hello, i’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this but figured maybe someone would know. our vcr is switching the movies from wide to full screen on our tv. is this fixable? it’s a vcr/dvd combo & it’s quite annoying lol. is it bc our tv is so big? what do i do??

Most of them are westerns and a lot of them are six hour tapes with multiple movies recorded onto them. Can’t wait to start watching these!

I loved the idea of hd-vhs so I waited and finally got a Player for a Price I was willing to pay 212dollar . I know its Region locked sadly.

I am completely new to digitizing since I just found a stash of tapes in my mom's house of us as kids back in 90s-00s. I have been digitizing Hi8 with a sony EV-S2000 i got from a reputable refurbished, but need a good vcr.

Of course, I've heard and read all the old forums of the AG-1980P and how great it is/was but also how often the caps and other electronics go bad and how hard it is to find one in working order. Not to mention the issue of finding someone who still can and will restore it reliably.

My question - what decks do you guys recommend for digitizing vhs tape with the best quality possibly while also considering that I would like to prioritize reliability and sacrifice the potential "best" quality playback i could get if I went through the ringer to secure one of the top tier professional decks?

Any suggestions will help and be appreciated! Just trying to sort out my options here for preserving some home videos.

My tape is stuck 😔

It doesn’t do this until I put a tape in. I haven’t used it in a couple years and I forgot that this tv used to do this.

I can’t remember how I got it out last time

Is there a fuse I need to check? How do I retrieve the tape?

I took off the four screws but I was unable to pull the screen and the back apart to get the tape out

At least I think it’s meant to protect the tape. The tape was dirty and I was using a qtip w/ alcohol to wipe the top and bottom edges of the tape. Then the clear plastic snapped off. Am I screwed?

My panasonic tau tv won’t play tapes, the first time I put it in it ate it and got stuck, but I managed to get it out now whenever I try putting one in it just immediately spits, it out I tried cleaning the inside with ipa solution but that didn’t change anything, anyone know what the problem is?

I know everyone is going to flame me for spending this much on tapes since everyone else that posts here seems to find 56 horror tapes all for a nickle or a milk crate of sealed tapes in a dumpster but theses have been on my list for awhile. They are a huge nostalgic pill for me especially since the person that got me into the pink panther is no longer here to enjoy them with. I'll be loading up the VCR & the popcorn tonight, hope everyone had a great Sunday!

Hi y’all, my VHS player has decided to stop playing any tapes I opened it up to have a look, but other than dust, I don’t see anything out of place. The motor spins, and the spools turn, but then the spools stop, then the motor, then it just reads ‘error’ on the display. Any thoughts?

I have an old tape that I'm having issues when playing. Both on my Panasonic DMR-ES35V and my GPX/LG 1640 it shows stipes while playing. I tried cleaning the VCR's heads and the cassette's tape with isopropyl alcohol (on ffw/rew passes with fiber cloth gently pressing the tape) and to no result. I also tried using the tracking option that the Panasonic VCR has, but it only shifts the stripes up or down (+/-). Any suggestions on how I could fix this issue?
