Zigbee sensor (or Home Assistant) widget on Echo Show?

As far as I understand it, you can add widgets to your Echo Show. Unfortunately though, there doesn't seem to be a list of available widgets (and what they do) publically available on the internet. As I don't yet have a Echo Show, that leaves me guessing. For that reason, I'd appreciate it if anyone here can answer a couple of questions:

  1. I have a few Zigbee temperature sensors. Are there widgets that can read these sensors, so I can for instance see the bedroom humidity, the hallway light level or the bathroom temperature?
  2. Are there are Home Assistant widgets that let me show data from my Home Assistant-box, e.g. letting me read and show the state of a certain device? (please note that I'm not looking to show an entire HA dashboard on the Echo, just a widget showing data from HA).

Thank you in advance!

Is there a way to disable the sponsored "ads" on the screen of my Echo Show 5?

I have my Show 5 set up to be sort of a digital picture frame/clock on my bedside night stand. It shows various pictures I have from conventions I've gone to, trips I've taken with friends, stuff like that. I love that!

But the problem is when the thing displays stuff on the screen labeled as "sponsored." It stops showing my picture gallery to show these stupid sponsored ads cover my photos, sometimes backing my Echo out of my setting or whatever I'm doing on it back to the home screen to show me these sponsored ads.

I looked throughout the settings and cannot find a way to disable this. So I'm wondering if there's a certain way to. I'm really hoping there is.

Any help would be great!

Device Dashboard

So I bought an 8th Gen Fire Hd8 tablet about 1 month ago with the sole purpose of it being used as a device dashboard hub (cost me £25 instead of £150 for an echo hub) only to find that the new update has apparently taken device dashboard away/ been disabled. Does anyone know if I can rewind the update or if I can get it back somehow? Using the smart home section on show mode seems farcical if there is an easier way.

TLDR: How can I get device dashboard back?

Does the FireTV Cube have a Zigbee-Hub?

Does anybody know, if the FireTV Cube (3rd gen) has a Zigbee-Hub? Some sites say, that it has a hub and some don't.

Echo 4th gen vs Echo Show 8 3rd gen

Cross posted from r/alexa - My elderly grandpa has dementia and has been forgetting how to do simple tasks. Recently he has been having trouble using his landline and flip phone specifically remembering how to put people on speaker phone so he can hear. He expressed interest in getting an Alexa device just to ask it questions about the news/sports scores etc but as I was doing research I discovered you can use Alexa to call people and this would mean it’s already on speaker phone essentially which I think could be good for him. Does anyone have opinions on the two devices? I’m not sure a screen is really necessary so I’m leaning towards the Echo 4th gen. Any other Alexa prompts you think would be good for an elderly person to be able to use let me know!

Studio won't bluetooth to record player

Anyone else have problems connected their Echo Studio via bluetooth to music players? My record player will connect to cheaper speakers, an echo dot, ear buds, etc but it will not connect to my Studio. I've reset the Studio, tried different methods and settings, but no luck.

"Here's what I found" instead of opening the app

I'm lost, no matter what I try to do i can't get my alexa and firetv stick to work together to open an app

So, I'm trying to setup a Christmas routine that turns on all the Christmas lights in my living room, plays Christmas music and opens a fireplace app on the firetv. I've got the lights and music dialed in and even found a fireplace app I like, called "The Fireplace App" that opens right to a burning fireplace.

But, for the life of me, no matter what command I try, the firetv stick just goes to the search page. I even tried an alternative app called "app opener" in case the name "the fireplace app" was too generic, but that didn't help.

Considering an upgrade from Show5 need advice from Show8 users

I currently have a Show5 and I hate it. Haaaate. Loaaaaathe. Volume keeps changing on it's own, screen brightness keeps changing itself, can't have a static screen, keeps flipping even though I have everything else turned off.

So from things I've read over the past months, people have implied that the Show8 can actually have one static screen with no rotation and overall offers more optimization than the 5 does. Is this true?

Basically, I want a clock with a pretty background that I can use voice commands for for smart home settings.

Echo Show for zoom meetings

Hiya!

Zoom recommends two versions for the Echo Show for zoom meetings, the 8 and 10.

Do either of these have a usb port? I work at a yoga studio and we do online classes and our current tech just took a dump :/

I’m looking for a different solution that’s easier to use for our instructors and this seems like a great one however we have a ceiling mounted Logitech cam we use so the online students can see the instructor.

Thanks, Craig

Need a wedge for the Echo Spot

Set up our new Spot today, it’s installed on the AV unit instead of our old Dot. Problem is that the angle means the screen has a lot of reflections on it and ideally needs a small wedge underneath to make the front more vertical than tilted.

I don’t suppose anyone has found anything that would do the job. Can’t use the Amazon stand as it won’t fit in the TV unit.

Kasa tp link and alexa

I set up a bunch of Christmas lights over the weekend. Used kasa smart plugs with all of them. About half are showing up in the Alexa app and able to be controlled by voice through the Alexa. Same process used for all the plugs. Anyone know how to get the rest of them to show up?

Worth it to upgrade to Echo Dot 5th gen?

I currently have a 2nd gen Echo dot and am thinking about grabbing a 5th gen during the Amazon sale. Is there any reason to upgrade and is it worth it? Or should I just keep using my 2nd gen devices?

Screen Setup: 2nd Gen Echo Show 15

We’ve had Alexa’s and Shows for years now. I’m an Apple lifer myself, but we’ve committed to a house full of Amazon Alexa’s for better or for worse.

I’ve been frustrated with Echo’s UI forrrrever and have never quite mastered or understand the basic foundation of these smart screens. So much so that we ditched it for the Skylight Calendar Smart Display……

Well, that turned out to be too one-dimensional for us in the long run—hence we are now back to Alexa/Echo and updated to the 2nd generation Show 15.

All I’ve ever wanted was the screen to be 100% filled with different widgets that are applicable to our household. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make that happen! What is the crap on the left 1/3 to 1/2 of the screen that mixes unwanted ads with other junk I KNOW I’ve turned off before??

My little brain simply cannot fathom a world in which someone sells a premium device that is marketed as 15 inches, yet only makes about 10 inches of that real estate customizable for the buyer…. TELL ME I’M NOT CRAZY and that this is layered somewhere deep in the settings panel??

I’ve messed to high hell with the “Home Content” settings and have played with that center screen ration dragger/slider bar thingy, but it’s like it’s forcing their shitty UI upon me no matter what.

Is there a deep-dive YouTube channel or video somewhere that really drills down on ALL that the Show can really do…like, beyond just initial setup, but how to truly “hack” the screen to fit your unique needs?

Echo Dot 2 spontaneously performed data reset on device I don’t know

I saw my Echo was spinning with a green/yellow light, so I asked her “what are you doing?” She replied with: “I have performed a Factory Data Reset on OVERMAX Qualcore 7030 4G.” A Google search told me that’s an Android tablet? But I don’t have one in my house and definitely did not ask for this. Anybody experience anything like this? 😬

Is it just me or have Echo l Shows in UK starting to display compulsory ads?

If that's the case I'm selling it tomorrow, filling a complaint with the UK Consumer regulator and getting an Apple pod instead. I bought because you could choose whether ads were displayed or not.

I've paid for a product, not a billboard by my fucking bed where I sleep.

Just bought earbuds but my phone is not compatible with alexa app

My phone is older but not super old I have other contemporary apps. The problem is it says I cant download alexa app,. Is there a trick to bypass this? I think its really silly that headphones require an app. I usually use simple plug in headphones which are much easier.

Echo show for elderly family with at max 1mbps internet

For some reason their house can’t be brought to this century’s Internet standard without doing construction (I don’t know how or why) they are very stubborn to tech but I recently introduced POV HD videos to them and I want them to have a way to watch them and have Alexa for things like timer, calendar, time. Is it even worth buying if the internet only gets to 1mbps. I was able to stream Hulu for at least an hour there on my tablet.

Sonoff buttons with Alexa devices/routines

Does anyone use Sonoff buttons (or maybe another kind) to trigger Alexa routines/devices? I got some and I am able to set them up but there seems to be like a 2-3 seconds delay in-between pressing the button and the routine actually running. Wondering if that's normal with all Zigbee buttons, maybe just an issue with the Sonoff or what.

Alexa "room temp is quadrillion degrees..."

Anyone else getting prank responses from echo devices?

Accidentally triggered "Excuse Mode". This was followed by echo dot teling me it was a quadrillion degrrees otside.

There is history recorded only for any outside temp requests, none for inside room requests.

Lasted for about 10 minutes, even after reboot, bluetooth repairing.

How much data does the Echo Spot use if used mostly as clock?

I’m thinking about grabbing my an Echo Spot while it’s on sale for Black Friday but was curious how much data it used is I mostly used it as an alarm clock? Comparatively is it a lot where I should look at something else or is it not a big deal.
