Trends that indicate some area of the world getting better over time. E.g. uplifting data about poverty reduction, or lower mortality rates from disease, or reforestation, and so on.

Anything that makes the world better in a steady, deep way.

We have several subreddits for good news, where we can learn about uplifting events and good deeds.

But we want to be informed about areas in which the world is getting better in a broad way, for many people at a time.

Let's collect trends that point to some area in the world getting better. E.g. uplifting statistical data about poverty reduction. Or scientific advances in curing a disease.

Guidelines

You can submit links that belong to one of these three categories:

  • Uplifting statistical data about: Reductions in negative indicators such as poverty, hunger, inequality, or conflict; increases in positive indicators such as life expectancy, gender equality, responsible consumption, and good governance; or improved access to things such as clean water and sanitation, high-quality education and health care, decent work, justice, or affordable clean energy. To be relevant, any conclusion drawn must be based on a good amount of data and and adhere to good statistical practice w.r.t. significance.

  • Scientific and technological advances in: Curing disease or reducing associated mortality rates; improving people's overall health and wellness; reducing or eliminating waste and pollution; mitigating the effects of climate change; and so on. Please no reports of "breakthroughs" or "potential game-changers" (because the normal course of innovation is that most of these end up not making it in the end). Rather, posts on new and uplifting technology getting ready for mainstream usage.

  • Trends indicating increases in social cohesion, including: Cooperation and social integration between people of different ethnic, national and religious backgrounds; reconciliation between groups that have been at odds; representation of groups that have been underrepresented; and so on. Relevant posts in this category include lots of people being cohesive or leading figures making important symbolic gestures.
