Limit brightness at night

I have lutron caseta switches running on smartthings and I am wondering if there is a way to keep the lights are 30% brightness during the evening hours. I have them set to turn down at 8:00pm but then its to easy to accidentally turn them back up.

Manual task automation

I feel like a lot of discussion is always based around automating software or computer task making technology easier with technology which is cool.

Often we are over looking or just haven’t found the best way to automate manual labor task.

The best one I have implemented in my life so far is automation of mowing my lawn.

Automatic Lawn Mower

I have loved this as I don’t have to spend hours a month mowing the lawn and it’s always perfectly cut every day.

What other task out there have people automated that the are usually manual labor?! I wish I could automate my trash being taken out every week to the curbside.

Sharptools rules disappeared

Has anyone else just had their sharptools rules just disappear? I went to review and noticed sharptools was no longer connected to smart things and all of my rules are gone. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Can I disable the battery notification?

I got a notification in the middle of the night that the battery on one of my switches was less than 100%. It woke me up and initially scared me because I thought I had a home invasion. Does anyone know how to disable these notifications?

Any way to find older history from Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor and to export it from the Alexa app?

I just realized the data only goes back to April 1, but I've had it since December. Does anyone know if the app still has the older data and is limiting it being displayed and if there's any way to export it?

Trying to register my phone again to tv, "Device already registered"

I am so incredibly confused and i don't know what I'm supposed to do. I removed the connection cuz the app told me that it wasn't working due to not connecting to the tv with SmartThings in a really long time

But now when i try to add my tv to SmartThings again, it says that the device is already registered...yeah, TO MY OWN ACCOUNT. I am connected to MY ACCOUNT on MY TV and on MY PHONE. The very same account on both. So WHY do i keep getting this error? It's not like i can invite myself to control the device (tried it).

This is absolutely ridiculous, please if anyone knows what to do, this is legit driving me insane. Can't even factory reset the tv due to not having a working remote.

P.s want to add that the only reason I'm going through this headache is because my remote control decided not to work anymore, so the only choice I'd have to even be able to use my tv is by using my phone as a remote control through SmartThings since this stupid ass tv doesn't have any buttons on the tv itself. So if I'm not able to figure this out, i might as well not have a tv until i get a new remote.

Smart tag to stop losing things

Hello,

I'd like some recommendations of smart tag other than samsung's or apple's. Good and affordable. I'll probably import some.

Is there anything to convert a dumb ceiling fan into a smart ceiling fan with speed control without also controlling power to the light bulb?

I have Philips Hue lights everywhere and I have two ceiling fans I would like to control with voice commands and my phone. For a few years now, I have had a simple zigbee smart controller installed in the canopies and wired only to the ceiling fan portion. However, they can only turn on and off so for speed control I still have to pull on the chain like a caveman! Is there anything else I can install inside the canopy that will also give me speed control? Preferably z-wave or zigbee. Would this device work?

EDIT: Looks like I found my solution!

Anybody have any success with location tracking?

Two iPhone that use location services and it’s so unreliable. Every other day I have to open the app and to force it to know I have left or arrived a home. Isn’t this supposed to be in the background without having to manually open the app? Am I alone here?

Disable the auto-disconnection?

I have Smart things connected to the TVs in my house. I don't often watch TV in the basement (the kids and our cats are down there a lot) so it disconnects after the app "hasn't been used recently". Is there a way to disable this feature? The major benefit of the app is that I don't have to search for the remote, especially since the kids and cats are not the most responsible in terms of where they leave the remote.

(Or even if someone could offer rationale for why the auto-disconnect feature is necessary? Part of my frustration is I genuinely don't understand why that's a feature)

Motion as a trigger?

I have a Brilliant Control Panel which integrates with SmartThings.

Brilliant has motion triggers for lights, but it will turn the light all the way on, not "20%" on or anything (I wanted to have dim light if going to the bathroom). Is there any way this would be possible using SmartThings instead (perhaps with a different dimmer)?

Related, is it possible to use a motion (during certain hours) to trigger an entire scene?

For example, motion in the kitchen at 6:30am triggers a "Good Morning" scene?

Brookstone Smart Camera

I know this probably isn't the right sub for this but I couldn't find it.

I have a Brookstone Smart Camera that connects and everything then when I go to look at it in the app it says it's not located in my home and won't connect. It's the white round top camera that rotates all way around. I can post pics if needed.

I click it an then it says device not found in your current home or either the app crashed. I've tried reconnecting, resetting, restarting my router and modem, unplugging it, everything I can think of.

It did this the other day but eventually it worked right. I went to use it again today an it's doing this again. All I can think is just get another one because there's nothing else I know to do.

Has anyone else having issues with the routines showing in individual devices page?

Normally when I troubleshooting, change or add a routine I go to one of the devices involved in the routine and go to that device routine section where it shows all the routines that devices is involved in. Since a couple of weeks this section has stopped working no routines are shown in any devices and I have to go to the routines page to find the routine I'm looking for which is tedious.

Yesterday I check my wife phone and the app was working as expected, so it seems to be something on my end. Any idea what could it be?

What I have already done:

  1. Restart the app
  2. Clear cache
  3. Clear data

Aeotec Hub & Error 39-513

I have been using the Smartthings Station, which hasn't been particularly stable. So I upgraded to the Aeotec Hub and connected it using ethernet. Setup went fine, but the Hub refuses to connect to any WiFi connected devices. When I try to add the Tapo Matter switch over wifi, I get error 39-513. If I try using an iPhone, the error comes with the explanation to make sure the Hub is on the same wifi network. Which sort of does not apply... then when I try to set up the Smartthings Station as a secondary hub, it also complains it could not connect to the Hub. Connecting an ethernet connected Hue bridge through matter did work, sort of.

I had no issues connecting the wifi matter switch to the Smartthings Station, Alexa, or HomeKit though matter. Any ideas how to fix this?

Lutron Caseta switches disconnecting from Smartthings Aeotec Hub

I posted this over in Lutron and got a bunch of "Get rid of smartthings" so I'm wondering if anyone here can offer help that might not require me to rebuild my entire smarthome just to get these switches to work like they should.

I built my smart home about 2 years ago and went with a smartthings hub and Lutron switches in most places because everyone says Lutron switches are the “most reliable”. I have the Lutron hub which all the switches connect to. Then I use the connect service option in smartthings which brings over all the switches to smartthings for automations. Unfortunately about once a month I have to go down into the basement to unplug and replug the Lutron bridge and then use the smartthings app to reconnect for my automations to work. It’s especially annoying cause this usually happens when I try to run the bedtime routine from my 3rd floor bedroom under the covers.

So my question is, did I get a bad bridge or am I doing something wrong with this setup? Are other people using Lutron with Smartthings successfully? My kasa wifi switches have been working perfectly this entire time with no issues and if I can't get a solution for the lutron ones I'm going to swap them all for kasa switches.

Gradually dim lights over time

Hi. Is there a way to gradually dim lights over time. Turn on 100% at sunset and then gradually dim over the next couple of hours. Or I could have them dim with a light sensor. I know I could create routines and step it down every 5mins but is there a way to change state over X amount of seconds?

Control Media Playback on Phone Using TV Remote via Smart View

I'm facing a situation where I'm playing media from a website on my phone and casting my phone screen using Smart View to my TV. I'm wondering if there's a way to control the playback (like play/pause) of the media content on my phone using the TV remote.

When I cast my screen, I notice that the media shows as playing in the notification panel under the Media Output section, indicating that the phone recognizes there's media playing on my phone.

Has anyone else encountered this scenario, and if so, were you able to control the playback using the TV remote? Any insights or solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Buds2 picked up by someone

Yesterday I dropped my Buds2 case. The earbuds fell out. Before I opened my case, realized they were gone, and went back to where I dropped them, they were picked up by an unknown person.

I keep getting pinged saying they were seen by a random Samsung device in different locations in the area.

Is there any way to contact the person with my buds? I wanted to share my location with them (not sure how that would work as I don't think they have a Samsung) but for some reason that also allows them to control all of my devices?

I've never dealt with the find feature outside of me stopping them in my house and ringing them.

When would I use ST instead of just Alexa?

I'm a complete noob to home automation, so apologies... but could someone explain this to me like a child? haha

I'm buying a new home that has a Brilliant SwitchPad which has built in automations/scenes/etc. and integrates tightly with Alexa.

Prior to learning about Brilliant in the home, I thought I'd use SmartThings. Now I'm trying to figure out why I'd use both, if at all?

Thanks in advance!

External ZWave Temp Sensor

I've got a Honeywell T6 Pro Z-Wave thermostat in my living room and a Aeotec aërQ Z-Wave Temp & Humidity sensor in my bedroom.

I'm struggling to figure out how to set this up so that from the hours of 8pm to 6am, the thermostat essentially uses the bedroom sensor instead of the t-stat to manage the HVAC.

All of the things I've found were from prior to the move to Edge. I'm not the most savvy here, but Im usually not this lost. I feel like I'm overthinking this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Aeotec siren 6 question

I have the aeotec hub and the siren 6. My question is: what is the difference between the "chime" toggle for each mode and the "siren and strobe" button for each mode?

Also, if I want to have siren produce short sounds ( 1/2 sec to 1 sec) for every door opening, do I have set routine to start sound and a second routine to stop sound after a certain time?

Some of the definitions on the smart things app for the siren aren't as intuitive as other devices I have set up thus far. Thanks!

Samsung smart things

Why would a hacker want access to this on my device, had an issue with attempt to gain access. They couldn't figure something out since original Samsung product was from 2nd market and not original.

Question about smarttag 2

Hi all,

I recently got a smarttag 2 to use with a set of keys I need for work. I also use a samsung phone for work with the smartthings app installed.

Is there a way were I can set up an alert when the work phone and keys are more than say 100m away from each other? And is there a way to get that alert to go off on my main/personal phone?

Any advice is welcome.

I just got a Z Fold 5. My wife's smart things suddenly can't find my location.

My phone shows up on her smart thkngs find, but it can't find my phone's location. I've been racking my head. I deleted her and re-added her as a member. My location services are still on, and the app can use location at all times. Any ideas?

Synchronizing up and downstairs thermoatats

I have two smart thermostats connected to smartthings, but they operate independently. Rest of the household doesn't care about running one in heat mode other in cool.

I set up four routines to synchronize states but am not sure this isn't going to create an infinite loop or turn the wrong thermostat.

Here's an example of a routine:

If Upstairs state = heat for 1 minute and downstairs state = cool for 5 minutes Then set downstairs state to heat.

Is this right if I do for all four combinations?

My assumption is that thermostat whose state I am changing has been in that state for 5 minutes whereas the state of the thermostat that triggers has only been in that state for 1 minute (give a minute in case user changed mind). If I didnt have that stagger it would always meet the state of two routines and would be coin flip if it chose the right action.

There doesnt appear to be an option for "state recently changed"
