Eliminated ads with English-Canadian voice - now radio station won’t play

So I changed my echo show to use the English Canadian voice. And it did the trick! None of that stupid homescreen stuff anymore! Always the clock! Woo Hoo! BUT one thing that is really weird. I listen to the radio brent skill on it. Fantastic commercial free deep cuts classic rock. Anyway, it will not load/play when the show is set to English-Canadian. I tested this by switching back to regular english, and it played again (but I got the homescreen baloney). Anyone have a solution? I mean, I can always listen to radio paradise instead, but I’d like to have no ads and radio brent. I know the station owner (Brent). Are there some settings he can check in his skill dashboard or anything like that?

Echo 8 doesn't recognize tv properly

Hi! Just got an echo show 8 as a gift from my employer and I already had a Fire TV at home. I linked it in every way possible to the Echo device but most of the times I ask her to do something (besides turning on/off and basic activites) it doesn't work. I don't have any other devices linked.

For example, phrases like "Open Netflix on the TV" and she will say she couldn't find device named (my name)'s TV. Or when trying to use multi-speakers on Everywhere she will often times not play anything on the TV, only on Echo and says on screen that "some devices are not available". Both are in the same wifi network. Does anyone have this issue? What's strange is that this is a TV by Amazon, so shouldn't it be the easiest and most-recognizable device?

Also, my Alexa is set for English/Portuguese but she frequently replies in Portuguese or misunderstands what we're saying when we're speaking English. Is it best to keep it with only one language?

Oh and I just remembered, Spotify no longer shows up in the "Skills" section under Routines. It's only been a week since I got her so I don't know what could have caused this and can't seem to make it show up again.

Sorry if this is a lot, I appreciate any help! Just trying to make the best use of her :)

Everywhere group stop just one speaker

This seems simple but I can’t find the solution: I have 8 echos scattered throughout my house. Some in common areas, some in bedrooms. They are all in the everywhere group. There are times when I want music playing everywhere but one. Is there a way I can wander in to a room and ask it to stop playing in that room without creating every combination of speaker group?

Thanks y’all.

Echo Show 5 Volume

So I have just set up my new echo show 5 (3rd gen) and I feel like it’s not that loud when playing music?

Alexa’s voice is so loud so I know it goes louder, but even with the volume fully up I feel like my music isn’t that loud. Is this something I can change or just how it is?

How to remove the voices in a song?

I was just listening to a song I like and when it was finishing I asked Alexa to play it again and she did but with the voices almost entirely mutated. How did this happen and how can I do this again?

Echo Spot Outlet Mount

Does anyone know if there’s an echo spot outlet mount available like the one pictured for the echo pop? I know the spot is bigger than the pop, so I don’t believe they’re compatible. I haven’t seen anything on Amazon, just wasn’t sure if anyone had any insight one potentially available somewhere else. Thanks!

Can someone help with a strange issue I am having

I am trying to fix am issue for my granddad and I have tried everything I can think of and everything on the forums except reseting the echo show (which I think is unnecessary)

When I drop in or call from his phone to the echo show, the echo show just has a black screen with the little rectangular box of the show's camera. On the phone I can see myself and the person the other end (echo show side) but they can't see me.

I have tried updating everything. Reinstalling the alexa app. When I do it from my phone or any other devices it works normally so I don't think it is the echo show. I think it may be something to do with the app.

I tried it with an Internet connection of around 30/20 and one faster. The phone that is not doing it right is an honor 10 lite (android 9 so should be fine I think) The echo is an echo show 5(latest updates) Internet about 150/150 But the same issue on the echo show 8 they have too Also if any more info is needed I'll be happy to send what's needed. Any help would be amazing. I am happy to try anything really as they just want it fixed.

Many thanks in advance

Second Generation echo show keeps playing jeopardy

Despite us never setting up the feature and trying to do everything we can to make it stop, my families' second generation echo show keeps playing jeopardy every night at exactly 8:00. We have looked everywhere in the Alexa app and in the setting menu and can't find a way to turn it off. Is there something we're missing or do we just need to factory reset it?

Issues Adding New Echo Spot to Existing Speaker Group

I received my new Echo Spot yesterday and the setup was seamless, everything up and running no problem. But I can't seem to add it to my existing speaker group (called Everywhere).

When I go to Edit the group and scan for new devices, it doesn't detect the new Spot.

I created a brand new group (called Chores) and while it seemed to be successful on the app, asking Alexa to play something on the Chores group results in her saying something like "I can't find anything called Chores that can play music".

It also won't allow me to create a custom name for a group. When I click on custom name, the keyboard appears for a millisecond, then it's gone.

I'm debating uninstalling then re-installing the app but I have so many lights and devices and Echoes, I'm loathe to start from scratch.

Would re-installing it mean I'd have to connect each device again like new or would it know enough to populate it itself?

Ant suggestions would be appreciated!

Echo auto no sound when android auto is on (Motorola wireless adapter).

I can't get sound out of it, when I say Alexa the blue light comes on but not sound. I've tried going into various inputs on my car but nothing.

Tried unplugging, I even removed and added back the echo auto. When I did that it actually worked for a hot minute and could her sound during serio and then it just cuts out and no more sound.

2020 Audi and my pixel 8 pro.

It's the first gen auto, I did order the newer one during prime day.

Any ideas on this?

Does anyone know how I can get an echo loop?

I am in the UK and I can’t seem to find any. I am blind and this would help so so much in my daily life, having my phone out is putting me at risk, long story and talking on your watch is just… I also use Alexa a lot to help with my disability, so this would improve my life a lot. If anyone has one they wouldn’t mind letting go of, I am happy to pay what ever, please let me know. Thanks so much in advance.

Amazon Just Told Me Echo Show is only built to last 5 years

I’ve been trying to understand what happened to my echo show. I purchased it in 2019, it is a 2nd gen. Never had any issues until one day the software bricked it.

I’ve read other posts in this sub with even more recent generations of the Amazon echo show having issues with a software update and getting it bricked.

Their solution is for you to purchase another and expect to replace it every 5 years.

I’m appalled. It’s one thing to have a device slow down or not work as well cause it’s outdated but my echo show won’t even make it past the Amazon logo. Mind you, my 2019 echo dot works fine.

Anyway, I spent 2 hours with customer service to learn this. Also pro tip, when your device inevitably fails at 5 years…do not go through the online chat. Just talk on the phone, it went by much quicker.

Their device complaint number is 877-375-9365.

Any ideas on an alternative smart home display? Or what to do with my useless echo show? I’ve never had to throw away something in excellent condition.

Linking Apple Music

I have multiple echo devices. Some older gen, some newer. In the past three years I've regularly tried to link my Apple Music and it always says it links successfully buy as soon as I try to do anything it says I need to link an account. I'm guessing this is a pretty common issue from what I've read elsewhere but no one seems to know how to fix the issue. Does anyone here have any ideas?

The magic door… Please help! My sanity is at risk.

I’ve been playing the magic door on my Alexa for weeks now. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to find the damn wizard. I’ve listened to walk-throughs on YouTube and they all say something about having to concoct a potion to build a tower in the clouds in the rose garden. I don’t know how to find the ingredients for the potion, and I can’t even find the elf to get his flute. Can somebody please help me before I smash this thing to bits?? It’s driving me insane!

Echo Show facial recognition

Hey all, I'm very confused by what is actually happening with my Echo Show 8. We have the device in our kitchen, and theres 6 of us in the home. Only 2 of us have profiles on the Alexa, and Visual ID is turned off for both of us. However, anytime one member of the family (whom does not have a profile) walks past/glances at the Echo Show, Alexa starts announcing the news or other random facts of whats going on in the world...

I've tried googling this, and we've tested it with other family members, but it only happens when this one person looks at it.

Does anyone have insight and how to make it stop?

Trick/Traps when moving echo sub from one stereo pair to another?

Hi Everyone. I currently have a stereo pair (2 Echo 3rd Gens) plus an echo sub. They're also set up as the home theater for my firetv 4k max. I just bought two studios and I want to create a stereo pair and move the sub to that new pair of studios. I remember when I first set up the sub it was a little tricky to add it to the stereo pair. I found some good guidance in this subreddit that wasn't listed in the instructions from amazon (I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the order in which each device was activated). When I select the sub in the devices section of the app under "Connected Devices" I see "Speaker Pair". When I tap "Speaker Pair" I get taken to the Home Theater setup instead of the speaker pair setup. It looks like I can disconnect the sub from the home theater, but if I do that will it be disconnected from the stereo pair as well? Should I just delete the home theater setup, then remove the sub from the stereo pair, then setup the studios as a stereo pair, then add the sub to that pair? (in that order). Are there any traps or pitfalls of doing it that way (or is there another order or anything else I should be doing? Thanks so much

Amazon Echo Show 15 Photo frame help

Hello! Im looking on some insight regarding the photo frame function on the device. I have a few albums connected to my Echo 15 and I noticed that certain pictures in each album show up a few times. Especially when I use Photo Frame mode. There are thousands of pictures but a select couple keep repeating during the 3 hour Photo Frame session.

Long story short, I went into Amazon Photos and found those pictures. I went in and changed the dates on some pictures and also added dates to pictures that didnt have them and noticed that those pictures stopped showing up. After restarting the device I would get new pictures and eventually noticed a new set of pictures repeating just like before.

I then noticed the same thing on my Fire TV but NOT on my Echo 8. Does anyone know why this happens or how to stop this from happening every time? Its annoying to have to keep changing data on the repeats just to get more repeats. Any input or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Echo 2nd gen in 2024

Hey guys, I am getting a crazy good deal on used Echo devices and one of them caught my eye, it’s a 2nd gen Echo and it’s in very good condition, I know the seller well so I can return it.

Do you think a 2nd gen Echo is worth buying in 2024 considering it was released like 5-6 years ago?

… the current devices are super expensive even with the prime day discounts and they are the basic ones like Echo Pop or Echo dot.

Its the normal echo and not the echo dot and I'm getting it for 23 usd

Stop Echo notifcations entirely

Does anybody know how to stop all notifications messages, warnings etc on an echo device without a screen? We have an echo plus first gen and use it to play music in our baby room at night then all of a sudden alexa balls her head off and wakes her up! It's so annoying lol. I have tried the below

Device settings via alexa app

Set sounds Notification to none.

Set do not disturb mode on.

Adaptive listening off

On General Settings on the app

Disabled Alexa Device notifications on the things to try along with most of the other notifications.

Is there just a fully mute all for one device?

How to DISABLE Echo Show 8 (3rd gen) from going to HOME screen? Infuriating!

How on Earth do I stop my Echo Show 8 from going automatically to the HOME screen all the time? It's really infuriating when I have paused a video or a recipe (or just about anything) and then I walk away to do some other thing and when I come back the Echo Show has gone back to the Home screen and I've lost whatever it is I was paused on.

For example if I'm watching a video on YouTube and I decide to pause it, after 10 minutes BOOM! I come back to the Home screen and I have to go searching for the video all over again.

I've disable just about everything I can think of in the settings but nothing seems to work.

Being able to pause and return to a video/site/page really should be a minimum requirement for a device like this.

Does ‘Do Not Disturb’ actually mute everything?

I’m well aware reminders will still come through, I don’t mind that because I don’t use them.

I basically don’t want my echo show to ever speak at me. All these unnecessary notifications like announcing that it’s preformed an update and whatnot are incredibly frustrating. Is that possible and is do not disturb the answer to that?

Will that also keep my volume at 0 because right now it just loves to put itself back up.

Thank you.

I have 2 Echo and they sound different. Help

Hi all,

I just bought 2 amazon Echo 4gen during the Prime Day to use them as Home Theater speaking with my Fire TV Max. I installed them straight as stereo and configured as Home Theater. I was noticing a "strange" sound quality.

So I uninstalled them as separate units and, switching between them on Spotify, it's clearly audible that they sound a lot different. I can't say that one is better than the other. They are just different. One is "boomier" and a bit more "muffled", the other is "clearer" but with less bass and "ambient".

This is quite annoying using them in stereo.

Anyone of you experienced the same behaviour?

Would you suggest me to return them both and order a new couple? (because I can't say wich one is the "standard sounding")

Thanks

"Play BBC World Service" is now interpreted as "Play BBC World Service UK"

My issues is in the title. And as I don't love in the UK, a pre-recorded (and continuous) message tells me that I can't listen to BB World Service UK!

"Play BBC World Service" worked perfectly until yesterday, 16 July 2024.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or better still, resolved this?
