Basically was wondering about the culture at the co-ops such as Taos, Laurel etc. Are you expected to be a certain way? Is it very PC, or like cultish in an "in group vs out group" kind of way? Or are things chill and you can do you as long as you're helping out and not being an asshole?
Not accusing any of them of being anything. I genuinly don't know what they are like. I just know that sometimes co-ops can get very engrained in a specific culture over time so just wondering what it's like so that I can make an informed decision.
Hi I am applying for MS in Business Analytics at University of Texas Austin. However, a quick LinkedIn search tells me a lot of students are from tech background. I did my BBA Hons and MBA specializing in Finance from universities outside US. I then worked in Thailand as Data Analyst (mostly working with Power Bi, SQL,Databricks) for last two years. Gave gre recently and got 158 in verbal but only 161 in quants. What is the class profile like? And how can I make the application better?
As the title says, what's an efficient way of getting groceries WITHOUT a car? I've tried taking the bus to the HEB but the shortest route is 35-40 minutes just from west campus to the stop, and I have to limit myself to just what I can carry. Any further out for specialty stores like asian grocery stores or bulk stores becomes unrealistic.
As a result, i've been looking at having groceries delivered, but I don't know whether to just pay every time for an HEB delivery or get a Walmart+ subscription. Outside of eating on/near campus everyday, what kind of things do y'all do for grocery shopping?
Hey all, I'm currently a first-year engineering major thinking about going into more of a business-oriented career after graduation. I took AP Econ in HS and thought it was interesting, I really like math and data science, and I'm decent at interpersonal communication, so I feel like the more math/data-focused side of business would be a good fit for me, especially either marketing, supply chain, or business analytics. If McCombs offered them, I'd definitely do a minor or cert, but the only way to do any of them in depth (that I know of) is fully double majoring.
The problem is that double majoring in business (besides being extremely competitive to get into) would add something like 60 hours onto my degree plan, which isn't necessarily impossible, but it'd prevent me from doing basically anything else with my time. On the other hand, I'd only need to take 30 extra hours for a double major in economics, which I do have space for in my degree plan thanks to APs. The issue is that I don't know if econ would be relevant enough to marketing/supply chain/business analytics to get me a job in one of those fields after graduation.
I'd appreciate any help or suggestions you could provide. Thanks in advance!
i’m an incoming freshman interested in signing a lease at the nine on Rio,, but i’m a bit skeptical after doing a lot of research. not sure if what ive seen is recent but upperclassmen I know personally have told me that’s it’s improved a lot now but I’m honestly still worried.. for those who live there already, would you recommend living there or no?
and are the room floors carpet or wooden? how are the utility(water/electricity) bills??
This includes the building names, ie PCL, DKR, classes and majors, ie MIS, SDS, CS, HDF, any orgs such as AMSE, USIT, colleges like CNS, etc. what are y’all thinking. I was just thinking about how many acronyms there are here lol
Hey all! I recently got admitted to the Spring 2025 PhD in Petroleum Engineering prgram at UT Austin. However, the graduate coordinator emailed that professors are at their discretion to provide funding, but I do have to make a decision to accept or decline if a professor doesn’t offer a GRA(graduate research assistant) position before 15th Nov. Based on this, I have a few questions-
The process is very new to me. Really appreciate any comments and feedback. I am just trying to secure funding for my PhD.
Is Lu or Chang easier for CHI 606? I'm slow when it comes to languages and am concerned about keeping up. Thanks!
I met with some recruiters at EXPO and I passed their initial screening and got a interview in the next week or two. They told me the next step was to wait about a week to hear back in which they’ll fly me out to the job site and I’ll have more interviews after that. I asked where it would be in the Midwest and he said it would be one of 8 or so locations and I won’t know until I get a call back. It’s been 8 days and I’ve been checking my portal. Seems like the job title for my interview went from midwestern entry level manufacturing engineer to full time manufacturing engineer St.Louis today. Any ideas as to if that means I’ll hear back Monday or so and get told they’ll fly me out to St. Louis or am I thinking too positive and it doesn’t really mean anything. Has anyone interviewed with P&G as a senior and have an idea about how this process goes/how long it would be?
Other than my TA and professor, who else can I look for help regarding research?
Edit: I’m not a fan of the library
I don’t wanna wait till Wednesday to go to the star parties the PMA has. Help!
Is someone willing to sell a natural science graduation stole? I have my grad pictures on Monday and the CoOp ran out and wont have more until Wednesday. I would deeply appreciate it someone could sell it to me or tell me where else I can get one.
I’ve been really struggling to make romantic connections here at UT, I think I need this class but I can’t find the unique number can y’all help me out
I am currently a sophomore in COLA who is premed, who is trying to potentially transfer into neuroscience as a sophomore. I don't know if this is even slightly possible, but I want to make it happen. I'm a pre-med in COLA who has taken the general prereqs and is now enrolled into genetics and organic chemistry, so i have those prereqs, but i don't know if it would mess with my degree plan.
Yesterday, my electric scooter was stolen in front of the PCL library between 9 PM to 11 PM. It was chain-locked. Another guy's scooter also got stolen from the same spot around the same time.
Is there anyone else who has faced the same?
PS- I just got the scooter yesterday.
Hey, I’m a pre-med sophomore looking for other pre-med or pre-health freshmen/sophomores to study with. I just met with my advisor and found out the next 2 years will be a minimum of 16 hours of science per semester and I would like to find a group of people to study with and hold me accountable…otherwise I will probably crash out😭😭. I’m also a transfer so I’m pretty much taking the sciences you would take freshman year rn. Definitely a try not to cry challenge: level impossible.
Anyways please hmu if you are down🙏🏾🙏🏾
UT Community,
This past Wednesday, UT President Jay Hartzell informed Ann Stevens, the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, that he would not allow her to continue for a second term:
To add further perspective, at the end of August, Hartzell suddenly fired UT's top academic officer (his provost, whom he had chosen himself) and replaced her with the very inexperienced Dean from the College of Communications.
In her email to CoLA (College of Liberal Arts) department and unit managers, Dean Stevens wrote the following:
Dear Colleagues:
I am writing to let you know that Jay Hartzell informed me yesterday that he will not allow me to be considered for a second term as Dean. The reason he gave was that I did not have a grand enough vision for the college. While I disagree with that assessment, it is clear that he and I have different values and different goals for the college.
I am not yet sure of any details about the timing of appointing an interim dean or of starting a search. I have the option to serve through August 2025, when my term officially expires. I will let you all know as soon as I have more information about plans for the next COLA leader.
With your help, we have made enormous progress in COLA: building academic excellence; improving research support and infrastructure; investing in student funding, research, and career support; and supporting a culture of respect and care for staff, faculty and students. I am attaching the two documents I prepared for my review. They are not relevant for that purpose any longer, but I do hope they will reassure and remind you at this difficult moment of how well the college is doing. You should have no doubt that COLA is in a very good place today.
I want to encourage all of you, as college leaders, to continue to focus on what is in the best interest of yourselves and your units, and to continue to carry out that mission through what will be another challenging transition. I will do everything I can to help with that. This news feels terrible to deliver via email, and I am looking for a time in the very near future to be available for some in-person conversations. I’ll be in touch. Jay will apparently be emailing all COLA staff and faculty later today, but you should feel free to share the information in this note with your staff and faculty colleagues.
Thank you so much for all that you do for the college. It’s an honor to work with all of you.
Ann
If a Dean wishes to continue to serve in their capacity, it is customary for their performance to be reviewed by a committee composed of constituents of their College at the end of their first term. Dean Stevens makes clear that Hartzel is not allowing that review to take place, and he is doing so without any public explanation.
Donors, alumni, and students had better wake up and let their thoughts be known to the UT Development office and directly to Jay Hartzell: president.hartzell@utexas.edu
The other day in class Dr laude was saying we could say things to make fun of him and distract him during a challenge. He gave us examples of things to say to distract him, one of them being “where’s your daughter”. Ever since, I’ve been so curious because he gave no context. Does anyone know what happened to his daughter?
What can you tell me about taking Neu 366L neuroimaging lab with Middendorf? Is it hard? How much time does it take? What is the grading policy? How difficult are the lab reports and how often do you have to submit lab reports? Are there any tests, how many? Fun or difficult class? Thanks
Many of the neuro professors have terrible reviews or none at all. Looking for neuro class and professor recommendations. Any input is appreciated.
Several of the neuroscience professors have no reviews or very few reviews on RMP. I would appreciate any recommendations you can provide for a great class / professor.
I’m curious when juniors start and finish registering for classes. I understand it’s based upon percent of degree completed but I’m not sure where that leaves me in relation to other juniors. I would like you to have an idea of what my chances are of getting my first choice classes. So juniors what are your registration times? Seniors what are your times? Let is know your year and registration time. Thanks!
Has anyone used their research under option 1 of the Health Science Scholars (HSS) program to count for satisfying upper level credits in their major (in my case Neu 379H)? Or is that considered double dipping and not allowed?
Please please please return this plushie. It is mine and has lots of sentimental value to it. If you know someone who took or if you are the one who are took at the cross section near the pcl and jester, please contact me and message me.
Moving back to Austin for school and got accepted to the east wood apartment complex. Can’t tour it before moving so I’m a bit nervous nd curious if any other students are in that apartment complex and can give any reviews
Whoever took the toy tiger stuffed animal please return it to the lost and found! Though it’s sitting up rather than lying down and it’s a little smaller. I implore, I’ll even give you money just give it back. It looks like this and it was seen on the speedway of the 4th intersection w PCL, Jester, and Mccombs.
Just saw Hartzell’s emails, The Tower and Main Building will begin major restorations this summer following Class of 2025’s commencement. Tower and main building will be fully covered by scaffolding and protective tarps until 2027. RIP my graduating class I guess…
