So I'm using the WHA magic system to an extent in D&D (as in healing potions are forbidden or some people cast using glyphs) but I've come into a bit of a problem. Forbidden spells are those that directly affect the body. But what exactly is that criteria? Like Absorb Elements which captures energy, stores it in your body and then releases it after 6 seconds. Does that count?

This might sound like a stupid question, but why isn’t it just called “Witch’s Atelier”, or like “The Witch Atelier”? Before I read the series I thought it’s about someone who makes hats for witches. Does the hat become part become more significant later in the story? I’m still on vol 1.

I am SO antsy waiting for more news to come out about the anime but we have heard nothing for over 6 months. My hope is that a new trailer with voice actors comes out very soon. Medical magic could save so many lives if they simply limited its use to simple methods like healing injuries and sickness. After all a poison is only poison in certain dosages. If they simply forbade certain uses then it would make the line more clear about why things are forbidden.

Things like immortality research, necromancy, human experimentation. For example, stitching a wound shut is fine but regenerating a body party would be out because of what could go wrong. It’s all a matter of dosages, there’s no need to outlaw life saving treatments if you simply punish its abuses. Especially since witches have decoupled themselves from the government.

I thought of this after reading 57 chapters of this series. It’s a rather simplistic way of doing things especially considering how messy things get when you involve all the messed up stuff we’ve seen magic do to the body. But after 57 chapters of watching good people anguish over not being able to help or not doing enough. I know they’ve found work arounds and those inventions show the best of human ingenuity but at the same time, the things that make medical magic forbidden only come about through malpractice and greed. Things that can be punished and that we’ve seen been punished even if it’s not easy.
