I'd like to gift designing his own beer to my husband

My husband is hitting 40 this year and I'd like to surprise him with the following experience:

  • he could design his beer
  • name his beer
  • it would be brewed at the brewery
  • it would be canned with a custom label I'll provide
  • the cans would be shipped to him

Does this experience exist? If so, could you recommend me any breweries I could contact? We are located in the New York metro area. Thanks a bunch in advance!

Delerium tremens date code on can.

Can anyone help me with a question? I just bought a 4 pack of delerium tremens in cans. I was wondering about the date code it had on the bottom of the can. Can anyone tell me the date?

Is Chimay Blue in the same league as other Quads or Strong Dark Ales?

Tried it a couple of times and thought it was underwhelming. It's somewhat easy to find here in Brazil, but even compared to local Quadrupels it wasn't that remarkable. To be honest I think I enjoyed Delirium Nocturnum (which is classified as a Strong Dark Ale, but I've seen Chimay Blue classified one as well, the line between Quadrupels and Dark Strong Ales seem blurry) much more than Chimay Blue, which is good as the Nocturnum is also somewhat common here.

What are your opinions on Chimay Blue? Are the other Trappist Quads better? Any recommendations for less obscure/easier to find Quads(trappist or not) or Strong Dark Ales?

Difference between muling and proxying

I have been a proxy for a few years and after talking to a few friends and searching online, I can't find a clear distinction of how muling is different from proxying and the rules to each in the trading community. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Pseudo Sue recipe change, tastes like raw hop pellets

Noticed a few days ago at a local pub that Pseudo Sue had moved places on the tap list, which seemed odd, considering its recurring nature on said list. I then realized the ABV had dropped from what I believe used to be 6.8% down to 5.8%. Strange... could be a typo. It's happened before, but not likely, considering the tap list is auto-generated and printed via Untappd, and I highly doubt Toppling Goliath would make such an error.

The next logical step was to order it and have a taste. I wouldn't have described it as anything like the many Pseudo Sues which graced my palate previously. Thin. Weirdly sweet. Tastes like staight-up raw Citra hop pellets soaked in water (I brew fairly often and use Citra a lot...and have actually made hop water using cryo Citra). My buddy, also a brewer and huge fan of Pseudo, shared the same opinion. I saw another person who almost exclusively drinks it take a few sips and then turn the glass away.

So the next logical step was ask a wider audience to possibly confirm or deny this hopefully extremely rare and non-recurring anomaly. šŸ™šŸ¤žšŸ»

American online beer bottle shops

Hello,

I am from the Netherlands and I am looking for some help about american webshops where I can order beers.

Where I live I don't see Allot of american beers and if I do they are limited per person or the snobs /tickers are faster then me.

I already have the way to get it from America to me so the shop doesnt has to ship international but I don't want to burden them with searching for the beers and such since they don't drink beer. I want to buy the bigger bottles if Available and more then 1.

I am looking how ever for certain brewerys

Alesmith Avery Founders Hill farmstead Left hand 3 floyds Hair of the dog Firestone walker Goose island The lost abbey Oscar blues Toppling goliath

I searched the subreddit for shop but that didn't get me that far as I hoped. Or I just searched wrong.

I would appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Cellar questions.

I have a cellar with a few bottles of imperial stouts and porters and such. Most of what I have saved for a few years have been the Deschutes Black Butte anniversary beers. I have 2 bottles of each 25 through 30. Will these beers keep in the crawl space of my house for a few more years (3-4 years)? Just wasn't sure with the black Butte 25s being released back in 2013. Also have some goose island BCS (2015, 2016), and other similar beers.

Thanks for the help.

Ranking Beers

I recently went to a beer tasting and appreciation meet. I couldn't believe all the types from Lagers thru to Stouts ( black / dark beer ) What i want to know is why hasn't someone done a list of chart of the ranking of beers with all their qualities ie alcohol content, type , clarity, colour, taste etc. And in a simple format so we are best informed when we but rather than buying the same old same old beer all the time.

Need recommendations for a beer here. Please help

Okay so first off I live in Texas

(Back story) I have a game night every Friday and my roommate usually joins us for it. A liquor store opened up walking distance down the street. So now he buys Vodka or Jack Daniels for game night. However, Liquor does not work for gamenight. He becomes incoherent to the point where you can't follow rules nor sit down. He behaves well, but he can be against the game night really.

He drinks or used to drink Budlight Platinum because it was cheapest beer with the highest alcohol content. He mostly hates beer and hes tried many, but he just wants to get to the fastest drunk state possible for cheap.

TL;DR So, I'm wondering, what is an alternative beer (doesn't have to be cheap because I will buy) that will have maybe alittle more alcohol content than Budlight platinum? That isn't too far off in taste I guess. I know he doesn't like Fat tire or Angry Orchard, and hes So-so on Blue moon.

(keep in mind, I want him drunk but not vodka drunk). So something over 6% but less than 30%.

This is easily better than the same old crap you get at r/beer without all the moderator ego as well.

Cheers to this sub.

First time shipping advice

Hey there,

I'm setting up for my first beer trading session, and wanted to make sure I'm fully informed. A few questions:

  • Officially, UPS and FedEx say it's illegal to ship beer without being a licensed business, but people seem to do this all the time obviously. Do they just not look inside or is it not illegal?

  • What is the simplest and most cost effective shipping method? I'm currently looking at around 18 beers to ship the first time, and possibly up to 18 the second time too. The second trade might be notably after the first, so I could maybe reuse the box I receive from the first for the second. But what's the cost per box, and what other stuff do you recommend I get to put inside to be most simple and cost effective? And how much will the shipping cost itself usually be?

  • I'm in the south. It's been 80-90 degrees the past couple days, but there will be a few 70 degree days at the end of next week. Up north where I'd be shipping/receiving from, there's snow. Will the heat down here really be an issue? Should I specifically aim to drop it off just before one of the 70 degree days or is there anything I can do to keep the box from heating up and skunking?

  • Anything else I should know?

Thanks

Beer recommendations for the DC area

Heading to DC next month with some friends and we like beer. I checked out some of the local brewpubs online, but it's hard to figure out the best one to visit. We won't have much time there, so we don't want to waste our time at an over-rated place. Would be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks!

Casey Leaner release - December 3, 2017

Hello!

First time poster here - not sure which subreddit makes the most sense, but I'm looking for someone who may have an extra ticket to the Leaner release at Casey Brewing and Blending for either the 11am or 2am slot on Sunday, December 3rd. Not looking to score the extra bottles; my wife and I each got one ticket to the above times, and would like to find someone who has an extra ticket they could offer for entrance, so we can spend time at the brewery together. Any help is greatly appreciated - thank you!!

Other Half release suggestions

I'm sure this has probably been addressed a dozen times, but can anyone give a newbie some advice on going to a can release at Other Half? I'm looking to go to the one this Saturday (9/23). What is a good time to get there? More importantly, what is the parking situation? I went on street view and saw there is a McDonald's right near there, but I can't imagine they'd be too thrilled about us parking there. Any help would be appreciated!

All jokes aside, this was a great beer and I recommend picking it up before it's no longer available.
