Hi! I recently got accepted into umiami and uci and I'm having trouble deciding which school to attend. I have listed some pros and cons:
UC Irvine vs. University of Miami
Intended Major: Admitted as Computer Science but plan to double major in Business
UC Irvine
Pros:
Cons:
University of Miami
Pros:
1.Renowned for its vibrant social scene
Cons:
My sister, currently pursuing a Computer Science major at Boston University, has been actively seeking opinions on my college decision dilemma. Surprisingly, the overwhelming consensus among those she's consulted leans towards the University of Miami. Initially drawn to UC Irvine, I now find myself torn between these two options. As I weigh the advice received and consider my aspirations, any additional thoughts, opinions, or insights are sincerely appreciated. Thank you!
Hi everyone,
I am coming to miami for an internship this summer. I just wanted to understand what are some possible housing options, my budget is around $1000. My office would be in downtown Miami.
Can anyone please help in what resources and aread I should I look at. Also would really appreciate if there any Whatsapp groups I can be part of for leasing an apartment temporarily.
Thank you!
Hi there! I was admitted for fall 2024 and accepted into the Foote Fellow Honors program. If i attend, I'd be double majoring in marine biology/ecology and history, so I was wondering if anyone in those programs has any insight into them? For ex, how rigorous they are and what kind of opportunities, etc. Thanks!
Hey UMiami fam! Are any of you commuting from Palm Beach to Miami? Curious about your routine, frequency, and whether you'd suggest it. Share your experiences!
I’m a prospective transfer student (from cc) looking to apply as a Spring transfer. I’m on the pre med track and would love to major in neuroscience, but I know it’s pretty selective at UMiami. Are my chances of getting in better as a psych major? Could anyone weigh in on their experiences in this department? Or their overall experience as a pre-med?
Hey everyone!
I wanted to reach out to this community because my team and I are working on something new that could really change the world-an online dating app called Hey! The idea is to focus on deeper, more personal connections through voice. This app will transform the dating world by removing superficial elements of its competitors. You get to talk and connect with someone directly, making decisions about your connection without immediate biases.
We’re at a stage where we're ready to launch our iOS beta on TestFlight and would genuinely appreciate your feedback. Here’s the link for those interested: https://testflight.apple.com/join/LObWR6l2. Whether you’re looking for love, friendship, or just some interesting conversations, your insights on this experience is what we are after.
And for those on Android, don’t worry! We’re also working on an Android beta. Feel free to reply here, and I’ll make sure to get you the signup link as soon as it’s ready.
This project is more than just an app for us; it’s about creating a space that encourages meaningful connections. Your input will be crucial in helping us move closer to that goal.
Thank you so much for considering being a part of this.! Your support could help us bring people closer together in a world that truly needs more connection.
While combing through the fine print of the fin aid site I came across a page that said outside scholarships could reduce the award given. This is disheartening because we were hoping to use some to close the gap. Has anyone had experience with adding outside scholarships to the fin aid package? I.e. rotary, HS Alumni funds? thanks!
I am a Spring Admit and I was wondering if I would be behind in my classes by starting in spring. I am looking at the plan of study for computer engineering and it seems like the classes that I would usually take in the fall I would have to take in the spring so will I be behind in my major?

I got in with Foote Fellows Honors Program so I want to pursue engineering and management. How is UM in those fields?
I also got into Syracuse. Which is better?
I saw on the UMiami page it said, b/c FAFASA has been delayed, the Jenkins Scholarship will come out by April 1st in regular decision release. My FAFSA was just processed two days ago but the regular decision has already come out. Does that mean I should still wait until April 1st to hear about it, or has it already been released?
Hi there, my son was accepted in engineering with a decent merit scholarship and significant grant due to financial need. It doesn’t quite cover the COA but I have some savings and he works we think we can do some out of pocket. However our counselor is telling us to appeal financial aid. When I asked UM financial aid office about this they said there’s not really a path to appeal but if we did we’d end up going back through CSS, looking at 2023 taxes etc. has anyone appealed financial aid and was it worth it? We appealed at other schools and got maybe 2k more, every little bit helps don’t get me wrong. I don’t know if I should press because he does feel like what they gave him was significant
My daughter was accepted to Miami and it’s her top choice currently but I’m getting scared about the housing based on what I’m reading. For current students can you tell me your experience with applying to housing after freshman year? She will be a younger student turning 17 this summer. I definitely want her to be on campus as long as possible for safety as well as I’m worried about cost off campus. Thank you!
I am an incoming freshman who got accepted into the Health Sciences program and i’m deciding between UM or UW-Madison (in-state) I have to pay around 10k more for UM based on my financial situation. I know UM is decent for premed considering the size and resources available, however cost is a big factor but I am willing to pay if it’s worth it.
HELP PLEASE I need to send my LOCI for Umiami today and I'm from southern California but I'm not sure who I send it to. So far I know to send it to whoever wrote the email for my admissions which was the VP undergrad admissions officer. I also see an assistant director on my Umiami portal. I just don't know who to send it to. Thanks!

Hi. I have a question ⁉️ Im newly admitted and I would like to know if you have to buy a food plan in order to get food from the dining room 😄.
Or if is not necessary and I can get food just by walking there and paying with my debit card
Thank you
Hi! I'm a prospective student who may enroll for the upcoming fall, and I was wondering if the school accommodates well for dietary restrictions, which in my case would be vegetarian food?
I’m not big on frats at all and don’t plan on joining one, but I’ve heard from a lot of people that it’s almost a necessity to join one otherwise your social life won’t be successful. Is this true? Are people who don’t join frats/sororities treated differently in the social environment?

Hey guys! Is anyone in the accelerated BSN program. Looking for honest opinions on the program:)
I’ve been deferred then waitlisted :( Umiami is my dream school and I’d really do whatever to get in. Has anyone on this sub been waitlisted then admitted? If so could you please share what you think helped?
Hey guys, I was recently admitted for fall of 2024 and was given 22k in merit for the presidential scholarship. Miami is still gonna be pricey, what are the chances I can get my merit up to like half tuition (28k), and how do I go about this? I’m middle class af and trying to figure out how I’m gonna go to college without going into 6 figs of debt.
I got in to UM for CS with a Game Dev concentration, which is what I was hoping. Is the CS program worth going to at UM? I’d love to hear what anyone thinks of the program in terms of job placement and skills learned. It’s tough because UM gave me the best financial package out of any school I applied to by far.
hi everyone! i recently just got denied from UM, after getting deferred EA. i was completely destroyed upon finding out, and have been wondering if there is absolutely anything i can do to open the possibility of a reconsideration. i believe its partially due to a lower GPA (3.6uw 4.3w), which was mostly due to my dad dying in the middle of sophomore year and me developing a very serious eating disorder (weighted 68 lbs at 5’6) until ~mid junior yr which severely impacted my ability to concentrate etc, as well as financial need for tuition. throughout senior year i have had excellent grades with all IB, AP and honors classes so my predicted GPA is around 3.85uw and 4.65+ w. UM was my ultimate dream school and i would like to make sure that i tried absolutely everything before i have to give up on it. i also have won a few local district scholarships which could help in tuition costs. please let me know any advice or information!
Since I can only attach one image here are all the ducks I collects in the UM library. Whoever planted these ducks is the cutest soul alive. (My girlfriend made me make a shelter for them)
I found about a dozen of these ducks in the stacks tower library. Embarrassingly I went on a hunt to find more… Does anyone have an explanation for this? I went to floors 6,7, and 9. And without fail I found various ducks on random books. It really made my day Lmfao.
admitted for comp eng, is it worth it?
