This will be my first season waterfowl hunting. The current shotgun I have is a Mossberg 500 Turkey pump action 20 gauge. I know a pump can be a disadvantage compared to semi. It has a 22” barrel. My question is, what style of choke should I switch to for waterfowl? And should I get a longer barrel?
I'm getting ready to build a couple blinds - one for my boat, one for this tidal area we hunt at. Needing some design ideas, ready-made blind recommendations, and insights as to what materials you're using to get the job done.
Hey, I was looking to see if anyone knows of a few good hunting guides in the Ohio area preferably within an hour of Cleveland, but I’m always willing to drive most anywhere in the state for ducks. I prefer hunting small bodies of water rather than Lake Erie but I enjoy hunting the big lake from time to time too. Thanks!
I’m in a deer processing group on Facebook and some folks were talking about how long they hand their deer, etc., etc.
One guy mentioned he hangs his ducks too? I’ve never heard that before. Anyone do this? Any tips and tricks if so? What’s the benefit?
Everyone has got a recipe for how they prepare their ducks and geese. That’s why we go out in the marshes every season. Let hear yours! Many of us would love to try something new!
Me and my two hunting buddies always hunt the opener together on the same property.
Between us all theres been a divorce, an unexpected pregnancy and subsequent marriage, cancer, and a handful of births. A lot of life shit.
We've shot limits at the opener and one time only had 3 ducks between us.
But we have an agreement that if one of us dies, the others have to bring out one of the others' kids in his place every opening day. So the kid can see what we would do and why it was important to his father.
Just one of their kids, but it doesn't have to be the same one every year. And we have to offer so long as one of that dudes kids is willing to come. They don't have to hunt if they don't want to, but they can still come.
Anyone else got anything like that?
I read that when using Boss shells, you should shoot improved cylinder or modified. I typically have a patternmaster in my gun all season. For better patterns and duck-killability, should I through a different choke in when I shoot boss?
I’ve hunted for 15 years, I’ve got one mallard leg band, been apart of shooting 7 can goose bands (5 of which was from a single group!) and a very special neck collar and neck band from a Canada goose!
On a side note, if anyone knows where to find a Stoeger inirtia spring for a m-3500, me love you long time
This is her second full season of hunting and she has probably 200+ retrieves over water, not very often to hand but good enough. Brought her on a field hunt and she refuses to grab a duck. Have tried playing with birds on land after a hunt. Getting her excited and throwing them. Can’t get it to stick. Really need advice.
Does anyone have a hookup at beretta to know If they are gonna be releasing a new a400 soon? I’m in the need for a new waterfowl gun and want to know if there’s anything new coming down the line soon.
update
Put deposit down on a 30” barrel max7 camo a400 extreme plus
Who has experience shooting Winchester Blind side 2 for ducks? I usually use 4 shot for most ducks but was considering some blind side number 2 shot just to try some “better” ammo. Anyone have experience with it? Worth the hype?
I went to Canyon Lake, Texas with a buddy this past weekend on a guided hunt to learn how to duck hunt. We ended up bagging 8 regular ducks and a coot. Took a lot of notes on useful prep to do before going back out because I'm hooked. Does anyone have experience taking a kayak out? I wanted one for fishing and don't see why it wouldn't work fine as long as I pack carefully.
First solo triple with my middle son. He was a little excited and wanted to pose like the geese.
Just had my first successful hunt. Took a blue wing teal hen, cinnamon teal drake, and shoveler hen opening day here! Probably should have taken a better picture.
So I have one question, as a newer shooter to shotguns (20+ years rifle/pistol and competitions here and there) I’m definitely not the best with shotguns. I know there’s a 25 shell limit. Now, I’ve heard mixed things about this…are you allowed to go back to your truck and grab another box? I took about 20 shots…lots of misses, so was right on the limit.
Thanks!
Will be hard to beat the taste of a wood duck but planning to cook them both up tonight and see how big the difference is. Shot in an impoundment in eastern NC.
We all remember hunts where something funny, amazing or just plain important to you happened.
