Questions and resources related to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), for transgender and GNC individuals

RULES

  • Moderators may take action or inaction at their discretion outside of these rules if needed, although we do generally try to stick to them.

  • Be kind to yourself and other users
Hate speech is prohibited. No racism, homophobia, transphobia, and so on for all intrinsic characteristics. Do not personally attack other users. This includes ironic self deprecation, transmedicalism advocacy, calling people's "transness" into question, and similar lines of comments. If you think another user has said something incorrect, reply politely or walk away.

  • Stay on topic
We're a subreddit intended to help people with HRT and adjacent medical issues. Social posting and non-medical transition questions should go to more generic trans subreddits such as /r/MtF, /r/FtM, /r/AskTransgender and so on. For non-HRT related medical issues you should be talking to a doctor.

  • Be clear, be accurate

  • When asking questions, be clear about what the problem you're facing is and provide clarifying information when requested. Post titles should be informative but brief. Ask for help with the root problem rather then what you think the solution might be wherever reasonable (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XY_problem). Confirm answers with multiple people wherever possible, because sometimes people will say dumb stuff and it doesn't get caught in the moment.
  • When answering questions, stick to established science wherever possible and have sources for your statements. If you can stick to peer reviewed published work that doesn't have major critiques then perfect, if this doesn't exist then use community resources which have stood up to scrutiny. Anecdotes are generally not sufficient.
  • Keep discussions in public
Do not DM other users. Do not ask other users to DM you. Report and block people who DM you, especially if they are trying to sell you anything. Keeping discussions in public is the primary tool for avoiding misinformation and scams.

  • Prohibited/restricted topics
Some topics are prohibited, either due to reddit site wide ToS issues, because they are effectively unsolvable, or they have a tendency to generate high quantities of rule breaking posts.
Some topics are restricted, and posts will be removed unless they are of high quality. You might want to poke a mod before posting to check if this is the case.

  • THE PROHIBITED TOPICS LIST:

    • Sourcing for Testosterone (Reddit ToS, https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043513471)
    • Circumventing the law in your location (Reddit ToS)
    • Direct advertisements from storefronts or other sellers (Reddit ToS, drama)
    • Direct transactions between users, including giveaways (Reddit ToS)
    • Asking for medication advice while under 18 (Reddit ToS), see wiki for more information
    • Hiding medication/transition from family (no good answer, drama)

    Restricted topics:

    • Advocacy for non-pharmacutical medication (IE, herbals and phytoestrogens)
    • Discussions around medications only tangentially related to transitioning (Pioglitazone, Semaglutide, and similar)
    • Requests for participants in research will be removed unless prior moderator authorisation is sought.
    • Requests for interview from journalists will be removed without prior moderator authorisation, and in the current environment authorisation is unlikely to be given.

Reviews and recommendations of storefronts or suppliers
Second party reviews and recommendations are allowed in moderation. Excessive or unprompted promotion will lead to post removal. Requests for storefronts or suppliers are also permitted within reason. Storefronts/suppliers may not self-promote. Paid incentives to promote are prohibited.

    Need Assistance with HRTcafe

Hello, I need to buy from one of the stores on the hrtcafe but can't find one that meets my specifications.

    I need a store that:

    • uses a payment method that doesn't involve a bank transfer.

    • doesn't require my phone number or want to call me.

Thanks y'all. Please let me know if this isn't possible.

Does insurance cover bloodwork in the US?

Couldn’t find a straight answer online so I was wondering if any of you could help from experience. Did your insurance cover your hormone bloodwork? Did you need to see a doctor first to establish a reason to your insurance provider?

breasts stopped growing after increasing my dose early in my transition (monotherapy)

hey people, first things first i would like to ask you all to not be too harsh on me... i know what i did wasn't very smart, but at the time i was very lonely in my transition and haven't heard about r/TransDIY. the only person who could give me any sort of advice was Lena. oh, also English isn't my first language. i started my transition on monotherapy in august 2023 (EV 400mg) and i've been injecting 0,17 every 5 days at first for 2 months (possibly 3) but i started upping my dose by 0,01 each time i was injecting, until i gradually built up to 0,25. i'm certain the actual amount i was getting tho was closer to 0,23 because i always have a small bubble in the syringe + a bit of oil tends to leak out of the injection site. Lena said that this dose was fine. i'm currently on 0,2 (but again, with the bubble and leaking i suppose it's closer to 0,18). my breasts started growing after my first injection and have been growing rapidly up until i built up my dose to it's highest and somewhere around there they just stopped growing. i still have buds and they hurt, but they haven't been getting any bigger for soo looooonggg 😩

P.S. im currently not able to go get my levels checked. i know i absolutely have to do ASAP. to make a long story short im stuck in the country i am not a citizen of and i haven't been able to find a place that would run a test like this for me.

    Question

So I picked up some estrogen cream from online without any prescription. My question being, it says one full pump of the cream delivers 1.3 grams of cream roughly, which is 2.3 mg of estrogen. My question being is it a long shot for go this route. Im not into crypto and I cant afford a therapist. I was hoping maybe some of you have tried this or a form of it, and if you had any suggestions thank you.

    combining estradiol hemihydrate + valerate

hi, just wondering if it's safe to take estradiol hemihydrate + estradiol valerate in the same 24hr period - i have a few weeks of valerate pills left. seems like it should be ok from a chemistry perspective (adjusting for dose potency) but just wanted to check. thx! ^-^

    Help

So.. I literally just started my HRT journey to being my self after an entire long year. I’m only about a month in on them and for the first time in my life I feel happy with myself.

Then there’s the election in just 3 days.. And I don’t want to go back to my hopeless life… So. How does one even self medicate ? Where do you get T blockers and Estrogen? I really can’t go back.. Not after finally finding peace.

Interpretering my first Blood Test results

    Hello,

So I had my first blood test done just over a month after starting diyhrt. I just want to double check if they seem right. I take 1.5mg of Progynova every 6 hours, and have done 12.5mg of CPA daily. I actually had the test done a little later after trough due to an issue they had with timing so it was about almost 7 hours from my last dose. My results are with randox and my results are:

    Here

I also appreciate any advice if you have any :)

To any Americans who have ordered from Astrovials, what mailing company do they go through?

I previously relied on Otkph who I knew was with Fedex, so I'd just put the address as a Fedex dropbox location. Am wondering if the same could be done with Astrovials.

    Start on lower dose?

Hi, I want to start DIY HRT soon, but as I am still somewhat (just turned 18yo) young, I was wondering whether I should start on the usual "adult" dose already or should rather start on lower dose as I read in some places that "adolescent" should do that but idk if I still fall under that because its a bit vague and I cant find much info on it.

In any case, thx for reading this and even more thx if you know something and can help me out!

    Self Injecting help

When I prepare my dose I do this: I place the first needle -> I took the medicine -> I pull the plunger back before swapping needles -> I swap needle -> I push the plunger until the mark of my dose -> some drops comes out -> I inject.

I'm curious if this is the correct way to get the exact amount of E. I notice some bit of product remains in the hub/louer lock and in the needle after injecting so I suppose this is a good way to avoid injecting less by filling the new needle with product. But also I have to take more product from the vial and waste it to do this. Is this a good method? Am I injecting more than I think? If the needle is covered by those drops coming out... will the injection be more painful?

    Question about astrovials EEN

I heard that astrovials don't change the appearance much, is this true? because it provides a constant dose of estrogen and this should cause change. Are any of you happy with the changes you've experienced using it?

Stopping CPA after temporary use cause a testosterone rebound in this case?

My total testosterone is 24 ng/dL on 8 mg of Progynova alone. If I were to add CPA temporarily to further suppress it, then suddenly stop taking the CPA, would my testosterone levels spike higher than before because of stopping it, or would they stay as the previous levels?

This is just out of curiosity tho!

I need a reliable and affordbale source to order E2 gel, preferably Divigel 0.1% in central Europe

Basically the title above. I've been on HRT (doctor prescribed) for over a year - recently my practicioner had become more and more unreliable and it's even possible that the local right wing government is coming down on them since they provide gender affirming care. I need a reliable source for affordable E2 gel. I have been taking 2x daily 1mg Divigel, which has worked great for me so far so I'd like to stay on this one. However, the sellers on hrtcafe are super expensive, so I'm looking for other reliable sources.

    Jenapharm estrogen + androcur

I was recommended to take these. The estrogen is injections and the andro is a pill I cut into 4 and take a quarter daily, as the injection (2 ML) weekly. Can someone please confirm if this is good or not as I’m starting my diy soon (1 week at max) and are the brands safe.

A quick brief: I’m a 30 year old in the Middle East and getting access to hrt is hard, these are what I’m able to get and I just want to know if they’re good as “prescribed”. I do not have access to bloodwork as I still am willing to take a leap into this. Is that okay?

    Thanks in advance 🫶💖🫶💖

Both E, T and SHBG has gone up since my last test? Why?

Last blood test says my both my estrogen, testo and SHBG has gone up? Why?

    For reference, last test;

    E 0.9 nmol/L

    T 0.4 nmol/L

    SHBG 92 nmol/L

    Recent test;

    E 1.2 nmol/L

    T 0.7 nmol/L

    SHBG 103 nmol/L

These tests are about 4 months apart. What is happening? Ive been om pretty much the same dose since then, the only thing that has changed is that ive changed to a new vial of EEn from otokonoko. Why is both my E and T going up?

    DIY patches estradiol

I have doubts. I've been with 1 patch for a while, went to two and even three. Right now neatly to 1 year. Is dangerous wear 5 parches? Now I have 5 estramon 100 mcg/24h patches. So it is equivalent to 0.5 mg every 24 hours, right?
