This is my first year bowhunting and using a crossbow just shot a nice Der it hunched back then lunged forward ran about 30 yards then stopped for a few min then walked off can't see my arrow any tips?
I don’t have one of those lap rails on my stand so basically nowhere to put my crossbow except in my lap and hold onto it to keep from accidentally falling. The 2-pt shoulder sling I carry it to my stand with isn’t long enough to hang it around my neck and than raise it to shoot. It would also be uncomfortable around my neck! Any other ideas or set-ups you all use that works well?
I am looking to buy my first crossbow for whitetail deer hunting and am looking for recommendations on a good crossbow for around $700 or less.
I've been having some issues with my serving string wearing out really quickly. Two string, probably less than 100 shots on each and the serving wears out where the ceasefire mechanism holds the string back both times.
Has anyone else had this problem? Am I doing something wrong? I use rail lube and string wax. The only place I am seeing wear is at the points the bowstring is held back.
I have a Parker Crossbow that shoots 305 FPS. I am using muzzy fixed broad heads 100ggrain. With field points 100grain. In my practice with the field points I am able to shoot 4 inch groups at 40 yards. I have nothing to compare that to. I also shoot .22 lr matches so 4 inch groups seem pretty crappy. Any general thoughts. What kinda of accuracy should I be arriving to attain. I really don't want to wound a deer but would love to take one with the crossbow. Any pointers or thoughts that would be helpful would be greatly appreciated.
I just picked up a koller instinct bc 415 looking to go out for mule deer to moose what broadheads would you like using
I recently purchased a Centerpoint Wrath 430 & I intend to use it for whitetail here in Minnesota. What Broadheads would you guys recommend? Thank you
I’m brand new to this and have been browsing different stores online just looking at stuff . I’m about to embark on a YouTube quest to just learn more and become familiar and well versed when it comes to crossbows and archery and hunting in general I suppose . I’m 26 and in Virginia. I would love to go hunting this year but it might not work out that way since I have no equipment yet and I’m not in a rush . Plus I’d like to go with at least one other person and I have zero friends who do this . Maybe Facebook will have a group too. Anyway if anyone has any advice on what I should be looking for in terms of fps . I’d like to be able to kill large game with my crossbow to give you an idea. Any advice or responses is appreciated I’m also thinking about getting a compound bow or traditional bow too eventually but Ima get the crossbow first . Good hunting areas in or around va ? Your personal experiences with certain equipment ? Anything at all I’m just tryna get into this shit thanks yall stay hydrated
I wanted to add the #1966 S5 string shock sound suppression system to my good old exocet.
there is a fitment issue, while the frame is drilled for the bolts, they don't quite align perfectly.
Has anyone else had this issue? got a resolution? I've got an email into excalibur but I don't imagine I'll get a response for a few days.
I see a few possibilities for solutions:
Buy a different set of parts and see if it's a Q/C or fitment issue unique to the part.
Drill/file the hole in frame to make fit. (not keen on damaging the anodized finish)
File the angled mating surface to adjust the geometry (would pull the supressor away from the string a few thousandths)
thanks in advance
What are some of the best fixed blade broadheads to use for a crossbow that shoots around 375fps. I need something that is very field point accurate, any suggestions?
I’m new to crossbows or bows in general. There’s a used 10 year old Tenpoint Titan HLX with a hard case for sale nearby. Would this be a good crossbow for a beginner and potential crossbow hunter? What would you pay for one that’s in?
Earlier this morning, I took a shot at a decent buck, at least for me. The shot was decent—I followed up the leg and aimed about mid-body. The shot might have been slightly more to the right than I wanted, but to my surprise, after I took the shot, the bolt barely penetrated the deer. It hit him, and as he started to run, after about his third step, the bolt snapped off.
The buck ran about 30 yards before stopping for a moment. He stumbled slightly, then took off, never to be seen or found again. There were only about four drops of blood total, so it's safe to say the buck will be fine.
However, I’m confused about what happened. I shoot 300-grain bolts with 100-grain SEVR 1.75-inch broadheads 400gr total). I’m fairly certain I didn’t hit the shoulder, though I guess it’s possible. Still, I feel like my setup should have gotten more than just 2 inches of penetration.
I’m new to archery hunting and trying to figure out what went wrong, or where I hit him, so I can correct myself. Does anyone have any idea where my shot might have gone, based on this information? The bolt didn’t snap until he started running
What is everyone’s favorite way to crossbow hunt? On the ground, in a tree or a blind?
Personally, I love getting on the ground with a crossbow.
I hunt in a tree with my compound but find it overly challenging to use it on the ground. I enjoy the intimacy of ground hunting, so later in the year when it’s really cold (WI) I hunker down on the ground with my crossbow.
Hey guys, So I need new strings for my recurve crossbow and I don't know what string length I need. Do I need to look for the same length of the crossbow's uncocked width? Mine is 36.2". Thanks!
Noticed one of my fasteners for my scope mount was missing and I am having a tough time finding a replacement online. Are fasteners for scopes universal or would I be better off going to a hardware store. Bonus points if you can tell me the size I need
Looking to get some dampeners for my ten point. Any recommendations for aftermarket before I get ten points system?
I use a Barnett Whitetail Special STR crossbow (375 fps). Last season, I tried the TenPoint Evo X broadheads but didn’t like them. This year, I’m thinking of trying G5 Megameats for crossbows, but there are so many options and mixed reviews. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hi All, hoping someone could help me. I bought a used crossbow from eBay and it came without the string. Hoping someone could take a picture of how the string is wound on theirs. I ordered a new string from Killer Instinct already.
I just bought my first crossbow for this fall here in WI and the scope thar came with it is straight doo doo trash. It wouldn't sight in anywhere near the point of impact. If you could suggest some good scopes that are decently priced and won't hace its guts rearranged by 405fps bow, I'd really appreciate it. Preferably ones with a good warranty like Leapers/UTG or Hawke.
Thanks y'all
I've been out of hunting for a while, getting back into it this season with my sons. I've never heard of killer instinct crossbows, is this a newer company with quality products or should I pass on shopping them?
I've got a Barnett Whitetail Pro STR, rated @400FPS with 380 grain. I'm interested in stepping the weight up in my bolts both to increase the life of my limbs and string but also to put more power into my shots for larger game like Whitetail and Elk.
I'm interested in the Carbon Express Piledriver 22" Bolts which come in at 479 grain with 100 grain head. Now, my question is - Would it be better to run 100 grain, 125 grain or 150 grain heads for total grain in bolt of 479, 509 or 529 respectively? Do you have experience with these weights? (Broadheads I'm looking at are the TOTA 4-blades)
I'm interested in hearing about your experiences.
I have this centerpoint crossbow I want to sell but I have no idea where to
I bought a set 20 inch crossbow bolts, the training head it comes with is 125 grain and the broad heads it comes with are 100 grain, will this make that much of a difference?
I don’t know why they would make them 25 grains heavier for the practice heads, but it seems to be a pretty common thing. Can someone explain that to me?
I’m looking to get into crossbow hunting, but I just had a baby so money is tight. They have those bows for $250 at farm and fleet. Would it do the trick? Should I pull the trigger? (See what I did there?)
I have a spot in southern Spain, which I'm allowed to go hunting. I'm a relatively experienced air rifle and rifle shooter and hunter, but I decided to switch to the crossbow so I don't put lead in the food I eat, and to make make it easier to transport on planes I'm very very confused about which brand to go for because all the recommended ones seems to only be available in America. Does anyone have any recommendations for brands available in Europe?
Someone recommended me this, but honestly, I'm not sure
