The largest landlocked county in Britain.

A subreddit for those few salopians who seem to have access to the internet.

For those curious - Shropshire is a large, rural and landlocked county in the heart of the UK. Our main claim to fame is the birthplace of Charles Darwin, as well as the modern olympics. Aside from that, the Shropshire hills offer some of the most beautiful landscapes in England.

Gym options near Shrewsbury/Telford

Hi all,

I am moving to south Shropshire at the end of the month and am looking for gym recommendations please.

Needs to be:

  • Accessible from where the A458 meets the A5
  • Open from 5am (earlier would be great too)
  • Have decent shower/changing facilities (so not PureGym at Meole Brace)
  • Large enough to have a decent selection of strength training machines and free weights that won't be rammed full of people at 6am

I have been looking at JD Gym in Shrewsbury, but if anyone else has any recommendations then I'd appreciate it - thanks!

Ghost walks in Ludlow?

I’ve got friends from abroad joining me for a weekend in Shropshire and they’re into all things haunted and ghostly. They want to visit the Feathers, and are keen to join a ghost walk in Ludlow. All I can see are reviews for one that appears to no longer be running.

Does anyone know of any guided walks that may include some ghost stories of the town?

Craven Arms

What’s Craven Arms like to live? House prices appear to be slightly lower than surrounding towns, but at a quick glance all appears well. Are there pubs, shops etc?

New town - New friends?

Hi all,

Bit of an awkward post but there is nothing to lose. My girlfriend and I (both 24) recently moved to Telford, specifically Lawley Village as she got a job here. Unfortunately in this day and age its seemingly Sisyphean to make friends in your adult life from scratch so I'm making this post, as we have moved and my friends live almost 2 hours away and hers even further. Even though I am quite happy in isolation I can tell this weighs heavy on my GF, so I'd like to possibly connect with people who live nearby with similar interests or ages.

We both go to the gym regularly, hike occasionally (mainly for the nature aspect but enjoy the challenge) and watch anime/tv together. She likes to read fiction whereas I prefer non-fiction. I enjoy philosophy, learning/ studying, investing and gaming (PC).

Ideally we could meet a couple of friends to meet up with, frequent the gym (Puregym) with, host game/movie nights but one step at a time I suppose it would be best to start with a coffee or gym session. I work from home so I can always chill at a coffee place and work as well.

Not expecting a huge response from this post, but if you think we have anything in common or are in a similar boat please feel free to DM me or comment I love speaking with new people.

Alternatively if you have any advice or have been in a similar situation your insight would be highly appreciated. What did you do to make friends in a new town or your adult life?

Looking forward to your responses. Any recommendations on local spots or groups would be great too!

I am currently looking for someone that can carry a small job:

- repoint a roof tile

- fix ridge vents

Roofers companies don't even move for that or try to upsell a new roof.

I am in Telford area.

Thanks in advance.

edit: sorted,

found a nice chap that in l3ss that one hour completed what the previous roofer left

Days out

Hi all!

I live in North Shropshire and am after some recommendations.

I have two daughters (4 and 8) and for Christmas this year we've said we'll take them for days out as a family instead of having Christmas presents (from us.... Father Christmas will still come and family will still get them gifts).

Where would you recommend? We have a car and don't mind travelling up to 1.5hrs for a decent day trip.

Lamsley Cottage pre-2002 - help!

My grandparents lived in Shropshire all their lives and I remember so clearly as a child this old farmhouse they lived in. It was called Lamsley Cottage and they sold it in/around 2002. I can’t find any record of it so it may have been renamed - I live out of the country now so not looking to visit but I was really curious as to if it was still there and if so.. where? I know it was near Craven Arms in either Bushmoor or Wistanstow. Anyone know where I mean?

Anyone know where I can buy some hay/haylage near Shropshire for my horses?

I’m looking for some large round wrapped / unwrapped hay bales for my horses for over the coming winter months. We’re just on the border of shropshire near Whitchurch with some stables/fields. Any suggestions would be very helpful!!

Commuting from Shrewsbury to Telford

I'm looking at moving to Shrewsbury from Telford where I currently work. Which parts of Shrewsbury are best for commuting to work in Telford to best avoid the traffic on the A5?

What’s everyone’s favourite foodie hotspots in Shropshire?

I’ve recently moved to Shropshire and have been enjoying getting out and exploring. There are some amazing places to eat around here - Csons being one of my favourites. I was just wondering where other people love and if there are any hidden gems you might not find with a google search? Open to all recommendations - nothing is off the table!

Looking for a GP surgery in Telford that is good with chronic pain patients and disability

Basically the doctors I'm with currently, suck. I have chronic illness and chronic pain, and my doctors surgery is both clueless and negligent. They gas light me, lie to me (e.g. tell me tests results are normal when they're actually not), tell me that certain medications, treatments, referrals ect do not exist. Things of that nature along with being very demeaning.

I've heard from other people with chronic pain having similar stories with their GP and I'm looking to try and find a GP that is more understanding of these things, or just act more like they want to help in general. I've heard Stirchley medical practice might be the one to go with but I've only heard this off of one person so I thought I'd ask here just in case there were other disabled people or relatives of disabled people, who could possibly help.

Thanks in advance!
