It was a music store off Nob Hill or Tieton in this big white building with nothing other than a single door to let you know something might be in there. I'm about to make some bigger ticket purchases and would love to visit and patronize this dudes store again if it's still around.
Hey all, I own a record shop a few hours south and I'm going to be looking at a large record collection up in Yakima, wondering if there's any places you can recommend. Hoping to snag as much cool stuff as I can to make the trip even more worth it!
Can we do a thread of local organizations to donate to for Giving Tuesday? There are some places doing a lot of good for our community, so this could get some extra funding going towards those groups while spreading awareness about them. Please include if there is any donation matching going on.
One I want to share is the Yoga Collective. They provide yoga classes for FREE, 7 days a week. They have classes in English, Spanish, chair yoga, yoga for men, t'ai chi, belly dancing, and acro yoga. It's a pretty great resource. Their goal is only $500, and I am hoping they go well beyond that. Here is a link to their fundraiser: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1G6qCHVspA/
Another one is the Yakima Area Arboretum. This is another free community resource, and I really hope it stays that way. According to a post on their Facebook page, they are matching donations, up to $5,000 through the end of this year. Here is a link to their donation page: https://www.ahtrees.org/support/donate/
For those who can't donate financially, the Arboretum also takes volunteers to help garden there or help at events.
Any other cool orgs in town???
My wife and I made an offer on a home recently. I couldn't find any inspector recommendations in this sub, so here are mine, in case anyone is looking! These inspections helped us decide to back out of this purchase, and we'll definitely be using them again for the next offer.
Jace from Doug's Rooter Service came out to do a sewer scope for us. Professional, took his time, did a good job pulling and reseating the toilet when he needed to (no cleanout installed on the property). Took the time to talk with us in detail about his findings and about what the pipes under the house and yard might look like, and even went so far as to bring out the locator so he could plant some flags in the yard in the specific spots that might be issues. Will definitely use this company again for the next house we make an offer on!
Ryan from Integrity Inspection Services LLC was great to work with. He got there early and got started right away, and then spent hours going over every nook and (moldy!) cranny. He, too, took the time to talk with my wife and I about all his findings, answered our questions clearly, and followed up with a meticulously documented report which included photos and recommendations. We'll be calling Ryan up again for the next inspection!
I'm not receiving any compensation or discounts from either of these companies, I just liked them enough that I wanted to recommend them highly. Couldn't find similar recommendations on here, and it's a good thing to be able to search for.
We have two excellent programs coming up in the next week or so:
On Friday, Dec. 6 at both 3pm and 4:30pm, Mary Carpenter from Give Paper Flora will be at Yakima Central to lead a pair of Tree of Life Leaf Painting and Story Workshops. Stop by, have some orange tea, and create a card to celebrate a person who has added strength to your life story. You can register here for 3pm and here for 4:30pm.
Next Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 5:30pm at West Valley Library, Sean Tate an arborist from Leaf on the Wind will present on The Intelligence of Trees. It will be a summary of recent scientific discoveries about trees, including subjects such as plant senses, communication, learning, memory, and decision making behavior.
Current one is really slow
There used to be a tattoo shop, on north first street. Called electric dreams tattoo.
My mom to me here back in 2006 or 2007. I was around 15 years old. To get my first tattoo. The building no longer exists.
Anyway, my mom took me to get my late grandmother's name tattooed after she passed. And now my mother passed away and I thought it would be really amazing if I could find that same guy to do the tattoo for me of my mom's name.
It's a long shot, I know.. but hopefully someone here may have a lead for me on where I might find out who was tattooing here back then?
Does anyone in Yak want/need a toddler mattress?? It’s never been slept on, just been in storage. Cleaning things out & my son’s too big for it now, so trying to get rid of it. Free!
My sisters cat recently ran away and im looking for a replacement for her any help would be appreciated thank you :)
I am looking for a new provider. I have Verizon now which works well, but is spendy. I had T-Mobile years ago and it was garbage.
What are folk's current levels of satisfaction of carriers around Yakima?
Anybody in Yakima play Strive??
Any good places around town that are particularly good to work from, for a few hours?
My wife and I really appreciate the Yoga Collective and they have great instructors, but we're looking for a little more. Our favorite instructor in the last place we lived had a great vinyasa flow class, where we'd be sweating by 20 minutes in and struggling to maintain muscle tension by the end! So, maybe not "yoga" yoga, but it had great flow through classic pose sequences and she really knew her stuff.
Can anyone recommend a local studio or instructor with a style like that? A faster paced, more advanced yoga? Thanks in advance!
Does anyone know where I can find the tunnels entrance in downtown yakima?
Hey I’m looking for someone who could do a custom cake for the first week of December, around the 5th. Do you guys know anyone who can do customs? Like cakes of characters and what not. Any recommendations?
I moved to Yakima earlier this year from a place where it doesn't snow. I have to drive to Portland over the weekend, and am wondering what the road conditions are like from Yakima to Portland this time of year? I drive a small sedan and do not have snow tires... I plan on buying chains this week to have in my car.
If you have any driving tips or insight as to what the roads will be like this weekend, or ways to check conditions before I begin driving, please let me know.
TIA from someone who is trying to stay safe this winter!
I’m looking to open a new card and prefer to open with a local credit union. It would be for personal use. Any advice or experiences with local cards would be appreciated! I’ve heard a couple stories that Solarity has been slacking on their services…
Thanks in advance!
Looks like I am going to need tires. Newer FWD car, relatively common make/model with common tire size, so should be able to find tires.
Ideally looking for all season/all weather tires if at all possible. I could go to Les Schwab or etc, but thought I would ask here to see if anybody knew of any local shops that are trust worthy, stock decent tires, and are maybe a bit better of a deal. I prefer to deal locally and help local folks (if possible).
I have a question for those who do daycare for family members. My older son is taking care of my youngest two, and my oldest son for now 3 days of the week as I am working 12 hour days at two different jobs.. one starts at 6.. which is only 4 hrs. My other is 11-7. my third job is 2 days a week and are 10 hour shifts but state won't allow those for him for my younger two but allow for the oldest.. not sure who has family members or friends paid for daycare here in WA state? Let alone Yakima. Should I just pay him a certain amount of what the state pays for a 10 hr day? Plus allowed time to return home of 40 minutes since that is how far work is.

Wife and I looking at a possible relocation to YTC as civilian employees. I’ve been told Yakima is a “challenging” area. Looking for neighborhood recommendations. Our kids are grown and out of the house, and we’d like to have a large yard if possible, but that’s not a deal breaker. How’s the food/bar/entertainment in the area? How is the area for outdoors activities, hiking etc. TIA.
Anyone know of any good dog trainers in the area? Preferably an individually owned small business that I could support, something outside of what comes up on google searches. Just looking for something a little more personalized, thanks all!
I'm a local music teacher trying to find a venue for our winter Recital on December 8th.
We need space for around 80 people and it's being held on a Sunday afternoon, which makes finding a venue more complicated than in years past.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a relatively low-cost venue that would be available in the early afternoon on a Sunday?
Thanks in advance!
