Happy Diwali?

Just having a stroll this morning and there are spent fireworks everywhere!!!

I can only guess that the people who can't be bothered to pick up their mess are the same people who think it's been acceptable to launch fireworks way past midnight for the last few days in public areas.

They've been going off at 1, 2, 3,4am. That's surely not a celebration for anybody?

The mess is disgraceful. The noise after the allowed times has been obnoxious and I don't imagine for a second that it's all over.

How hard is it to be considerate of others and pick up after yourself?

West Park Fireworks

This is a little rant but bare with me.

So I’m not from Wolverhampton but have been here enough through my life to know what goes on - for note I’m a third year student at uni in another city.

I have younger family members who live here and I come regularly to spend time with them in order to escape the HELL that is university right now. It’s cheaper too, but I saved up for the event at west park and bought 5 tickets online. The trump card for me is being an older sister, it’s what I’m good at and what I love.

We had one extra family member with us who was a young girl and she was so keen to come. Got to the gates, no tickets available and we had just missed the cut off for them. The two men were so so understanding and kind about it - but being the person I am, I wanted to speak to the manager guy.

Deadass a huge burly bearded bloke, fair enough and I approached him kindly. This guy was so harsh, his tone was just not it. I get it, no more tickets - but I’m not here swearing at you and cussing you out for one, I said please and that seemed to tick him off lol.

I tried to convince the younger family member to go in with my ticket and I’ll go home and study but she was so overwhelmed because situations like that naturally make you feel that weird pit in your stomach. I got her an Uber and as soon as I return to the gate the two men who were kind to me earlier found someone with a spare ticket - but I couldn’t stand around in the dark and cold when I’m responsible for multiple kids including a 2 year old. Their dad was with them but Asian uncles can be such a pain in the arse so I consider myself babysitting any ethnic elders I’m with as the full English speaker.

This was my final straw, at my big age I went in, scanned my ticket and held it together but it wasn’t enough for a few tears - had like 30 seconds before I walked to meet the family who were huddled waiting for me. I had to lie and say someone vaped and it stung my eyes.

Honestly, the fact that there was no tickets wasn’t what got to me - and I know some of you will be like OoOoh AhHh you’re old enough to know not everyone is nice!!

But bruh, it’s such an exiting event and you made multiple people feel like shit when entering. If I hadn’t spent money on the tickets and wasn’t surrounded by three eager kids, trust me I would have happily tossed off home and stayed there.

Sometimes we get to our own limits and that’s okay, but I don’t know how he couldn’t just be understanding and be kind about it. It’s not like I came in trying to scrap him for a ticket.

We all have long weeks, I had one with the odd person dead, deadlines to meet and no money for massing student debts. I can cope with that, but sending an eager kid home? Sorry if that was my final straw. Being yelled at was the nail in the coffin though - how am I supposed to explain to the family why I got reprimanded AHHH MY HEAD. It’s just the look on their faces as they slowly realised their cousin wasn’t coming. I always do my best to keep an optimistic and positive front but I’m sure they got the gist when I was zoned out trying to think of what to do.

Just be kind - choose your wording better and be a little more sympathetic. Even if you can’t offer what someone wants, that can be enough to help them feel stronger.

I hope you all had a lovely Diwali (despite it being thick like fog and awake because it sounds like another country finally had enough of us).

Thank you for reading and please look after yourselves!

Willenhall

If your taking a stroll through the town this weekend be sure to admire the numerous dog turds up and down the high street and surrounding streets, sums up the town and clientele there perfectly 👍👍

Is The Gym Group Wolverhampton any good?

Does anyone know if The Gym Group Wolverhampton WV3 0TE is good or not? I feel like since it's a budget gym, the equipment might be lacking or low quality.

I can't find any good pictures of the actual weights and lifting machines (chest press, smith machine, bench press, dumbbell rack, lat pulldown, etc) online, so I'd appreciate it if someone could send some pictures of the lifting section of the gym.

Is it just me or...

Do these new builds on the outskirts of the town centre, next to the Royal Hospital, look depressing and cheap? There's just no character in them.

Buses

Anyone know when the Wolverhampton Garage will see bus upgrades? Seems like we've been given the oldest and worst ones, while Coventry and Birmingham have many EV's. Heard rumours they'd ordered electroliners for the Wolverhampton garage but hasn't been confirmed till date...

Choosing Between a Windows Laptop or MacBook for Business Management Studies – Need Advice!

Hi everyone! I’ll be starting a Business Management program at the University of Wolverhampton, and I’m debating between getting a Windows laptop or a MacBook. For those of you in similar programs, what do you prefer or find more useful for your studies? Any advice would be really helpful!

Trip to Wolverhampton

Hi all!

I'm planning to stay in the city centre of Wolverhampton; i''m from Holland and will stay for 2 days, and I will also visit the Grand Slam of Darts. Any recommendations in Wolverhampton or important things I need to know before arriving?

I'm also doubting about staying in the city centre or in a area like Tettenhall. Would love your advise.

If anyone's up for a drink hit me up!

Greetz,

Nick

Me and a friend noticed that everyone asks University of Wolverhampton questions in this sub, so we've created r/wolverhamptonuni.

The name was too long to fit as University of Wolverhampton, which was a shame.

Everyone is welcome to join and interact r/WolverhamptonUni.

Student City?

I made a very interesting observation the other day in Wolverhampton town centre. The University supposedly has 20,000 students - that would be around 10% of the population.

Where are all these students? Do they not go to bars/pubs? Since the campus is in the centre, i don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume it would be bustling with young people going for a drink or having fun. Instead, the town dies at 7pm and turns into the Walking Dead essentially with odd characters screaming incoherently, sleeping in doorways, asking for spare change etc.

It’s just so weird, any University town I visited both in the UK and abroad was kept alive by students - what’s up with this place?
