessarily choose him; in my Department it's just kind of normal to have a secondary supervisor. Let's call him Joe. Joe is the worst: severe traditionalist, toxic and problematic (there have been complaints against him by neurodivergent students; he does not do well with the concept of neurodiversity... and also gender rights). Loves the academic rules. Total opposite of my main supervisor; total opposite of me.
We've been clashing since I first came into the PhD, and I'm at the end of my rope. His comments are not productive, and they do not move the needle. He's also just not a fit for the topic at all; he was just randomly assigned to me. Now he's hindering my submission by reiterating that I'm not ready to submit.
But my main supervisor, other faculty, and mentors from my alma mater have read my work and they agree I'm ready. But Joe is making my life hell by asking me to submit completely inconsequential things that don't enhance the work. Or by asking me to send him revisions that don't enhance the work.
I've advocated and set boundaries, but he persists. So I'm deciding to remove him as co-supervisor. This has been years in the making; it's been X years of clashing non-stop. My colleagues joke I have the best patience, because he has a negative reputation in the Department. So this severance is also a symbolic redress for years of bickering LOL.
I want to ask if anyone's done that procedurally-- removed a secondary supervisor? Did you face any pushback?
I don't see it as an option on CamSIS. There's only an option to remove the primary supervisor, which I obviously don't want to do.
Hi! Abdullah here. I've been in Cambridge for a little over a year now, and looking to move on from houseshares to a place that actually resembles a home. More details about my profile here: https://www.spareroom.co.uk/flatmate/16680283
I'm on the university waiting list for rentals, but seems that 2-bed flats are more widely available than studio flats. The Rubicon development caught my eye, with basic rent for 2-beds starting from 1685 GBP. If interested, please send me a message and I'll share more details. Note that I'm just suggesting we apply for a 2-bed Rubicon flat on the waiting list together, there's no guarantee we'll end up getting it.
As mentioned in the title, this is only open to university affiliates as you'll need to register for the accommodation service separately for us to be eligible.
I understand that the Astronomy buildings are being locked down due to an occupation at Greenwich House. Does anyone have more information about this?
EDIT: Should have googled first; https://www.varsity.co.uk/news/28625
I am a mature student at university in my 30s, new to the country. I speak English fluently but see quite a bit of room for improvement, particularly in fluency and accent. I was wondering if I could take some classes during the winter break in Cambridge. There will probably be a bunch of students available, but I’m not sure where to find a tutor. Can someone give me a recommendation?
I’ve been experiencing issues with eduroam constantly requiring me to sign in on each device after 1-2 days, sometimes a week. Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
Specifically for this degree:
Climate Environment and Urban Policy https://www.landecon.cam.ac.uk/course-page/mst-climate-environment-and-urban-policy
If anyone could roughly share in GMT what weekly class schedules have looked like in the last few years, would be helpful. The info was not available online. TIA 🌻
Hi!! It’s a cliché for Cambridge students to be curious and spread rumours about the UL Tower, but given I work here quite a lot the curiosity is basically consuming me from the inside 😭 I know that of late the uni has been more open with access to the tower. In past years there have been tours for students during Easter Term, apparently? I was wondering this kind of thing is still available/possible? Also, I saw in this article that “A member of staff recently used a head camera to record the winding concrete stairs, the books and views across miles of Cambridgeshire countryside.” But I’m unable to find the video… Any help with that would be appreciated too. Thanks in advance! 😁
Does anyone have any recommendations for co-working style places where I can work and take calls (i.e. probably not a library)?
I'm a part-time student (with a full time job) at Judge living away from Cambridge so I only go in a few days a month for events in the evening, and try to work from Cambridge during the day but always struggle to find space. Have tried Judge but it's always jam packed. My college (Hughes) doesn't seem to have any space for this type of thing either.
Keen to get some ideas...
Is it realistic to travel to other European countries/out of Europe during a 10 month MPhil? I’ve spoken to Cambridge graduates and they all were somehow able to do alot of traveling, especially during breaks between terms. And not just talking about back home travel, I’m talking about more “leisure” travel.
If it isn't allowed, I'll remove it of course, but either last Sunday or Monday there was a public talk or speech at a society. I overheard a group of students from the year above talking about it with a lot of enthusiasm. I guess that he is a very well known name by the way they were describing him. They were quoting his wiki page and generally seemed to receive him rather well though said they could see why people criticise him due to the way that his speeches might be perceived as as a bit tangential. Though apparently he brought a written script to read from. And the talk went on quite late and was followed by a drinks reception. Any idea who this was?
Hello! I would like to sublease a 1 room apartment (shared kitchen and bathroom) located in front Jesus Green. Rent per week is 200£ (all inclusive). This room is available immediately until June 28th. Happy to negotiate start and end dates. DM me for more information.
Hi everyone, I'm currently doing the last bit of my MSt and I'm a part-time international student. I'd like to spend the rest of my time (around 6 months) in Cambridge. I work remote. I'm also US citizen, but I would be on a normal Standard Visitor visa. (6 month duration)
I've been looking around on Spareroom, because accom is unfortunately out of the question for me. I'm a bit worried that they require right to rent (although some are under minimum 6 months, so not sure). What should I do?
Anki is a flashcard software that emphasises spaced repetition and regularity, aiming to maximise retention. I think it's useful for students especially in STEMM, and it has a leaderboard plugin. https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/175794613
There's a Cambridge Students' group on there so if people want some extra motivation, you can join that with the password "pidge", and compete to review your cards. idk, just thought some people on here might enjoy it!
Looking for reccs for sunday study spots, college library is always so full and my room makes me go insane lmao. Idm any noise level and prefer not having to spend money (like at a cafe)
