Bow/arrow details: Mathews V3X 33. 30.5 in draw, 69.5 peak weight (75lbs mods in). 31.5” arrow @ 515 grains
Just went to my shop and ran it through the chrono to setup some new arrows. I had 4 arrows read 233FPS and one arrow read 255. Now I know it’s not shooting at its full potential because it is a few pounds off my mods, but that seems ridiculously slow to me. Thoughts?
Hello folks!
Anyone found a file for 3D printing the newer Exo Limb legs for the Mathews Lift?
Thanks!
Grouping at 25yrds with field points. Bought some 100 grain muzzy fixed blades and can't hold them in a 10in circle at the same distance. Is it me or??? Lots of people swear by them. I cannot get them dialed in.
I’ve been targeting a local young (3-4 year) 8 point buck. This is my first year bow hunting.
Back during the early and peak rut, I’d see him way more frequently, I’d see him while out in my neighborhood maybe 1-2 times a day. Now, I’m lucky if I see him once a week.
Theres a pack of does that like to visit my front yard every night after dark. I’ll just gently open a window and shine a floodlight out and lo and behold, there’ll be anywhere from 1 up to 15 does and fawns on my front lawn. Back during peak rut, I’d occasionally see him across the street, sniffing after the bunch. Now, when I see the larger groups of does, he’s nowhere to be found.
From what I’ve read online and heard about my local area, it sounds like we’re past optimal rut but not really in “post rut” yet, if that makes sense. Peak rut is October November and theres a minor second wave of it that occurs in early December. Seems like we’re past that. So if he’s not chasing the does, is he just hiding in the woods alone? Where are all the spikes- I haven’t been seeing them anymore either?
Looking to pick up a compound bow in the next few months to shoot and maybe even hunt with my FIL. I’m 32 now and haven’t shot a bow since I was maybe 11 or 12. So I know nothing.
My local gun range that I am a member of has an archery range and I plan on taking a lesson. From there if I like it I was going to go to the pro shop and pick out a bow with the help of their team there.
I know this is very vague but is there any brand or style in particular that I should look out for? I have a co worker who shoots competitively and she mentioned Hoyt, given the fact that I am sure I will be terrible should I buy a top model now or should I go decent then upgrade later if I enjoy it? 100% open to feedback just want to spend time with my wife’s dad since he is getting older. Thanks!!
So I’m trying to decide between 340 and 300 spine on a new set of Easton 5.0s. My front weight would be 100gr point/ broadhead, with a 50gr Easton half out. My length would be 27.5 or 27 inches. Would I be in the clear to run 340 or should I run 300
Just started in the world of climbing stands from ground hunting.
I’ve always walked to a spot and hunted with the wind in my face. But now I’m in a tree with the wind in my face, as usual, I am lit up in direct sunlight. Should I have faced the other direction for better light coverage? I know being up higher should lessen the interference of my scent.
Just wanted to see everyone’s thoughts. Or should I look into those shades that mount above me.
I’m just starting bow hunting, started late in life, and I was wondering if anyone might have some advice for ground blind hunting deer? I’m used to shotgun hunting primarily, so bow is something completely new to me.
I would eventually like to get into spot and stalk style hunting, I have a few farmers who will let me hunt but won’t let me put up tree stands so I’m limited to ground blind and spot/stalk.
After using my Bear Legit this season (my first archery season) and getting a feel for archery and bowhunting I decided I was never going to stop and became hopelessly addicted.
Although there's nothing wrong with my bear and I actually still love that bow, I decided it was time to upgrade, I needed a longer ATA bow that was smoother, faster and had some adjustability. I settled on an Elite Omnia, and at the price I paid I practically stole it.
I threw a whisker biscuit on for some quick close range shots into the foam to see how it felt, and an extra sight that I had on my work bench just to see how it looked, I think it looks slick and shoots great. Super dead in the hand, quiet, and very fast. The difference is insane.
Like I said I haven't even installed a peep or shot it further than 3 yards or so but I'm excited to see how I progress with this bow. I'll start building it and practicing with it after whitetail season ends. Any Elite or Omnia owners out there?
Hello Everyone,
Aside from obtaining my license, gear, and knowledge of law and regulations; how does a beginner with no prior experience start bow hunting in NJ. Do I need to join a club or pay for a guided hunt? I would ideally like to saddle hunt on public land but do not know anyone who hunts and can let me tag alone. Could you guys guide me in the right direction?
Got a good deal on one of these, impulse buy. It's replacing a five-pin that I really don't like.
Anyone have experience with the sight who'd be willing to provide insight? Do you like it, any setup tips, tips for using it, etc?
Thanks.
Been hunting this guy all year long. Every bit of free time I’ve had in good wind/weather conditions, etc. Over 100 hours in the saddles no doubt. Finally showed up at 20 yards. Didn’t feel comfortable with a frontal shot. Winds was a little swirly, acted like he caught a little bit of mine and jumped back 12 yards, set my pin in a rush and drew back. Ducked, and Shot right over his back. I haven’t felt this sick in a long time. He might not be a pope and young buck but he’s a damn fine tag to fill in western North Carolina. This feeling sucks.
I am just getting into hunting and thinking about picking up a compound bow. It seems like an interesting challenge and possibly more versatile than a single firearm (I've mostly gone for small game with friends so far). It looks like the answer to most bow questions in here are to take it to a shop. Here's my problem: I live in the Yukon, with no archery shop.
There are definitely people here doing a lot of compound bow hunting. There are places to take lessons and learn. I've been given contact information of people who are willing to set up bows for newcomers and all sorts of things. But realistically, how frequently are you running to the bow shop? I also think investing in my own tuning gear (and learning how to use it) is ambitious for now.
In terms of buying a bow, I have the opportunity to spend time in places with bow shops where I CAN shoot lots of models and find a good one. But setting it up and maintenance after getting it back here is a huge question mark right now. Any thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.
First deer with a compound I used a cross bow for a few years so I try not to hate on people for it 😂
So i REALLY want to shoot a single bevels idk why they just tickled my fancy, so I have a question in regards to fletching.
From my understanding you need helical fletchings in the correct orientation so is this something you buy or is is done with a standard fletching and bending on install.
Also can this be done with 2” veins or do I need 4” ?
I’m super new to all this any info will help.
My set up is as follows:
Bow: Blackout Nv-3 (Omnia and envision had a baby with no set tech)
Arrows: X3 Hunters aka Gold tip Hunter XT Points: 125gr small game/fieldpoint (Someone help me decide on a broadhead)
Nocks blackout lighted nocks blue (I love the color change)
Release aid: tru-fire edge FT
Sight: Trophy Ridge H5 React
Arrow rest: some shit whisker biscuit from trophy. QAD drop away hopefully coming soon.
Stabilizer: trophy ridge I forget the model but I’m thinking I’ll switch to a stubby sometime soon
Is t His a good solid bow for a beginner/noob getting into the game
Hello, I literally just got a compound bow today and I am a little overwhelmed on the amount of information that I don’t know where to start. I have little to no experience when it comes to bows or hunting. I was hoping you fine people can point me in the right direction.
What everyone’s opinion of arrow weights
New to the sport. Looking for a decent bow brand to cut my teeth on that won't break the bank. Opinions?
Kinda a light load, will stop at the gas station in the morning for some goodie. I’ll be out for the majority of the morning and then briefly again before last light. Living in a rural area has its perks sometimes, it’s nice to get done hunting in the morning and get home and do shit through the day and head back out. Anyway just figured I’d share my set up.
I’ve been pretty much using antiques up until now. Looking for a new recurve in the 60-70lb range. I know Bear probably isn’t the top brand anymore but I would like to hear all your thoughts and opinions.
I cannot get my local game and fish to return my call. In my state the minimum poundage is 35#. At my draw I usually pull 6# higher than the poundage at 28". Not saying I will, but would that mean a 30# at 28" would be legal, or would it mean a minimum of 35# at 28" is legal?
Im going hunting soon with my longbow on my in laws property on 55 acres. Im just going to be hunting from the ground. I dont really have any expectations except to learn. Let me know if you guys have any tips for someone with no experience.
