Galaxy Smart Tag and Safe Places not working

Hi everyone,

I'm using a Galaxy Smart Tag with the "left behind notification" feature enabled. I've also set up Safe Places so I don't receive notifications when I'm at home. However, it seems that as soon as I move away from the tag, even though I'm still at home, I still receive the notification that I've forgotten the tag. Has anyone else experienced this bug and found a solution?

Is the Aeotec Hub Necessary for me?

Hi everyone, I’ve had an Aeotec hub for several years, and the following devices: 3ea GE wall switches, 1ea motion sensor, 1ea Aqara door sensor. A few weeks ago I did some rearranging with my router and I left the Aeotec hub disconnected, they all show offline in the SmartThings hub but the odd thing is that all devices are still performing the routines I had created WITH THE EXCEPTION of the Aqara door sensor.

How are the 3ea GE wall switches and 1ea motion sensor all still performing routines without the hub plugged in and online?

Why do the wall switches and motion sensor work yet the Aqara door sensor does not?

FWIW, I have an Apple TV and connected it to my home kit app and allowed it to be a hub, but it goes days without even being turned on.

Water leak detector similar to Flume but for smart water meter.

Used to have Flume attached to my analog water meter. Worked great and I was able to monitor water remotely, when traveling. Now the city replaced the "dumb" meters with smart meters and of course Flume doesn't work on them. I live in an old house, travel a lot and need to monitor the main for possible water leaks while away from home. Any suggestions?

No notifications

I can't get any notifications (pop up, lockscreen etc) from. Smartthings. Motion events from my tapo cameras register in the app (I can see a device status change to motion detected) but I get no pop up notifications. All notifications are allowed in android and the smartthings app. Notifications from other apps work. Have reinstalled app and cleared cache etc. I'm a bit stumped.

Galaxy s23 ultra. Latest software on phone and latest version of smartthings

Any ideas what to try next

Help I cant pair device galaxy smarttag 2

Samsung smart tag 2 reset issues

I have a new samsung smart tag 2 that I registered yesterday. It was playing up and I removed it from my samsung smart things app.

However, I cannot reset it (have tried multiple times, changed batteries also) and regardless of how long I hold the button for, it does not beep or reset. I'm fairly certain it is working as when I bring the tag to the back of my phone, it will buzz my phone and take me to the below website.

I've checked the smart things find page but it is not showing up in my account.

Any ideas? It's been frustrating to get it to work!!!! It's as if its locked.

About Galaxy SmartTag2 SmartTags are devices that help their owners find everyday items such as keys or bags. This SmartTag can be found through SmartThings Find. With this SmartTag, its owner can find the locations of objects, monitor activities, or use buttons to utilize SmartThings smart features.

Leak detector advice

I want to get a simple water leak detector. I have a back door that is usually ok, but if the wind blows the "wrong way" when its raining, water can come in under the door. I want to put a water sensor right where the water would come in.

I'm leaning to the Thirdreality device shaped like a water drop, I already have one of their smart buttons and have no issue with that. But I see that device has a 120dB bell; I'm not sure I want to have to shut that up when it detects a leak.
I also looked at the Aeotec sensor, but it's close to twice the price for the same functionality.

Any advice from you all? Anything to avoid or look out for?

Lost Phone suddenly not in my SmartThings Find after 13 days

I lost my Samsung S23+, and have the IMEI blocked. Now, I still see its last location in my SmartThings Find, until I got an email prompt today that my phone was found via SmartThings Find. But upon logging in, the device was no longer in it.

I had tried the remote lock, and erase all data on the app, also the Google Security in which factory reset once it connects to a network. I was just worried the person who got my phone will use any data / photos / infos when they manage to bypass the phone's passcode.

So I was thinking, the fact that it was no longer on the SmartThings Find, was it factory reset-ed already?

Random Switches Turning On

I have had some random switches turning on without any automations on the switch lately over the past few weeks. The only reason I know about them is because I have settings for them to notify me when they do come on. They are zwave Leviton switches.

I am kind of lost as to why it’s happening. I recently re-added all my switches to smartthings because they all randomly disappeared.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Meross bulbs

I have Meross bulbs that don’t work fully. Have a ceiling light that can take 2 bulbs, but they lights are so bright, I only put one in. The Meross bulb will not work unless a second bulb is in there. The bulb (ikea smart bulb)I was replacing worked fine.

Have a similar situation in another room. 8 bulbs are used in this space, if I remove one, all the others go out. Put it back and it is fine.

It I have standard bulbs in this same sockets, they all work fine. Meaning, if I remove one, they rest stay on.

Make sense?

If you are considering a Samsung robot vacuum, think again

My wife and I purchased (with a variety of discounts applied) a Samsung Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI Robot Vacuum and Mop late last year with the intention of replacing our older Roborock vacuum which did not have a cleaning station and required constant maintenance and replacing of mop pads, emptying dust bins, etc to keep it running regularly. We wanted a vacuum/mop that we could set and forget for the most part and just be notified when we needed to add water or empty the cleaning station.

We've had it for a few months now and it seems like a pretty capable little guy on first glance. I was slightly disappointed that you can't take control and drive it around remotely to check on the house/dog while away (I know the higher tier Roborocks have that ability) but that wasn't a dealbreaker and not even on my list of top 5 needed features when researching.

You know what else wasn't on my list of top 5 features? Scheduled cleaning of specific rooms. Because of course it has that feature, right? Everybody who has one of these robot vacuums has the use case of wanting them to clean some rooms at certain times of day/night depending on work and/or sleep schedules. I've never heard of a robot vacuum with mapping tech not having that feature, UNTIL NOW. Yes, you are reading this right, after 2+ months of trying to find how to enable it in the ST app, calling, texting, chatting with Samsung support, and browsing reddit and Samsung forums, I can confirm that this robot vac does not have that ability. You either manully run the cleaning cycle on a subset of rooms that you select, or you define a schedule to clean THE WHOLE DAMN HOUSE. My house is medium sized 4 br house and has multiple types of flooring and carpet and telling it to clean the whole house is basically telling it to spend 4 hours cleaning and recharging. I need to be able to tell it to only clean the hardwood floors, or the back bedrooms away from where we sleep, or the carpeted front room, ON SEPARATE SCHEDULES. This way I can make sure it isn't spending a huge amount of time picking up or dropping off its mop pads or trying to decide what type of floor each room has. I just finished opening a ticket with SmartThings support and their official response was:

*Good day Taylor ,

The next level Tier responded:

When creating a schedule, the vacuum can only clean the entire house. If the user only wants to clean specific areas, this can only be done with a manual cleaning

Regards, Antonio SmartThings Support Team*

This is a $1700 vacuum meant to compete with the top of the line vacuums of Roomba, Roborock, etc. The stupidity of this feature being left out (or removed?) honestly has me flabbergasted. I don't know what options I have but I'm very tempted to start a fight with Samsung to return this on claims of false advertising because this robot is useless to me without that feature.

Has anybody else run into this absolute dealbreaking issue with these bots?

Tapo camera person detection

Hi

I have a load of tapo c120 cameras which have motion, person, vehicle and pet detection modes. Smartthings only seems to be able to pick up motion detection events when I use it to turn on outside lights.

Anyone know a way to only trigger on person or vehicle detection as the motion detection is triggered by passing car headlights etc. and I get too many false positives.

Cheers

Smart LED strip

Hi reddit community, i have a beam that goes right in the middle of my room and i had 2 LED strips (one on each side) that i had connected to Alexa, to create some atmosphere. They were one of the cheapest one of amazon and they have held strong for over 3 yrs now, the other day i had a power shortage and both the strips (connected to one single "smart box") got fried. I was wondering, since there are many known brands such as Nanoleaf, Philipps Hue, Ikea's strips, is the HUGE price difference worth it? I've found 30m led strips on amazon for 20$ (0.66$ per meter) compared to nanoleaf's 10m for 100$ (10$ per meter), Philipp Hue's 10m for 160$ (16$ per meter), Vocolinc's 5m for 46$ (9.2$ per meter). It's 14 times the price all the way up to 24 times the price of a cheap strip, what would be the benefits i'd see? If part of the benefits would be the app side, wouldn't i be able to purchase the "smart box" (even used) of said brand and connecting it to a cheap strip? Thank you so much for the clarifications, have a great day

Lutron devices keep dropping offline — argh

Hi all.

I have a home with about 75 Lutron RadioRa3 devices — mostly dimmers and a handful of switches, Picos, and a shade. The Lutron app works flawlessly with these devices.

My Smartthings hub is an Aeotec Smart Home Hub (Amazon says the part number is GP-AEOHUBV3US). When I originally set it up I was able to connect the Lutron account and access all of the devices.

However, the hub now routinely loses access to the devices, which is super annoying because my Brilliant wall controls rely on Smartthings as a bridge to access the Lutron gear.

For example, right now I opened the Smartthings app and it shows that 76 devices are offline. I pressed "Go to diagnostics" on the Offline page; at the moment this is just spinning, though in the past I have been able to recover my devices via this route. But then they go offline again in a few days or weeks. Sometimes they come back online on their own, but sometimes they don't.

This situation is untenable. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

SmartThings Station "overheating" instantly after being plugged in. Refuses to charge phone.

I stopped using my smarthings station due to this issue a few months back, (got it around December 2023) and I finally got it to connect to my phone again, but it says its overheating the second I place a phone on it and blinking red. Anyone know why? Can't find anything about this online.

SmartThings API Help

Hi,

So I recently had a brainwave to do something with the SmartThings API, basically turn off a light.

Easy I thought. Got a PAT token, gave it the permissions I wanted, made a request and sent it.. volia the light went off.

Now the API is broken due to the PAT TTL change that's now limited to 24 hours..

Anyways, I'm trying to make this an OAUTH request but the document's are mind boggling..

I have:

Not sure what else to do.. using the PAT was super easy but this is a mess, and the documentation is not clear or simple for someone that's not a developer in any way.

Has anyone got any simple steps or pointers to get this working?

Thanks

Outdoor sensor - only trigger at night

Any help would be greatly appreciated. What does the routine look like to have lights turn on at sunset, off at 10:00pm and on by sensor from 10:00pm to sunrise? Also not turning on during daylight.

Stay away from Mysa Thermostats if you want to use them with Smartthings

So I just got word (maybe late to the game) that Mysa has dropped Smartthings support. I have (6) of these. (4) or V1 and (2) are V2. The V2's don't show up in Smartthings and now you can't re-authorize. Mysa support replied to an email saying it's no longer supported. They're response was "Sorry about that". The support from Mysa was always shaky at best.

Bye Bye Mysa!!

I'm looking at the Meross Smart Electric Baseboard Thermostats. Does anyone have any experience with these?

How to enable button on smarttag to enable/disable Blink camera

Hello guys, today I found a solution to enable and disable Blink camera using only my smarttag (v2).

First of all sorry for my english.

1°- go to https://my.smartthings.com/

2° - Devices

3° - Add a new device

4° - Device name should be "Blink Cameras", Device type: "switch"

5° - Go to https://ifttt.com/ and add Blink applet (for me Blink Europe), you need to add 2

6° - "If SmartThings device switched off, disarm Blink system! and "If SmartThings device switched on, arm Blink system"

7° - Select for the disarm, when the virtual switch is off

8° - Select for arm when the virtual switch is on

9° - Go to your phone into smartthing, click on your smarttag and then for automation

10° - you can choose, for short pression to arm and long to disarm Blink cameras (the name that you choose for your virtual switch)

Ciao!

Ring Doorbell Plus and SmartThings on TV

Hi All,

In the process of moving into our first house. I'm looking to get a Samsung 2024 QN90D TV, and a Ring doorbell. I'd like a notification on the TV whenever someone rings the bell.

I'm a bit unsure of the compatible Ring doorbell devices, as the information I've researched seems potentially outdated? All sources mention the Ring Pro doorbell is compatible, and other sources have mentioned explicitly that older Ring doorbells are not compatible. However, I cannot see anything mention whether the Ring Doorbell Plus is or is not compatible.

So I'm just wondering if by any chance, someone has the Ring Doorbell Plus, a Samsung TV compatible with Ring, and is able to tell me whether this doorbell model works with it? Or if I'll have to shell out for the Pro.

Thank you!

Can't login android 15

I can't login on my Pixel phone running Android 15 and Chrome.

When you click to login the app opens chrome . Then, after authentication there is a button to open back the SmartThings App and it does not work.

Something has changed recently because it was working before.

Anyone else experiencing the same?

It is 2025 and I'm kinda frustrated by such a poor login experience.

Sengled Smart Plugs (Zigbee) giving wildly different power readings

I have my home office setup connected to a line conditioner that's plugged into one of these smart plugs. I only noticed yesterday that when everything is in standby, the plug is reporting 55kW being used!! That surprised me! That's the line conditioner, a USB dock, and 2 monitors.

I got the smart plug in a 2 pack, so this evening after work I'm measuring phantom power around my house with the other plug, and I'm getting reasonable values like 8W, 14W, and interestingly a couple appliances reporting 0W phantom power.

I decided to use my office smart plug to do a phantom power measurement of a TV and set top box and got 11 kW, odd.

So I swapped in the 2nd unit on my office setup and that one says my phantom power is 7W, much more understandable and a huge difference from its sibling!

I can't see a way to set any configuration parameters on these plugs. One of them is obviously wrong. Anyone has any experience with this?

Routine tigger on power meter not working

I'm trying to get my manual washer/dryer combo to be smart. I installed an energy monitor on the circuit and created a virtual switch. I then created two routines:

  1. When the power meter is above zero > turn on the virtual switch
  2. If the virtual switch is on, and the power meter returns to zero > turn off the virtual switch, turn on a bulb in the kitchen on green, send a notification

The problem is that the first routine doesn't trigger. It looks like the power meter value isn't being polled at all!

Smartthings hub 3rd Gen

I'm still running the 3rd generation hub (white box version). I was reading that this version no longer gets updates? Is there an alternative now that others have moved on to? I like how my devices are all centralized in the smartthings app and connected with my Samsung devices and appliances.
